Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. If Uruguay and Egypt tie, Russia is practically in unless they get destroyed and kept scoreless the next two games.

Australia were unlucky I thought. Very organised and you could see their gameplan. Probably shaded the first half and Lloris needed to make a great save to keep it 0-0. Debatable penalty for the first France goal (I felt it was a penalty) and then late deflected goal for the winner. Wasn't impressed with France, need to switch back to the 2 up top they had in qualifying for me as trying to fit in M'bappe didn't work.

In no way, shape or form am I calling Messi overrated, but to not score on the PK was such a buzzkill. Since the US isnt incolced in this, it’s hard to get too invested but I’m here for the star powers and when Messi can’t break a tie with Iceland, it makes me more confident that Ronaldo > Messi.

My ass he did.    Messi has one of the most talented national squads in the world.   As team captain it is HIS job to get the very best out of his teammates.

For Australia play as well as they did against France gives me a lot of hope for the other 2 games. I think they deserved a point, especially after recovering from the penalty. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way.

Going forward Argentina's squad looks great on paper, but at the back they are horrific. They were in serious danger of not making this World Cup and it was a Messi hat-trick that brought them here.

The nonsense that he doesn't deliver internationally is what is starting to wear thin. 4 goals in the last World Cup as Argentina made the final - yeah not delivering. But nothing gets thrown at Ronaldo.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Germany still wins. I can see them winning out and Mexico/Sweden tying or Mexico possibly even be upset by Sweden. I’m still more confident that Germany advances then Mexico. The Sweden/South Korea game should be more telling of how this bracket will go.

I think the Swiss are gonna be satisfied with their draw of Brazil today.
