Penalty kicks to decide a World Cup game has to be the most intense thing there is in sports. Happy that England won. Hopefully England knocks out Sweden. I so badly wanted to watch Switzerland vs England. I have like zero care about Sweden.

If football was all penalty shootouts I'd watch that. Much more exciting than 90 minutes of fucking around and doing some of the worst selling I've ever seen. Seriously, football players need to go to pro-wrestling classes. They get tapped on the shoulder and start grabbing the back of their head like they got hit by a baseball bat. I've seen it at least three times in the very small amount of world cup footage I've watched. Do coaches tell football players to feign injuries whenever they can?

It is embarrassing how terrible they act injuries out. My wife and I get a good laugh at it. We usually shout “he just got shot!” I don’t know how it’s not more penalized and shamed though.

TV stations should air a disclaimer prior to every game, stating that watching the World Cup may be hazardous to your health.

First ever penalty shootout win for England and only our 2nd win in 8 attempts in competition. I was 13 the only other time we won a shootout. God I'm feeling old.

England SHOULD beat Sweden, but I have to say I wasn't impressed with their play against Colombia. They held back too much, Colombia's defence was not that good but held England, the PK was the only difference and you can't rely on that, and they collapsed late to let Colombia tie it. Amazing they advanced, if I'm being honest.

And I'm pretty sure if Croatia wins, Putin will invade them. So we'll see how that goes.

Hell no. I like how Uruguay plays. They are soccer's answer to the 85 Bears or 86 Giants. Relentless defense coupled with a nasty temperament.

My picks for the next games are:

Uruguay def France 1-0
Brazil def Belgium 2-1
England def Sweden 2-1
Croatia def Russia 3-0

That gives us Uruguay/Brazil and England/Croatia. I’m still standing with my Croatia winning it all pick. I went 3-5 in the first 8. They were biased picks. This time it’s for real!

I was just thinking how gross a Russia/Sweden match would be where the winner goes to the World Cup Finals. Sweden is so boring to watch and Russia is not that good. Russia going to the finals wouldn’t be as bad because they’re the home team, but still. I would rather not.

Breaking news is that Cavani might sit against France. Time for the buck tooth bandit to save them.

Beyond Neymar acting like a little baby (although in his defence he does get fouled an awful lot), I think Brazil have been really quite impressive. They're certainly not the flashiest, most entertaining Selecao team but they're very functional and for all the plaudits that Uruguay have been receiving for their defence, Brazil have been just as solid. Casemiro will be a loss but Miranda and Thiago Silva have been imperious so far. In attack I think they really need to start Firmino instead of Jesus who looks quite out of form.

France isn't much better.    Some of the biggest floppers and crybabies left in the tournament.        

It's diving not flopping. They're penalty shootouts not penalty kicks (and if you're just talking about one it's just a penalty) and things happen in the 90th minute, not on it.

If Lloris repeats his performance against Uruguay I like France's chances against Belgium.  He really was the big difference in that game.

Could be the year for the “golden generation of Belgium”. First Germany, then Belgium. It could be them.
