After weeks of speculation, it's official, the Pokemon Go tie-in game will be released on November 16th, 2018.
Judging from the trailer and information out there, the game is a remake of Pokemon Yellow with a few differences. Instead of Pokemon assisting in wild battles, it appears players will have to use the Pokemon Go method of capturing monsters. The game also contains co-op and it's possible to trade Pokemon from your mobile to your Switch.
Finally, this is set to be purely it's own spin-off game. Generation 8 will proceed in 2019.
My basic feeling is that if Nintendo had have read the room better, this would have been the right game to release alongside the Switch launch. While Pokemon Go was beginning to lose it's luster by that point, if it was announced ahead of time, it would have been something for fans to look forward to as opposed to the meager updates we received. I don't really like the idea of setting it in Kanto either. I understand the appeal of nostalgia baiting, but if they were going to tinker with the core mechanics to that degree, it would have been an idea to make a completely different format for the game. Imagine a Pokemon game where instead of eight gyms, team rocket and the elite 4, it was a huge open world with Animal Crossing like features with trainers constantly vying for gyms and timed events. It would have been a huge undertaking, but given the 2 and a half year wait, would have driven more interest.
I'll still pick it up at some point.

The trailer looks dope AF, I finally got a phone earlier in the year, that's compatible enough to play Pokemon Go, so I've been getting into it a lot lately.
I'll probably be picking up the Pikachu version, once the games are released.
