Pokemon VIO/SCAR sort of have it where you can go any direction you want and complete any gym battles or side quest in any order. What was crazy to me is there was a frame perfect jump you can make with your Pokemon on back that takes you to higher level pokemon, I forget what Route it was called. You needed to jump off a cliff but you can see higher level pokemon on the other side and if you do it correctly, can leap onto there and fight/catch stronger level pokemon.

It's actually pretty easy to pull off. You can backwards jump up any cliff-side with your ride-mon provided it's not too steep. There's a corner of a cliff in the opening area, as well as a section on the cliff of the first titan you face. Speedrunners use it to collect a ton of exp candy to get their Flamigo up to Level 50 before facing any gyms.

Been absolutely hooked onto a game that came out 2 years ago in Fuga: Melodies of Steel. Given it came out on Game Pass on SEPT 2022, I didn't want to take a chance and have time run out on me if it goes off the subscription next month so I found time in August to do this. I tried to get into this game a few months ago but I didn't quite get the game. I was admittedly turned off by the andromorphic character design and had a lot of new games to catch up on so I only got into the first 40 or so minutes before putting it on the backlog. But man I went right into this bad boy with the sequel coming out a few months ago(Also on Game Pass) and I am so glad I did. So much thought, so much love got put into this game. Where do you even begin with this one? The concept of having a band of war torn children find each other after their village(s) and parents got kidnapped by the opposing race/military seems simple in an overview but man they really get dark with this game! The pack of kids(Most are cat like creatures("Felineko") with a couple of dog like creatures("Caninu") as well that you find down the road) stumble upon a one of a kind, A+ war machine tank capable of mass destruction and end up using this tank to fight & survive as they look for their loved ones who have been kidnapped or possibly worse. Along the way of their voyage with this new tank, they find a entity existing within the tank itself that guides them and tells them to progress & becomes almost like a moral compass for the kids through the toughest of times. All the while, you have an aforementioned group of militants who have a stronghold of surrounding villages and are often in the way of the kids journey to find their abducted families & friends. Here's where the gameplay lies. These end up becoming Strategy RPG goodness full of pretty intense battles in a side screen moving sort of turn based game with your giant war machine of a tank being your offense and defense vs the swarm of vehicles & machines that lie in your way. You have 3 major type of gunners, the Machine Gunners who are middle when it comes to power & accuracy(Blue characters), the grenadiers which are high accuracy but low damage(Yellow characters) and the cannon shooters are are low accuracy but high damage(Red characters). As you'd expect, you will face enemies that are either agile and require you to match that with a high accuracy character or the tank-ish slow but powerful mechs that require a high power character. To make this a true Strategy turn based RPG, you have the ability to hit enemies with the appropiate color(Enemies will have armor consisting of RED, BLUE and YELLOW) which if you hit each enemy with the matching color, you can delay their action and get more turns in with your team, which of course is highly recommended. In addition, each character gets skills that can range from healing to multi hit shots to status effects to high damage random firing etc. It's pretty typical of a game like this, nothing too crazy out of the ordinary but still it's addictive enough where I found myself every other day coming back to this game looking to chew off a chapter or two each session. The game is consisted of battling inside the tank so it's one shared HP with 3 characters that are attackers, 3 characters that are links/assists and the other characters waiting to be called hanging back which you can rotate for various means(Get a healer in, get 2-3 red or blue or yellow characters to try and score delays etc.). The side characters that hang back as assist each bring something unique to help a character(One character gives you small HP regen per normal attack, another increases your speed per normal attack, another increase critical rate etc.) so there's absolutely a purpose towards teaming characters with other ones to try and mix/match one's flaws with one's strengths. A low accuracy character cannon character will benefit from an assist character of someone who specializes in increased accuracy or a weaker grenadier weapon holder will benefit from an assist character of someone who specializes in increased normal damage. Think of this like Final Fantasy X where Wakka comes in for aerial enemies, Auron comes in for the tank enemies, Tidus for the speedy enemies etc where you can rotate in and out people. Of course, you can't use & abuse this like in Final Fantasy X because once you make a move on the 3 main characters and 3 assisters, your stuck for 3 turns with the decision so choose wisely! As you trot forth in your quest to get closer to finding your loved ones, you come across forks in the path on a grid sort of design(There's no open world movement or any thing of that nature in this game). You can take on safe paths and fight minimal enemies and get needed health/special points(Skills require the use of this and the better ones can be pricy so this is appreciated when you land on a SP refill) but stumble into very little if any treasures. Normal routes give you moderate health/special point regain, normal treasure finding and normal abundance of enemies and the dangerous paths give you a rough stretch of enemies that will make you work for victory, low HP/SP regain if at all and high amount of treasures which we will get into the importance of them shortly. It really becomes a battle of nutrition and how risky are you feeling? Tank is banged up and low on SP so are you willing to go the dangerous route or will you back off and play it with the normal route? The game really does a good job with making you think and having you really plan out your route taking and your decision making in battle which is highly appreciated. It makes the rest spots/Intermission points all the more appreciated! In addition to this, there are status effects that can occur against your team such as "Depression" or "Fear" or "Injured" which become massive hurdles that you need to get over to succeed in battle. All of these occur as your tank takes heavy amounts of damage and your at low health or come from enemies using specific status effects to have these plagues occur. Depression has your character not use link attacks(Will get to that shortly) or really work as a tandem with their partner or even use their own skill powers, Fear slashes your accuracy no matter the character by 50% which in a game all about turn utilization and hitting delays on enemies worrisome to say the least, and Injured means a character is close to getting knocked out or essentially taking out of any battle until they get to a rest point/intermission on the map. The game tells you and lets you know what has happened to a character so nothing is in the dark but it really makes you use the 12 character you get by the end really well where there isn't a single unused character or weak link. Everybody serves a purpose on your voyage which is highly appreciated! Each character after taking enough damage or if producing enough damage gets a "Hero mode" which is essentially the berserk mode. One doubles their healing, one has status effects on every attack, one does crucial attacks per attack, one does double damage etc. So useful, so friggin needed when your back is on the ropes! They run out after 6 turns but for those 6 turns, man they roll. Sucks they don't carry over into future chapters so use them or lose them! What is unique to this game is the "Soul Cannon" element. Much like with Fire Emblem, this game has the option that if a character dies, they are forever lost in what is otherwise known as "Perma-Death". Only in Fuga: Melodies of Steel if a character is KO'd, as mentioned before, they are able to get right back in the trenches after resting up at a intermission spots of the chapter. However, there is one option that is given to you where if your at a really tough boss fight or are on the verge of death, your moral compass entity character will tell you that the "Soul Cannon is Ready" and as demonstrated in the tutorial, it's a double edged sword. The good? It is essentially the win button and can wipe out all opposition with a single blast, saving you from imminent death. The bad? The character who boldly sacrifices him or herself is gone forever, used as the lifeforce to utilize such a devastating weapon to save the others. Gone forever as in gone from the game, dead. Thankfully, outside of the tutorial which is mandatory that it gets used to show you the ups and downs of the mechanic, I have not had to use this one despite the game telling me that it's ready to lock & load. I am over 2/3 of the way through and thus far, still holding on strong with all of my cast members and I want to keep it that way if I can! It is necessary for the best ending of the game as you'd imagine. This makes the boss fights pretty rough but still fair & doable. The real good part of Fuga: Melodies of Steel is the content away from battle. The intermission/rest spots are massive where social linking/bonding amongst characters(Think Persona) is paramount towards winning in battle as social links=link attacks where built up comradery can lead to really helpful 1 shot attacks(HP Regain+Moderate Damage or Status Damage+Speed Up). You get 20 AP to use(Ability points) throughout each stop spot and you can do various means. Plant farms for meals that becomes temporary buffs for a couple of fights, cooking that gives you a temp buff of stuff like experience points or speed or attack, mine venturing that has you in simple minigames exploring mines for treasures that help you expand various things inside the mech like beds or the amount you can farm, beds that take up 5 AP but can rest up people stricken with injuries, a scrap fishing game that can yield to more treasures, improvements on your armor/SP core/cannons/grenadiers/machine guns or just chit chatting with allies to get new 1 minute link up lore dialogue amongst 2 people. Heck there's even Laundry Day that bonds 2 characters at no AP cost! You have 20 AP which seems like a lot but they run out pretty fast and given each character at the very start at the intermission asks to do a certain skill(Farming Chickens or Making food or resting) to help improve their mood to use those previously talked about hero mode attacks in the heat of battle. You also get to barter items at the very start of each chapter where you exchange 3 small HP gains for 1 big HP gain or trade items necessary to improve your intermission spots though I wish this was more accessible as you can only do this at the very start of each chapter so if you didn't get the necessary items to level up the cannons or farm, your stuck for the remainder of the chapter barring finding them in ruin exploration or scrap fishing(Some you have to buy from here I believe no matter what). The game even has a mini comic that is given out free of each chapter that is cute! The characters are simple enough but pretty likable altogether. It's a bunch of elementary kids which is pretty hokey that they can patrol around a majestic machine that kills and protects them from the dangers lying ahead but each character is pretty cute & useful in their own means! The game is in French or Japanese dialogue only so I opted for the former as I get enough Japanese dubs in gaming already and it's pretty good, the game isn't heavy with voice dialogue so it isn't a turn off in the least that this isn't in English. The art design is cartoony and it's good for what it is. If you can get past the characters being human like animals you are in for a heck of a time. Admittedly, Fuga 1 can get repetitive as in nature with most of these types of games in the genre but I find myself playing 2 chapters per session just enough to not feel drained of the game. I can't see how someone just beats this game in 2-3 days and not end up hating the game, there's so much micromanaging and fighting the same few groups of enemies that you'd drive yourself to sheer madness playing this game for so long in a single sitting! Yeah, this game doesn't have a surplus of new enemies or strategies and I found the game began to repeat the same couple of boss strategies for the most part but heck if there isn't challenge to be had and again, I think when it comes to this genre of game, there's really no way around repetition so as long as the combat is smooth enough, it's manageable. I am on Chapter 10 of what is I think an 11 or 12 chapter game so I am near the end but man I have had such a good time with the game. It's to the point that it's a matter of when, not if I dive into Fuga 2. Most certainly, before the end of the year to see if it can get a spot on my GOTY list. Fuga: Melodies of Steel is a must play for a Strategy turn based RPG fan IMHO. Don't let the cover or it being an Indy title fool you. It's really friggin' good. Criminally overlooked game. (The end of the chapter boss fight music, so soothing but epic nevertheless. Feels totally anime-ish but I love it. Feels like Gundam Wing. ) Back on this crack, with the sequel(Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2) which came out May of last year but I could not get to since I was caught up in so much with games and needed a little break after 20+ hours of the original. Given Game Pass usually has a 1 year ownership of games that come to it, I feel like May 2024 is when Fuga 2 is taken off the subscription(The 1st one was taken off eventually) and I would hate to be in a position where I am on like 1-2 weeks to play & beat this game so getting the jump on it with nothing out until Stellar Blade which is end of April. Only 1 chapter so far but despite me not playing the 1st game in like 8 months, so much of what made the 1st game has returned. Feeling right at home with everything, ya love to see it. Pretty dark story early on so far which isn't too surprising as the 1st game got really crazy too. Finished Fuga 2 last night, just as good as the 1st one. Even the additional Qualities of Life additions like the ability to use a airship service to go back to path choices to get more EXP/treasure/health or SP regain spots to better prepare yourself for the end of chapter bosses is such a good feature. There's a neutrality system of empathy vs resolution that is kinda cool given you get unique features per each choice you make. While it doesn't really impact your story too much, there are endings tied to this if you go extreme in one of the choices(Picking pure empathy gives you a different ending vs doing it neutral or picking resolution). It's no InFamous good vs evil or anything but still something cool to add flavor to the story. I preferred the enemies/main antagonist of the 1st one as it's a more consistent threat from start to finish(Won't spoil why) but outside of that, the sequel just does everything better than the 1st one, as you'd expect. The soul cannon returns which again is OP attack that can kill all enemies but it comes at the cost of a permadeath of chosen character you sacrifice which ruins your true ending opportunities and ruins the morale of your team members for a given time. What is new in Fuga 2 is the Monorail attack which is this game's soul cannon ability only it knocks out(Rather than kill) the chosen member who uses it and your entire party won't get experience for the fight that it's used in. Given your member cannot join again until end of the chapter if they're KO'd, you're gonna want to stay away from this attack and use only in emergency. What adds to the stakes of each boss fight at the end of the chapter is if you hit below a certain HP threshold, your new A.I. who guides you throughout Fuga 2 will decide to not take any risk, to give you a 20 move ultimatum to finish the fight or else the randomly chosen teammate is used as the soul cannon to finish the job. This is rough as it's 20 moves not turns so you have 20 plays you can make to finish the fight or else you lose a member via permadeath. This was frustrating for me at first until I saw you can lose an ability point(You get 20 AP per intermission much like in Fuga 1) to ease up with the threshold where instead of 50% down it's like 25% health left before the A.I. goes rogue and goes emergency mode. It adds to the decision making and makes it a point to heal and not be in the position to be forced to use the soul cannon or have it thrown upon you. It's still a game that you are best to play it in spurts, like 1-2 chapters a day since it does get repetitive with the combat and can be very same-sy. However, much like with Fuga 1, there's no real way to avoid that. Yes, enemy variation could be a bit better here as the enemies feel very similar to not only what you fight throughout Fuga 2 but it even feels like it rips off enemy design/combat choices from the 1st game. The only unique regular enemies in this one are the rare enemies that you have a certain amount of turns to kill in a spoils go to the victor sort of way. They are tougher to hit(High evasion) and again you have a set amount of time to get them or else they escape but you get good rewards to help sell off to get more currency to improve your workbases etc. Had I played this last year, this is fighting with Sea of Stars for my 3rd favorite game of last year, that's how much I love this series. It feels like a cartoon you'd see on Cartoon Network or something, yet the game still does get somewhat dark in nature. Few new gimmicks that open the game up as well. Easy recommend to play if you at all liked the 1st one as it continues the story and gives you more of what you liked about the 1st game. Fact that there is a teaser for a 3rd game is awesome considering I don't think either game sold well as it's a very obscure series. I would be so down to play this game for a 3rd entry for sure. Effortless 30 hours put into this one.

Here's my team so far.
Azumarill 19 Jigglypuff 18 Pawmi 17 Mankey 18 Floragato 20 Lechonk 17
Had a Diglett and a Psyduck but they were replaced with someone on the team, dunno who. I never used them in battle. I also caught a Blissy as Chansey served me well in Platinum, but I just added them to the box in case I wanna change someone out. Had some trouble with a cabbie trainer who kept aerial acing my ass. Wasted too many revives to survive that one.

List no longer accurate and LMAO I think this is TOO big honestly. I'm just wandering aimlessly. The map is kinda confusing since it always goes to a new position when I open it vs. where I left off.

You can lock the map in place by selecting a button, the map screen should show you which one to press.
Keep us posted, how many titans have you taken down? Which gyms have you beaten? Could you see yourself joining Team Star?

Are titans the raid battles? If so, only recently been doing them as a crystalized Meowth whipped me early on so I thought they were end game powerful... a lv 35 Chansey gave me issues simply because of who was in top spot. Caught it though, we'll see if it ever makes the big leagues.
Azumarill 30 Mankey 27 Floragato 29 Oinklogne 29 Charcadet 25 Misdreavus 28
I've done 3 gyms so far: the egg football, hide and seek with the flowers and the sharp toofus influencer. Also did the fire base for team star. Can't be on the team because then Nemona will be mad. Also if she's a champion why is she slumming it up with me? Dude I'm not a simp or anything but if I WAS...

What is the 4th gym you're supposed to go? Everywhere I try doesn't lead me to the next one, they are whipping me AND I'm right @ level 35 so I can't really grind or they won't listen to me. First google says water so I guess we'z there. Been trying to reach these pokemon centers to make traversing easier.

The great thing that Scarlet & Violet did was keep the same gym bosses, I hated Sword & Shield having exclusive gym battles to each version. Absolute nonsense. Keeping Pokemon exclusive is one thing(I always hate it but I get why they do it) but actual boss fights locked in exclusivity where you MUST own the game(You can at least trade for the other Pokemon) to be able to engage in the fight? Nah.
Still, it's a shame you don't have prehistoric babe Prof Sada in your game, another genius idea by The Pokemon Team to make the professors exclusive to each version. You got the Futuristic Gigachad Prof. Toro instead. It's silly that the other one doesn't even exist in the other game. What is canon?

Completed Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Shinra HQ was a bit of a chore, not as bad as the second sewer mission but not far off. There is some great stuff, particularly the presentation of Mayor Domino and his manservant. The Shinra meeting is a great cutscene. The general presentation of Hojo's laboratory and the associated boss fights is both brilliant and harrowing, but the dungeon crawl was pretty tedious.
Everything after the Hojo section was great. The cutscene before President Shinra's death, the Sephiroth appearance, the boss rush. Fantastic. The Rufus fight is perhaps my favourite of the game, a real action RPG challenge. Makes me wish there were more 1v1 fights.
The motorbike sequence was also unnecessary long-winded but it ended in the right way with a fantastic adaptation of the Roller Ball boss fight, the notorious final boss of the Midgar section. Except not in the remake, because they added on a whole 'nuther chapter where you fight against Fate itself followed by Sephiroth. I wouldn't describe it as easy but it wasn't too challenging either. Beat the whole thing in two attempts. Whisper Bahamut wiped me out the first time. On the second attempt I was prepared but it was still a very tough fight.
The Sepiroth fight was fairly easy but fun. I say easy but I cheesed the final section with limit break spam. That countdown was too terrifying to do anything else.
It seems there's a hefty chunk of post-game content including a secret boss so I'm not done yet. I also need to max out my Revive materia to complete the most grindy of the Chadley intel missions.
Phenomenal game. I hope Rebirth arrives on PC relatively soon.

Rebirth might have a 1 year timed exclusivity with Sony IIRC. Think you will have a great time with that one Emperor. Few years late to the party but yeah Ender Lillies: Quietus of the Knights is so friggin' good. Such a good Metroidvania that borrows elements of Soulsbourne games(Respawning of enemies after this game's bench rest point which is similar to Hollow Knight). Figure I can sneak this one in before Stellar Blade comes in the end of the month and with the Ender's sequel coming this year. The soundtrack of Ender Lillies is top notch, the graphics are beautiful drawn, the gameplay is simple to get into but gives you so many option with the different choices of relics to use, movement gets better as you progress, it's just a simple & good Metroidvania. I knew I would like this game given the biggest comparison this game got is Salt & Sanctuary which I played a few years ago and enjoyed myself very much on.

I originally intended to watch streamers play the game as I did for Remake but decided to go spoiler free for Rebirth. What intrigues me is what level you start at. At the end of Remake you're level 40+, maxed out materia, all weapons and abilities. Is Rebirth just a hard reset on all of that?

Yep hard reset back to level 1 and over time, you will re-learn the previous abilities/materia that you once got in the 1st one. Def. a pet peeve for plenty.
You should play FFVII Integrade DLC with Yuffie, it's very short and (somewhat) necessary if you're going to play Rebirth next year or whenever. It should have came with FF7 Remake if you got the Remake+Integrade version?

Update time. I beat all the gyms, but I still got 2 more star bases before the LEAGUE. I assume they won't be trouble but will I have issues with my team in the endgame?
Dragonair 52 Dragon Pulse | Aqua Tail | Dragon Rush | Flamethrower
Annihilape 54 Outrage | Shadow Ball | Low Kick | Gunk Shot
Meowscarada 53 Aura Sphere | Pollen Puff | Energy Ball | Seed Bomb
Misdreavus 54 Psychic | Foul Play | Hyper Voice | Power Gem
Electrode 54 Volt Switch | Gyro Ball | Electro Ball | Explosion
Azumarill 54 Surf | Ice Beam | Play Rough | Hydro Pump
As always I'm all about offense with no stat boosts. I almost wanna get rid of Dragonair simply because it's the only one not inside a normal Pokeball. Despite getting it down to a sliver of health it would not be captured with it, so it always looks odd in an ocd way when I'm healing them at the 'center. Yeah I intentionally didn't use my more advanced pokeballs just so it looks uniform.

Got my 22nd Platinum with Ender Lillies: The Quietus of the Knights, yeah it's as good as advertised. Such an easy to get into Metroidvania and doing everything takes about 20 hours give or take which means there's a decent amount of content without too much bloat. The only area I disliked was the Sub. Lab late game which felt sort of confusing and had unavoidable AOE damage, regardless of if you find the right relic to equip or not. Every other area felt super enjoyable and with a killer soundtrack and art design, it was such a fun playthrough. As I get older, I find the simpler that games are, the better time I have with them and Ender Lillies is no exception. As with most games of this genre, you jump into the gameplay after minimal cutscenes and it's simple to get into. What this game does great is the amount of different builds you have access to where you get various relics throughout your journey as well as absorbing each big boss you kill and inherit their ability(Think Mega Man only there's no weaknesses of each boss) which are extremely useful and serve as the this Metroidvania's "Progress" mechanic. Double jump, air dash, wall climbing, hookshot etc. The music is outstanding and has a level of delicate classical music that is pleasant to listen to when you're even trying to fully complete an area. Very decent amount of enemy variation which is sometimes an issue for Metroidvania and a very healthy amount of save points/quick travel spots too. This game does inherit some elements of Soulsbourne games like the Bonfire mechanic of reviving downed enemies upon saving/refreshing your health but unlike Soulsbourne games, you level up automatically with enough experience and are not at risk of losing currency that is necessary in leveling up or buying items. Game is very forgiving in that regard and the boss fights consistent of learning a pattern of each boss. There was never a boss that took me more than 5 attempts but that could be a case by case basis of each player.
The lone blemishes of this game is the aforementioned one late game area and the inability to respec in this game. You have so many different type of builds that you get access to at the end of the game but because you needed to spend your upgrades to power up early relics/spirits obtained, you can't get back what you spent already so you are unable to power up your newer abilities gained. Again, I get it, it breaks the game open if it was so simple but that's why you put this the respec option at the endgame as I feel like inferior spirits I don't feel the need to use are wasted currency by the end. This leads to grinding if you truly want to max out or just even upgrade abilities which could have been fixed with a simple solution. The game moves better as you get more abilities but that's a Metroidvania thing and it'd defeat the purpose if you get these abilities immediately so I get it but Ender Lillies much like all the other similiar genre games, feels much better the further you get into it.
So glad to fit this in here in 2024, especially with the sequel looming, the next Ender game becomes must play based off how good this 1st one was. Easy 9/10.

Am I crazy or was that the easiest elite 4? Not that I completely ran through them, they took a few of my guys out... but usually I'm used to doing a lot of background healing. Did freak me out when the little girl already came out the door before I had a chance to clean up my team. I thought it was gonna be a legit endurance. Don't think I was overpowered or anything, not that any grinding is ever needed. Found I needed to avoid battling at times since I was always right at the badge's limit right when I got it. Still a bit to do. Turned it off before fighting Nemona, got whatever the crater deal is and there's also the DLC. I'm about 10 levels higher than my last update post give or take. Or yeah a few more classes to burn through.
Did Larry hold the position the whole time? It fits overworked salary man, but can you hold gym leader AND that post at the same time? It confused me since I thought longhair was #4 not champion. Nemona is "A" champion? Guess they hand them out like Pokemon Cards...
The little girl saying she hadn't been active in a long time, implying nobody gets past Ruby Rose. But wouldn't she be a literal fetus if that was true? I know it's like applying logic to wrestling...

The fact that they outright heal you after each fight IIRC sort of makes it easy, but I like the fairness of it. Back then, you had to prep with X Potions and MP Heals as much as you had to pick Pokemon to fight with.
The post game will give you give you a fight though.

They did before the champion fight, but I used items before I approached. Would I have been healed if I didn't use my items?

I've been reading Ness' Pokemon journey, I'm loving it. I'm glad to see you're enjoying the game. Despite all of the complaints online, I only really had a problem once, with the game crashing.
