Dude, I don’t get that shit either.
Maybe this is good news for Aaron Jones though. However, this might be the right situation for him. He didn’t have much to work with in Tennessee with those who’s who at WRs including Corey’s Arabia who is average at best. I just think they need to utilize Aaron Jones and this could be his career year coming up. The Packers have some hurdles to climb with Chicago and Minnesota in that division.

I'm assuming they weren't a fan of McDaniels in the interview which is fine , of the names in serious consideration for the job LaFleur ended up being my second choice behind McDaniels and at least he's not Jim Caldwell. @admin hit the nail on the head with his resume` of Ryan's MVP season and being key in the rebuilding of the Rams offense. It's actually eerily similar to the McCarthy hire back in the day as he was a well respected offensive mind and I think SF was like 28th in the league in offense when we hired him from being their OC. LaFleur was a respected name and Tennessee's offense struggled but it's not like he had a ton to work with either and Mariota might never even be that good. I am optimistic that we are moving in the right track going forward , we need to build the offensive line up but Aaron Jones has the potential to be a stud and Rodgers could have a field day in a more open offense. It all depends on what we can do upfront. I'm curious now to what happens at the DC spot , but I do love the potential and pieces this team has to offer. If the chips fall right and we have a good draft than we are right back in SB contention.

Looks like Pettine is staying in house , I don't mind that either - I thought the did a pretty good job considering what he had to work with and the injuries on every single level. Give him some pass rushers , a healthy King to pair with Alexander and I think he can make the defense very respectable.
I can't wait for 2019. I'm not used to change as a Packers fan and this is going to be a huge , refreshing change.

UT any thoughts to the theory that they just couldn't find another Mike to continue the HC dynasty of Holmgren, Sherman and McCarthy and instead bowed to the NFC North trend of hiring Matt's like Nagy and Patricia?

I think they’ve had enough Mikes. Otherwise they would have just promoted Pettine to stick with tradition. Long live the Matt’s!

Back to a more serious note - a stat for the "this hire makes sense file":
We've talked about how Rodgers smashed the record for throwaways last season because he didn't have any receivers open, and how whenever anything went right for the Packers it was largely because he pulled off some voodoo shit rather than good scheming or playcalling - so this could be exactly what they need.

That's such a perfect stat to reflect why LaFleur was so highly regarded , especially with the Packers who's receivers aside from Davante just couldn't consistently beat coverage. Not a shocker to see McDaniels second on that list either.

With Kliff Kingsbury going to the Cardinals as head coach to try and salvage Josh Rosen, I am in for either Todd Monken or Matt Rhule(Baylor HC) for the Jets. Gase I would be alright with, dont want McCarthy or Caldwell. Kris Richard is such an enigma and I really want a shot caller mainly for the Jets.

This idea where Rodgers gets all the credit when the Packers win and NONE of the blame when they lose needs to stop.

With that said, this is not an either/or argument. Yes, you can say that Rodgers should have taken the easy option on certain plays, but also it is very obvious that he was holding the ball waiting for his receivers to try and get open, and the xCOMP% bears that out. LaFleur's history with Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay who are two of the best at scheming receivers to get wide open, plus his record this season in Tennessee (even with a pretty limited group of receivers) means that the Packers are likely to see plenty more easy completions rather than the glut of contested passes that their offence became under McCarthy.

Seeing Toddy take down and destroy 4-3 Stallworth like Lavontae David and Gerald Mccoy will be fun to watch. He will try and implement his 3-4 defense and his inability to raise players to play above their means. He's going to bring the human penalty machine, Buster Skrine to the mix and have one 12 men on the field a game. Thank God he's out of NY, him and his clueless look whenever down big.

The WR core is not good there. ATL made some moves as they’re in desperation, hot seat mode bringing back former coordinators. The Saints are the Saints, but if they win the Super Bowl, this could be the end of Drew Brees. I like the Buccaneers as my super early sleeper of next season just by those thoughts alone. I really think Jameis Winston and Mike Evans are going to have career years, too.

I really think Jameis Winston and Mike Evans are going to have career years, too. Their defense is lousy though and if they implement a 3-4 on the run, just curious how that goes. Bowles needs a pass rusher to see his team rise which he never got in Arizona besides maybe Calais Campbell and with the Jets admittedly hence why he throws blitzes time after time. Sadly where his defenses failed was his corners were absolutely atrocious after 2015. Both Cromartie and Revis checked out in 2016, he relied on Claiborne one too many years, Skrine even in the slot was atrocious and besides his great open field tackling was a mess of a corner that was never fixed up from his Browns days and Trumaine Johnson was a disaster year one. So when those blitzes get caught by A Matt Ryan or Drew Brees then who is gonna stop this? Hargreaves? Bowles works on great corner play which is why both Mathieu and Peterson made him shine but too bad he isn't getting either or unless the Cards feel like trading Peterson away. Belcher now with the Giants did as good of a job as Bowles did no 16-17?

The Cardinals tried to sign JPP to replace Calais Campbell before he resigned with the Giants, and he's coming off a great first season in Tampa with 12.5 sacks. The Bucs front seven looks good on paper but a lot of their guys really underperformed.
Picking Vita Vea over Derwin James is looking like even more of a mistake when you look at them picking at #4 this time with a lot of top-10 type DTs available.

JPP in a 3-4 is scary and not in a good way. You need to be bulky as a 3-4 DE and with his cast he will be a fish out of water standing up as a OLB IMO where he will have to attack the run and open field tackle as much as apply pressure. He's another one who gets phased out if Bowles changes the scheme up.
Can't recall JPP ever playing in a 3-4. Spags notoriously ran 4-3 right? Same with Fewell.
Mccarthy banging the desk for the Jets job scares me. Very much. I actually think he might get this fucking job and bring McAdoo at OC and Zook at Special teams. Please UT help me.

The Cards got Chandler Jones instead and he's 6'5 and 265 while JPP is 6'5 and 275 pounds.
Here's an article from between the time the Giants signed Bettcher and traded JPP - although it does say Arians saw him as an OLB. Still, McCoy with Gholston and Allen as the DEs with Vita Vea as the NT works.

Contract might have been a big reason but JPP got thrown out of New York because of Bettcher though in spite of being the Giants best pass rusher the last year of his stay.

To be perfectly honest, McCarthy would be a better coach than the Jets have had in decades. He wore out his welcome in Green Bay but lets not act like he didn't have a 125-77 record and a Super Bowl ring while he was there.

I still think McCarthy doesn't touch Rex as far as motivating a team goes or running a defense. McCarthy's offenses as indicated by UT grew stagnant, he had no feel on who had the hot hand with the ball and could not get on the same page with California cool Aaron Rodgers and Rodgers play stepped up after his departure. Rex Ryan represented New Yorkers with that passion, that trial and error and that aggressive mentality. His act did grow stale true but Idzik did a lousy job sitting on his from spending for FAs. McCarthy's special teams scare me. Supposedly he runs a very outdated offense as well, that's something I do not want to see again after seeing it occur with Herm Edwards, Mangini, Rex Ryan and Bowles.

People also need to realize the offense they're watching , which is designed for everything to be read high to low , touchdown to check down so when you could blatantly see his checkdown sitting in the flats early in the read there was a reason Rodgers wasn't going there. Now there were certainly some possessions where he tried to make too much happen but that was also our best offense and best chance of scoring. Stats don't lie though , receivers weren't getting open aside from Davante , which is fine because they were young and that throws off everything ... especially when none came back to the football like they were supposed to.

Tell me about it , I still don't have an explanation for it aside from the idea that he was doing it to spite Rodgers as some kind of power play. Rodgers came out like every week and said we need to get AJ more involved and McCarthy would for a second and then pull him. There isn't a reasonable explanation on the planet for pulling a back with 100 yards in the first quarterback and sitting him for the next 30 minutes of game time. And then giving him on carry the rest of the game. Incompetence or spitefulness - that's the options.

He wore out his welcome in Green Bay but lets not act like he didn't have a 125-77 record and a Super Bowl ring while he was there. Let's not act like that record doesn't largely reflect Rodgers carrying his ass. Look at his record without Rodgers once , and all the time he spent trying to develop backups that couldn't even come in and hold down the fort. McCarthy was fine in the beginning but his offense never changed with the times and teams started to learn how to stop it. He never adjusted to anything and in 2019 was still relying on the most basic principles of the 80's WCO with Bill Walsh. Watch the All 22 of the Packers offense the last two years sometime if you can find it. Also the offense relied on 99% perfect accuracy from Rodgers on those back shoulder throws. Which was great because even a covered receiver could get a 1st down - but how about scheming a guy to get open on 3rd down instead once in awhile instead of continuing to rely on one of the hardest route/throw combinations in football.

I don't see how he's going to be a fit for the Jets at this time , they would need to go out and sign or trade for an elite receiver/route runner for Darnold to have a shot because I don't see a guy on their roster who is going to go out and consistently get open on their own. The special teams this year weren't really on him and haven't been bad every year , I'm not sure what went wrong this year but it was abysmal. Another negative with McCarthy that you would grow frustrated with is his loyalty. Now inherently that is supposed to be a good trait but he is loyal to a fault to players and his coaching staff and it costs you games. Dom Capers Marshall Newhouse Brad Jones Jarrett Bush He will beat any number of shit players or coaches into the ground and bench your biggest playmakers at the drop of the hat.

I love the pairing of Fangio and Kubiak in Denver. Phillip Lindsay is going to go right off in that stretch-run, zone blocking system.
Sounds like the Bears are making a late play to try and steal Bowles away from TB now they have a DC vacancy. I'd rather inherit the best defence in the league than the worst...

There’s merits to both sides. The Bears might actually be the tougher spot considering if he does well - he’s winning with someone else’s defense and if the Bears fall back to the pack than it’s all his fault. It’s almost a no win season. Tampa has low expectations and if he can even get them to respectable than his resume starts to get built back up.

To me, Adam Gase is Eric Mangini 2.0 only on the offensive side of things. I can see him knowing his side of the ball well and despite some shitty playcalls, I like him as a playcaller for Darnold. Two things that instantly scare me about Gase would be his inability to inspire players which fair or unfair is necessary on the pro level even if it's a professional aspect to it for grown men to behave and "Get Up" without a coach but his unyielding trust in his coordinators.
I saw Gase go 5-1 vs the Jets with the likes of Ryan Tannehill, Brock Osweiler, Jay Cutler and Matt Moore around over time. He got robbed the 2017 year but two factors....loss of Tannehill(Who sucks BTW, I have banged that drum but he was the teams best option) and the Hurricane disaster that destroyed both Tampa Bay and Miami that year and forced them to run the gauntlet of 16 straight games without a BYE due to it being forced over on Week 1 fresh out the gates for the young season. So his under .500 record IMO is skewed which is why I refuse to use that against him in that matter.
What I hold against him is if he's bringing back Vance Joseph who tried his best to sabotage a good Broncos defense in any way he can. He's another 4-3 guy who will try and fit a circle piece in a square peg per say and I don't think he is good enough like Eberflus of IND was to suddenly make the transition on the run and make it work. Would be a disaster of a hire but unless Cincy can save the day and baffingly hire him or Hue Jackson as HC, he seems likely employed by the Jets. How Vance Joseph still got that coaching job is beyond me but I truly feel fresh off the Miami playoff appearance that Elway wanted to go out of his way to fuck with Gase who has animosity due to the postponed SF interview a couple years back and wanted to take his DC and show the world it doesn't matter who coaches, he's John Elway and he knows how to make a championship team. Was Joseph forced to run a 4-3 defense in Denver via Elway? I have no idea but I think it is best if he conforms to what we have already built as a 3-4 defense.
And this Kenny Loggins character at OC, screams Kacy Rogers 2.0. Seems to be buddies with Gase which is why he will just stand there collecting a six figure pay check and be a yes man again for Gase. I have absolutely no idea what he does to be honest. But what I can see out of this hire is the Jets trying to get Sam Darnold someone who will defend a QB to no end and ultimately have their back. I know he caught flack for how much he protected Tannehill and I am not sure Darnold needs that level of pamper, Darnold seems more stable mentally as a QB vs Tannehill who got agitated over practice squad players intercepting him and feeling the need to fire back at them reminding them of his pay vs theirs.
Some of the horror stories that came out indicating how lackluster he is as a motivational guy scare me admittedly but lets be fair in that regard: He got saddled with selfish me first players like N. Suh who practically gave up the 2017 season, Jarvis "Pass ME! ME! The Ball! Me! Me! So I can get paid!" Landry and Brent "Yall want me to cover Michael Thomas AND Julio Jones and paying me like the 3rd best CB on the team? Fuck outta here." Grimes and his bimbo wife from the Real Housewives of Atlanta or wherever. These are guys that can destroy locker rooms and are ticking time bombs at any given moment. He got saddled again by Mike Tannebaum's inconsistent drafting and ONCE AGAIN having no fucking clue how the salary cap works being forced to sell off players for the sake of doing so(This guy mind you was Bill Parcells cap guy and a reason he got the Jets GM job). Not to say Mike McCagnan is any better because he isn't but still this isn't a recipe for success.
Gase is seemingly buddy buddy with Peyton Manning which is arguably how he got this Jets gig after Manning vouched for Gase over with owner Chris Johnson and also had worked with the likes of the aforementioned and also with Jay Cutler in two detours. I saw him incorporate a speed attack with Albert Wilson, Kenyan Drake, and Jakeem Grant before some of the guys got hurt that worked well enough to steal wins this year in Miami so I am wondering how he does with this team's (thus far) lackluster options on offense.
Am I doing backflips on this hire? Maybe not. But I can see the reason behind it. And if this fails so will McCagnan in going out the door which is what may very well be best for the team moving forward. I'm just indifferent about it altogether. I wish Gase would realize that what haunted him in Miami won't work either with the Jets and I wish he'd cut ties with these inept coaches he relies upon in all honesty but it seems alas to be. Kenny Loggins and Vance Joseph are not equipped to be head coordinators on a team in the pros but he truly thinks he knows what is best.
What scares me though is how much pull Mike McCcagnan has to actually tell a head coaching candidate like Matt Rhule who is coaching staff should be. In what world has this GM not only kept his job but also can tell coaches how to make a staff? I kid you not, what has he shown to have such pull to even do this? It is alarming that the owner seems smitten with this guy as GM when he's done such a piss poor job altogether in his 4 years as the Jets GM.
