For the WWF, my early idea includes...
WWF Title: Shawn Michaels (c) vs. Diesel -- IYH: Good Friends, Better Enemies
Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin -- Survivor Series '96
Boiler Room Brawl: The Undertaker (w/ Paul Bearer) vs. Mankind -- SummerSlam '96
IC Title: Goldust (c) (w/ Marlena) vs. Ahmed Johnson -- KOTR '96
Cry Baby Match: Razor Ramon vs. The 1-2-3 Kid -- IYH: Rage in the Cage
Marc Mero (w/ Sable) vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley... from where?
Gotta get Vader on the card... Didn't he have a powerbomb battle with Sid?
And Owen and Bulldog!

Baker's 1996 WWF SuperCard MashUp
1. Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith vs. Smokin' Gunns (In Your House: Mind Games 9/22- Tag Title Match)Neither Owen or Davey had a great singles match not involving Shawn Michaels in 1996. They teamed on and off pretty much all year and this was their big win. It also marked the beginning of the end for the Gunns. This was a solid outing made better by a hot, pro-Owen & Bulldog Philly crowd. 2. Ahmed Johnson vs. 1-2-3 Kid (Superstars 2/17)I had to get Ahmed on the card and Kid made him look like a million bucks here. Come for the match. Stay for the bonus appearance by man "Double J" Jeff Jarrett. 3. Sycho Sid vs. Faarooq (Raw 9/16- IC Title Tournament Semi Final)The ultimate "get everybody on the show" match. 4. Vader vs. Savio Vega (Raw 1/22)
Vader's TV debut and first singles match in the company sees him decimate game competitor Savio Vega and destroy Commissioner Gorilla Monsoon in a memorable post-match angle. It's safe to say Vader's WWF career peaked right here. It was all downhill after this. Sad. 5. Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Marc Mero (Raw 10/21- IC Title Match)Chose this over the myriad of HHH/Mero matches due to its importance as Helmsley's first title win and for being the (Mr.) Perfect swerve. 6. Jerry Lawler vs. Jake "The Snake" Roberts (Summerslam 8/18)
Fun sports entertainment with Lawler in prime heel form. 7. Goldust vs. Razor Ramon (Royal Rumble 1/21)
My man Goldust wins the belt with a little help from The Kid. 8. Undertaker vs. Diesel (Wrestlemania 3/31)
I was all in on this fun hossfest with ultra heel Diesel taking "The Deadman" to the limit before becoming another name added to The Streak. 9. Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (Survivor Series 11/17)
Bret's return from an 8 month layoff against red hot heel Austin felt huge in real time. The match of Austin's career to this point and the 1a WWF Match of the Year. 10. Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind (In Your House: Mind Games 9/22)
The 1b WWF Match of the Year and the best in a long line of killer 1996 Shawn Michaels matches. Special Superstars Pre Show
-This show is so big it gets its own one hour pre-show featuring these standout matches from lesser stars in between Pettingill & Dok hyping the PPV card. 1. Salvatore Sincere vs. Aldo Montoya (Superstars 9/1)2. Skip vs. Rad Radford (Superstars 1/6)3. Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw vs. Henry O. Godwinn (Superstars 6/1)4. Flash Funk vs. Leif Cassidy (In Your House: It's Time 12/15)These were just matches I dug. And Skip/Radford features the debut of Zip which I guess is kinda sorta important-ish....not really Too bad I couldn't find a PIG vs. Marty match just to get those guys on the show. But I do draw the line at including Dumpster/TL Hopper. The two biggest names I couldn't find room for are Yokozuna & Ultimate Warrior. Others who missed the cut include Hakushi, Barry Horowitz, Mr. Bob Backlund, Furnas & LaFon, Fake Razor & Fake Diesel/Isaac Yankem (I was *this close* to going w/ Fakes vs. Owen & Bulldog but settled on the Gunns instead for a variety of reasons), Crush, Bob Holly, Fatu/Sultan, Jesse Jammes, The Stalker, Rocky Maivia, Mark Henry, Roddy Piper, Alex Porteau, Freddie Joe Floyd & The Goon
EDIT: Just saw 🤯 suggest Razor/Kid and Goldust/Ahmed. That's probably better than what I did. But screw it. I spent an hour on this. Not changing it around now. Plus my way has a Double J cameo and his does not. Double J > No Double J.

Plus my way has a Double J cameo and his does not. Double J > No Double J. So fucking good! This has me longing for Baker-brand fan fic! I love the inclusion of the pre-show and some of the off-the-beaten path match selections. In thinking more about it, I like the theme of your SuperCard MashUp in that it seems to more consistently put over/feature the new class (plus 'Taker) who's taking over from the old New Gen guys... whereas mine had more of a Kliq circle jerk vibe to it. Also, I'm on board with you in liking 'Taker/Diesel and HBK/Mankind over HBK/Diesel and the Boiler Room Brawl (or any other 'Taker/Mankind match from '96).

1995 WWF proved much harder than I was anticipating so I took a break to try 1993 WWF. More surprising difficulty ensued. So I put that on hold to try my hand at 1996 WCW. This one was much easier. Baker's 1996 WCW SuperCard MashUp 1. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Psicosis (Bash At The Beach 7/7)
Deciding which combination of Rey/Dean/Ultimo matches to include was the most difficult thing about this particular project. After flip flopping several times I decided to go with my head over my heart. Sorry, Dean/Disco 2. Eddy Guerrero vs. Diamond Dallas Page (Starrcade 12/29- US Championship Match)Wanted to get both guys on the card. Our old friend Big Evil rated this as their best match so it gets the nod. Sorry, Barbarian. 3. Dean Malenko vs. Ultimo Dragon (Starrcade 12/29- Cruiserweight Championship Match)The Man of a Thousand Holds vs. The Man of a Thousand Belts. Yes, please. 4. Chris Benoit vs. Kevin Sullivan (Great American Bash 6/16- Falls Count Anywhere)My WCW Match of the Year. Another example of ECW style invading the mainstream. Great post-match too.
5. Steiners vs. Road Warriors (Nitro 3/11)
I originally had Steiners vs. Fire & Ice but let's face it, if the objective is to draw money it's Road Warriors > Fire & Ice all the way. Of course this should have been built for at least a month instead of running this legit dream match with zero build on the Steiners return night to WCW after an absence of over 3 years. But, hey, that's WCW for ya. 6. Sting vs. Lord Steven Regal (Great American Bash 6/16)Probably my favorite WCW Regal match. This marked the closest he ever came to being a legit WCW main event player. Also maybe Sting's best match of the year, although his clash with The Giant would have something to say about that. 7. Outsiders vs. Harlem Heat (Halloween Havoc 10/27- Tag Title Match)Both teams needed to be on the card. 8. Lex Luger vs. The Giant (Starrcade 12/29)Gets the nod over their (also good) earlier match due to the hot crowd. 9. Ric Flair & Arn Anderson vs. Kevin Greene & Steve "MONGO" McMichael (Great American Bash 6/16)Shut up. This ruled. 10. "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage (Halloween Havoc 10/27- WCW Championship Match)It was either this or Hogan/Piper and I imagine this sucked less. Plus you still get your Piper appearance in the post-match. *This one was easy. Only difficulties were deciding which Rey/Dean/Ultimo matches to include and finding room for DDP. I swapped Eddie/Barbarian for Eddie/DDP to get Page on the card and flip flopped multiple times on whether to include the people's choice of Rey/Psicosis or my personal choice of Disco/Dean. I suppose you could replace Steiners vs. Fire & Ice with Steiners/Road Warriors if you were so inclined but I'm happy with the way it is. Special Pre-Show WCW Saturday Night
1. Faces of Fear vs. High Voltage (Nitro 6/3) 2. Alex Wright vs. Disco Inferno (Nitro 1/22) 3. Konnan vs. Juventud Guerrera (Fall Brawl 9/25) 4. John Tenta vs. Big Bubba (Bash At The Beach 7/7- CARSON CITY SILVER DOLLAR MATCH~!) 5. Scott Norton vs. Ice Train (Fall Brawl 9/15) 6. Nasty Boys vs. Public Enemy (SuperBrawl 2/11) 7. Syxx vs. Chris Jericho (Halloween Havoc 10/27)
*FoF vs. High Voltage is a killer squash. Disco/Wright is a "get everybody on the card" specialty. Konnan/Juvy (which I've never seen) was rated highly by Big Evil. Tenta/Bubba was Tenta's Revenge in a pretty fun feud even if both guys did kind of suck at the time. PE/Nastys was a fairly popular never ending feud that I felt needed to be represented and since Big Evil rated SuperBrawl the highest of their 36 matches I gave that one the nod. Jericho/Syxx was a late edit to replace Jericho/Enos since Syxx is far more important than Mean Mike to 1996 WCW. Norton vs. Train is the blowoff to the tragic Fire & Ice split.
RIP Fire & Ice 1996-1996 *Two biggest omissions are Jarrett & Bagwell. I was hoping they had a match together so I could include them. Sadly they did not.

ECW*Good thing I was off today. Been at this all day 1. Stevie Richards vs. David Morton Tyler Jericho (November To Remember 11/16)BWO! 2. Taz vs. Joel Hartgood (Cyberslam 2/17)Epic Taz squash + Trash talk + Squashing more jobbers=***** 3. Buh Buh Ray Dudley vs. D-Von Dudley (November To Remember 11/16)
A miracle match as stupid Buh Buh puts away his evil half-brother with an awesome one man 3D. OH MY GOD! 4. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera (Big Ass Extreme Bash 3/9)
Great cruiserweight action taken to the XTREME~! 5. Gangstas vs. Eliminators (Natural Born Killaz 8/24- Tag Team Championship Match) The biggest match in the biggest ECW tag feud of 1996.
6. Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee (6/22- Hardcore Heaven) Dreamer wins the battle but loses the war when Brian Lee chokeslams him from a high place through half a dozen tables.
7. Cactus Jack vs. Mikey Whipwreck (Big Ass Extreme Bash 3/9)Jack's last ECW match is a doozy capped off by a fabulous post-match scene. 8. Shane Douglas vs. Pitbull #2 vs. 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Chris Jericho (Heatwave 7/13- 4 Way for the TV Title)This ECW Match of the Year offers a little something for everyone. 9. Sandman vs. Raven (November To Remember 11/16- ECW Championship Match)Any of the half-dozen Sandman/Raven would have worked. They all kind of blend together for me. Even though Sandman won in the Year of Raven I picked this one because Big Evil rated it the highest 10. Sabu vs. Rob Van Dam (The Doctor Is In 8/3- Stretcher Match)The culmination of yet another hot feud. This one happened to put RVD on the map. *Killer show right there.

WCW
Ultimo Dragon vs. Rey Misterio Jr. (WW3) Another all time great opener. It's all about preference, and of all the great Cruiserweight matches of 1996, with the various combinations, this is my favorite. That finish is just too goddamned great.
The Nasty Boys vs. The Public Enemy (COTC #34) By 1996 standards, this was pretty universally considered a 4 Star match.
Lord Steven Regal vs. Fit Finlay (Uncensored) This reminded me of bum fights, but people seem to really love this for some reason, and I give the people what they want.
Dean Malenko vs Jushin "Thunder" Liger (Nitro: May 5/6/96) Deano Machino's three best matches were against Rey, Dragon and Benoit, who I have doing other stuff, so this gets the nod. Good TV match in its day. Two legendary names now.
Konnan vs. Juventud Guerrera (Fall Brawl) Fall Brawl low key had one of WCW's stronger midcard/undercards. This was Konnan when he still gave a shit, and Juvy trying to claw his way out of the shadow of the other more popular masked men at the time time. Nothing special, just quality work.
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Eddie Guerrero (Starrcade) Good match.
Chris Benoit vs. Kevin Sullivan (Great American Bash) Benoit was involved in basically every undercard workers best match in 1996, but I could only pick this one.
Syxx vs Chris Jericho (Halloween Havoc) Jericho's best match of the year (in WCW) was against Benoit, but this was probably his second.
Steiners vs. Harlem Heat (Hog Wild) The top two WCW tag teams have far from a classic, but they're still the top two tag teams.
Ric Flair vs. The Giant (Nitro May 3/25/96) Such a great finish.
Sting, Randy Savage and Lex Luger vs. The Outsiders (and Hulk Hogan) What's the first thing you think of when it comes to WCW in 1996? I'm not going to overcomplicate things.

Booker T vs Yuji Nagata (Saturday Night: 3/28/96)
MachoMark had this had 4 Stars. Better than anything Harlem Heat did, so I'm including it. This didn't seem right. I had no recollection of Nagata in 1996 WCW so I looked it up. The date is wrong. Match took place 3/28/98. While I'm here I'm about to go edit Mikey/Candido into my ECW show since I already broke my 10 match rule twice and replace Jericho/Enos with the Jericho/Syxx match Kilgore reminded me of since Syxx is approximately 6000 times more important than Mike Enos to 1996 WCW.

WWF vs. WCW: The Great War July 19 & 20, 1996
WWF & WCW came together in 1993 to try turning the slumping wrestling business around with a weekend of super shows. A few years later business is on the upswing but this time it's personal. We're almost a year into the Monday Night Wars. Wrestlers are jumping from promotion to promotion at a pace not seen in over a decade. More fans than ever have started taking sides. A new phenomenon called the NWO is sweeping wrestling. Just whose side are they on? With all three renegades in attendance we may very well find out tonight!
I picked these oddly specific dates for a few reasons- The NWO had begun in earnest. Sid had just returned to WWF. Ahmed was healthy for a few more days. And while it didn't matter in the end, Fire and Ice were still a thing. Here WWF still had a fighting chance if we consider the NWO a neutral party. Yet in a few months time it becomes a WCW slaughter with or without NWO involvement. Their roster just gets too stacked while WWF's gets really, really weak.
In a first, viewers get to choose what commentary they want when they call their local provider to order the show. WWF commentary is provided by Lawler, Ross & Perfect (night one)/Lawler (night two). While Bischoff, Schiavone and Zbyszko (night one)/Heenan (night two) handle WCW duties. Fans who express no preference will receive alternating commentary.
Enough nonsense. Let's get to the matches!
Midcard Mania 7/19/96 (and I really mean it this time! The 1993 "midcard" show was actually pretty stacked. This one is more of a true midcard show)
1. New Rockers vs. Public Enemy Winner: Public Enemy- You guys know I love my music battles. You also know I love my culture clashes. Well, here we get both! WWF: 0 WCW: 1
2. Savio Vega vs. Konnan Winner: Konnan prevails in the battle of Latin American superstars. WWF: 0 WCW: 2
3. Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Marcus Alexander Bagwell w/ Scotty Riggs Winner: HHH bests Bagwell in the battle of one time future stars who have fallen on hard times. WWF: 1 WCW: 2
4. Skip w/ Zip vs. WCW Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. Winner: Rey's state of the art flying is too much for Skip's 1992 workrate style. Some other Luchador, let's say Psicosis, shows up to counter Zip. WWF: 1 WCW: 3
5. Sid vs. Scott Norton w/ Ice Train Winner: Sid takes this hoss fight over big Flash Norton. Ice Train's interference backfired at some point leading to post-match friction with his partner. WWF: 2 WCW: 3
6. Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Kevin Sullivan w/ Jimmy Hart Winner: Jake shows that reformed evil is superior to true evil when he plants Sullivan with a DDT to triumph in this battle of the oldies. WWF: 3 WCW: 3
7. Marc Mero w/ Sable vs. Dean Malenko Winner: Dean's state of the art moves are just too much for Mero's 1992 workrate style. Hmm....that sounds familiar. WWF: 3 WCW: 4
8. Henry O. Godwinn w/ Phineas I. Godwinn vs. Lord Steven Regal w/ Earl Robert Eaton Winner: His Lordship bests the Arkansas hog farmer in an epic culture clash but gets slopped afterward. ***** WWF: 3 WCW: 5
*Jeff Jarrett is shown in the crowd carrying a "PAY ME" sign. He claims to be a free agent when the WCW crew interviews him. The WWF crew badmouthed him the entire time. Something about "not drawing dimes." I didn't really understand it.
9. Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Arn Anderson w/ Steve "MONGO" McMichael Winner: Arn defeats the King in an awesome battle of veteran cheaters with a little bit of help from Mongo down the stretch. WWF: 3 WCW: 6
10. Goldust w/ Marlena vs. Eddie Guerrero Winner: Goldust prevails after using every dirty cheat and mind game in the book. WWF: 4 WCW: 6
*It's a party in Atlanta after Night One with WCW out to a 6-4 lead. Can they hold off WWF? Will anymore "free agents" show up? Will the NWO make their true intentions known? Find out tomorrow night. To whet your appetite, just take a look at this STACKED card.
1. Smoking Gunns w/ Sunny vs. Harlem Heat w/ Sister Sherri- WWF Tag Champions vs. WCW Tag Champions 2. Mankind vs. Chris Benoit 3. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. Diamond Dallas Page- King of the Ring vs. Lord of the Ring 4. Owen Hart & British Bulldog w/ Jim Cornette vs. Steiner Brothers 5. Ahmed Johnson vs. Lex Luger- WWF Intercontinental Champion vs. WCW TV Champion 6. Vader w/ Jim Cornette vs. Randy "Macho Man" Savage 7. Bret Hart vs. WCW United States Champion Ric Flair 8. Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Sting 9. Shawn Michaels vs. The Giant- WWF Champion vs. WCW Champion *Plus the NWO has promised to be in attendance. Brian Pillman will make an appearance and rumors are flying that the 1-2-3 Kid has bought a ticket.

WWF vs. WCW Supershow Night Two 7/20/96
Live from the Baltimore Arena *Not JUST because I'm biased (although I totally am) but because Baltimore had always been a strong town for both promotions. We'll say night one was in....Landover, MD (Washington DC suburb). Philly would be a slightly better choice but then you run the risk of ECW fans hijacking the show. So we're playing it safe. Free For All: Last Minute Everybody Gets A Payday 20 Man Battle RoyalWWF: Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, Duke "The Dumpster" Droese, Bob Holly, Aldo Montoya, Barry Horowitz, Salvatore Sincere, Freddie Joe Floyd, TL Hopper, Alex "The Pug" Porteau, The GoonWCW: Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Meng, John Tenta, Big Bubba, Brian Knobbs, Jerry Saggs, Hugh Morrus, Barbarian, Alex Wright, Disco InfernoWinner: Hacksaw Jim Duggan last eliminating Meng in a match dominated by Team WCW.WWF: 4 WCW: 71. Smoking Gunns w/ Sunny vs. Harlem Heat w/ Sister Sherri- WWF Tag Team Champions vs. WCW Tag Team Champions
Harlem Heat prevail in a battle of the top tag teams in their respective promotions over the past 18 months. Highlights include a Sunny vs. Sherri catfight.WWF: 4 WCW: 8 2. Mankind vs. Chris Benoit- Ultimate Style Clash
Mankind wins a wild war of a brawl in what many consider to be the best match of the entire weekend.WWF: 5 WCW: 83. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. "Diamond" Dallas Page- King of the Ring vs. Lord of the Ring
Austin scores the win via Stunner in this battle of hot up and coming heels with similar finishers.WWF: 6 WCW 8*Brian Pillman shows up after the match to congratulate Austin. Austin is like "whatever." "The Loose Cannon" stops by the WCW broadcast booth on his way out. He throws a wad of $100's at Bischoff's face. "Thanks for making me a rich man.....ya mark!" Heenan gets bleeped. Pillman leaves.4. Owen Hart & British Bulldog w/ Jim Cornette vs. Steiner Brothers
Steiners prevail in an action packed 15 minute match when Scotty pins Owen following the Steiner Screwdriver.WWF: 6 WCW: 9"Trillionaire" Ted Dibiase is shown taking notes in the crowed.5. Ahmed Johnson vs. Lex Luger- WWF Intercontinental Champion vs. WCW Television Champion
Ahmed wins the battle of powerhouses when Luger gets rammed into the very turnbuckle he had exposed earlier leaving him easy prey to Ahmed's patented Pearl River Plunge.WWF: 7 WCW: 96. Vader w/ Jim Cornette vs. Randy "Macho Man" Savage
Vader survives everything Savage can throw at him before winning with a ring-rattling powerbomb followed by a Vader Bomb.WWF: 8 WCW: 9*1-2-3 Kid is shown in the crowd. He takes off his WWF shirt to reveal an NWO shirt.7. Bret Hart vs. WCW US Champion Ric Flair
*One of the big stories going into this show was Vince and company begging Bret to come out of his self-imposed hiatus for one more match. In the end Bret agreed to do it for his fans. It has been strongly hinted that this may very well be Bret's last match representing WWF.And Bret goes out with a whimper when both men are counted out while brawling on the floor after 20 minutes dominated by leg work and submission attempts.WWF: 8 WCW: 9 (1 Draw)*I originally had Bret losing here. GASP! I didn't want to do it. For starters, it was easily the most unrealistic thing on a show full of unrealistic things. No way Bret would come back for one more match only to lose to a guy he didn't respect. But I kind of had to do it for the numbers. And that's why I came up with that undercard Battle Royal at the last minute. At least this way Bret can save face a little with a draw.8. Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Sting
*The NWO of Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall finally arrive to an enormous buzz, sauntering through the crowd to their front row seats as Sting is about to apply the Scorpion Death Lock on 'Taker. This momentary distraction allows Taker time to recover. A short time later he drills Sting with the Tombstone for the 1-2-3.Winner: Undertaker
WWF: 9 WCW 9 (1 Draw)*The NWO's arrival has generated the biggest stir of the weekend. A dozen WCW wrestlers show up to confront Hogan's gang. "We're paying customers, brother."- The Hulkster. This makes them immune to attack. But the WCW wrestlers take up ringside positions. Now a dozen WWF superstars show up to counteract the WCW contingent, operating on the fear that the WCW wrestlers might interfere in the big main event, which has now become an impromptu Lumberjack Match.9. Shawn Michaels vs. The Giant- WWF Champion vs. WCW Champion *The WWF wrestlers occupy two sides of the ring while the WCW contingent occupies the other two sides. The NWO taunts both groups throughout....but mostly Team WCW.At the 12 minute mark Shawn superkicks Giant while in mid Chokeslam. (I've never seen this happen, so I'm not sure it's physically possible, but it's a fantasy card, dammit! So we're running with it.) Both men are down. And now the inevitable happens. The WWF & WCW factions start brawling at ringside. Both locker rooms empty. It's pure pandemonium. And in this pandemonium the NWO hops the barricade to lay waste to both sides (but mostly Team WCW). They eventually make their way into the ring to assault The Giant (but not Michaels). The referees (for this match had two refs- Earl Hebner & Nick Patrick) have no choice but to throw it out. The biggest show of all time, WWF vs. WCW, ends with a 3rd faction- The NWO (and Michaels, weirdly)- standing tall in the ring. FINAL SCORE- WWF: 9 WCW: 9 (2 Draws)
*I may still play around some with 94 & 95. Neither one is coming easy and neither one honestly interests me all that much after the greatness of my 93 and (especially) 96 cards. I actually did come up with some nearly postable 1998 & 1999 WWF vs. ECW SuperCards though. ECW obviously can't match WWF's depth but they can almost go toe to toe with WWF on a 9-10 match card. They're really just missing one more big star. So I may keep poking away it. Depth-wise 97-99 WCW absolutely smokes WWF. So I'm not even going to bother attempting a Supershow Weekend because the only way to realistically prevent a slaughter is for me to lapse back into uber WWF fanboy mode. But one night Supercards for those years may be doable. I'll work at it.

Was thinking about this between yesterday and today, and feel like Baker-man pretty much nailed it, but wanted to commit mine to "paper". Tried to use only PPV matches and pull only one match per PPV. Baker-man was right in that Owen & Bulldog pose the biggest challenge, especially under these self-imposed constraints. Anyway... I'd gladly endure the rest of this card for the 1-2 knockout combo of Bret/Austin & Shawn/Mankind. ///// 1. Marc Mero (w/ Sable) vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley - In Your House: Beware of Dog 2.
