The time is almost upon us where all the video game heavyweights gather and reveal what lies ahead for this rapidly evolving industry. I'm sure for all of you VG&T members you've all got fond memories of E3, whether it was the reveal of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Final Fantasy 7 remake or even the disastrous 2010 Konami press conference.
Here is the timetable for the week.
SATURDAY Electronic Arts - 11AM PT/2PM ET/7PM BST/4AM AET
SUNDAY Microsoft - 1PM PT/4PM ET/9PM BST/6AM AET Bethesda - 6:30PM PT/9:30PM ET/2:30AM BST/11:30AM AET Digital Devolver - 8PM PT/11PM ET/4AM BST/1PM AET
MONDAY Square Enix - 10AM PT/1PM ET/6PM BST/3AM AET Ubisoft - 1PM PT/4PM ET/9PM BST/6AM AET PC Gaming Show - 3PM PT/6PM ET/11PM BST/8AM AET Sony - 6PM PT/9PM ET/2AM BST/11AM AET
TUESDAY Nintendo - 9AM PT/12PM ET/5PM BST/2AM AET
Which press conference are you guys looking forward to? What's the one game announcement you'd want to hear?

The first of the big three press events takes place today.
Hopefully Microsoft has a better outing, as they have been obliterated these last two years by Sony and Nintendo.

The Xbox show was good. But will it stack up to the showings by Sony and Nintendo?
Gotta say, I'm looking forward to this new, darker Tomb Raider.

It was refreshing to see the Tales of Vesperia port included in the Microsoft E3 Conference. For me, it's one of the main reasons I ended up buying another 360, simply so I could catch up on what I missed out on. The original game clearly had segments that were cut out of it and while I've gone back and played through the PS3 version, to play through that in English is something I can't wait to do. Now all I need to know is how the game plays on the Switch to see which system I'll pick it up for.
Cyberpunk 2077 & Devil May Cry 5 look good in theory, I'd like to see some gameplay and impressions before getting too hyped. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice was probably the game that impressed me the most. From Software's new release and the gameplay looked pretty smooth. Kingdom Hearts 3 is also looking really strong and I can't wait to get my hands on it sometime next year. I know January is the official release date, but I'm already anticipating a March release.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks amazing, though I think I’m the only person that was hoping for a new Tenchu rather than Bloodborne 2. Though looking at the grappling hook shot and mechanics It basically looks like Dark Souls meets Tenchu.

Sony press conference is underway.
Press conference is being held inside a tent with a church motif. Shawn Layden reminds the audience that this year they'll be focusing on titles that have already been announced.
Last of Us 2 is the first game of the press conference.

The Last of Us 2 introduced us to an older Elle and a few of her friends at a dance. It then panned to some gameplay of Elle taking on a group of renegades that showed off a couple new moves and animations that affect the speed of gameplay.
It appears the Sony press conference is going to take place at multiple studios. The church setting was seemingly inspired by the dance hall in the Last of Us 2 trailer.

What a terrible idea for a press conference. Having people move from one spot to the next to have the presser continue elsewhere? Fuck that. Sounds alright for those there, terrible for those watching. Literally learned nothing from PSX.

CyberPunk looks amazing, the biggest takeaway of E3 so far has got to be how they've messed up Fallout 76 by making it online only.

Past 10 minutes has been nothing but filler with the occasional recap from earlier in the week.
Ghost of Tsushima was next and kind of had Shadow of the Colossus vibes at the beginning. Then it just sort of looked like a modern hack n slash, I'll have to check the trailer again.
I missed most of the Control trailer.
Now we're seeing a trailer for Resident Evil 2. It appears there's a lot more cut-scenes than the original and looked pretty good.

Kingdom Hearts 3 showed off a Pirates of the Carribean 3 world where you can control the ship and engage in open water sea battles and all sorts of shenanigans. There was also more plot stuff shown involving Kairi, Riku, Axel etc.

Death Stranding trailer gave us some more plot information, but we've yet to see much gameplay.
Nioh 2 was announced and it appears you can transform into yokai in the sequel. No 2019 reveal date, so it could take awhile.

Nintendo's press conference was fairly underwhelming. They focused primarily on Smash Bros. Ultimate which is basically just a port of Smash 4. The gimmick is that all the DLC and past characters are included, with the Inkling and Ridley also joining the cast. It seems like the game made a bunch of small tweaks which should make for more strategy, but otherwise this feels like a game made for those who skipped out on the Wii U.
The biggest highlight for me was probably the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC. It's going to focus on the events that took place 500 years prior which were touched on, but certainly deserved to be fleshed out further. It sounds like it's going to be a decent trek as well since retailers will be selling it as a stand-alone game.
Damon X Machina looks promising, will be keen to see more details. Super Mario Party will come down to whether it'll be more competitive or if it'll just be an excuse to play a bunch of mini-games. Judging by the trailer, it appears to be more of the latter. It's a shame Nintendo didn't take a page out of their latest Mario Tennis game.

It appears Nintendo will announce two more Smash characters at a later stage.
What was disappointing was that we didn't hear anything more about Metroid Prime and the only other game they covered at a decent length was Pokemon Let's Go. Even then it was to sell the Pokeball accessory which will include Mew.

I watched the Nintendo Treehouse, and they said that the new Smash Bros. is not a port, and that it is a new game.

Unless they announce some new modes, it's a port with a few tweaks and additions.
I did forget to mention Fire Emblem which looks like a worthwhile entry in the series.

With SSB I guess that means literally everything WiiU has been ported over?

Nearly everything.
Mario Maker 2 surely can't be too far away. I'm sure we'll see a 3D World at some point as well.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see the Wonderful 101, Tokyo Mirage Sessions and possibly Xenoblade Chronicles X ported over at some point.

That's not how game development, or you know, software development in general works, the mechanical differences are plenty enough to consider it all being done in a new engine. Porting over assets from older games? sure (and even then, many of them have received makeovers so to consider it a copy paste job would be rude to the efforts taken), but there is enough to see this is not necessarily a port. Just like Splatoon 2 was not a port either.

Port or not, I'm all in on SSB: Ultimate, love the franchises and it'll make a great party game. Speaking of party... I'm also down for more Mario Party as well, for the same exact reason.
Now if only we could get a new Mario Superstar Baseball, as I would be all over that
