King of the North was the title he earned when he hit the buzzer beater.
Now he’s the King of the NBA.

Will it be something if Kawhi leaves and sign with the Warriors? Not going to happen but that will be funny as hell Kawhi could do anything, and everything. And it still wouldn't bother us. Because he led us to a championship.

Downtown Toronto looks nuts.
Still surreal seeing all of this on TV.

I teared up when the buzzer went and got to watch my daughter celebrate a Toronto team winning a major title. Now I’m looking at pics and video of friends downtown partying hard in the streets.
I haven’t missed home this much since I left. They fucking did it. I’m so happy right now.
We The Champs.

From the Vince Carter/Tmac days, The Alvin Williams/JYD days, the struggle of postseason for years with DaRozan and Lowry,.
It takes Lebron leave the East and the Raptors take a huge gamble to get Kawhi and it pay off finally.

They came a long away since getting my first Raptors hat for my birthday just after they unveiled the logo in 1994. Great memories with my cousin watching that all star weekend in 2000 and "It's Over" being the new catchphrase, the heatrbreak and disappointment of the Carter/Bosh days in the playoffs, what a ride.

I am literally at a loss of words. I've been a basketball fan since even before there was a team in Canada.
Never could I believe that this would happen to us. The excuses were numerous. It was too cold, the dollar is too low, the taxes, the media was too harsh, the city was known for losing.
But, here we are. I still can't even talk. I'm still in awe of what has happened.
Our team, and by that I don't just mean Toronto's team, I mean Vancouver's team, Edmonton's team, Calgary's team, Saskatchewan's team, Winnipeg's team, Thunder Bay's team, Ottawa's team, Montreal's team, Halifax's team, Charlottetown's team, St. John's team, Whitehorse's team, Yellowknife's team, Iqaluit's team,...
CANADA'S TEAM!!! OUR TEAM DID IT!!!
ALL HAIL THE KINGS OF THE NORTH!!! THE KINGS OF THE WORLD!!!

Also good on Alvin Williams, Chris Bosh and Sam Mitchell for coming back to do panel work for TSN and Sportsnet.
A truck is getting destroyed on Younge and Dundas (pretty much the core of the downtown core in TO).

Hopefully things don’t get too out of hand. Check out the traffic map of Toronto on google. Just a huge dark red grid. Yonge St is closed for like 8 blocks. WOOOOOOOOOO

I gotta say - it was damn fun being Canadian for a couple weeks.
Seems only kinda fair that Canada takes the title in an American sport, considering we've been stealing Stanley Cups for decades and placing hockey teams in the middle of deserts and on beachside property...
Seriously though, what an awesome series. The only thing that would have made it better would be VC being on the team to get that ring he deserves.
Kawhi just might be the closest thing I've seen to MJ or Kobe since MJ or Kobe in terms of killer instinct and clutch factor. Really hoping he stays in Toronto, but I wouldn't blame him if he joined the Clippers either.

In a history of “no buts”, which means 20-25 years from now; do you think people will still talk about the Warriors dynasty? Because not for nothing, they went 3-2 whereas Lebron went 3-6. I think Lebron going to 9 straight is way more impressive then the Warriors going to 5 with a 3-2 record. Also, that Bulls/Warriors convo is over. Bulls win.
Because 25 years from now, nobody is going to want to hear “but they faced Lebron” or “but KD and Klay got hurt.” I think history in sports isn’t a history of buts.

That’s just silly comparisons considering they didn’t have Durant and lost Klay in a close deciding game. Imagine the Bulls losing Pippen and whoever you want to put in that third spot and see what happens.

I think it does, but if you look back, making 5 straight finals with a stacked team isn't really an amazing feat in the grand scheme of things. At least not in my opinion. GSW gets talked about because they did it, but there's a lot of what ifs to look back on. The Bulls could have, but Jordan left. The Lakers could have, but the Spurs showed up. Miami/Cleveland could have, but LeBron had to do heel and face turns. Those other teams came close, but GSW were the first of the "modern era"/since the 60s. So they deserve the credit for sure. ... As for injuries, they're hard to ignore. The Warriors were beat the fuck up, but at the same time, they aren't the first team to have that happen. Look at what it takes to win championships and look at how many teams in all the major leagues have advantages and disadvantages. That's part of the game. I don't think a single person in any of those locker rooms went "well if only we were healthy.." no. Sorry. You were there, you had your chance, but you lost. Happens almost every year in almost every sport.

The 97 Finals were won by Steve Kerr hitting a 3 pointer. Like come on.

Happens almost every year in almost every sport. They were down three starters , probably more like 4 since Looney was their best post man and interior defender. That’s not just a few injuries an incredible toll. Again take 3 of the top six Bulls and see what happens. The Bulls were great but they were not more stacked than GS - no way is their 3rd best player better than Klay , not their 4th better than Draymond. And then there’s Iggy.

I’m not saying anything , but to think that after a finals where they were down as many players as they were is the definitive finals on the dynasty is ridiculous.

UT You're not gonna sell me on injuries, man. Durant didn't play at all and they made the finals. Iguodala got hurt against Portland, they still won, then he came back for the Finals. Cousins got hurt at the start of the playoffs, missed the whole thing, they won without him anyway, then he came back for the Finals. Looney is the only argument here and GSW can easily win without him. Unless your argument is that those guys should have remained out because Golden State won without them, and they actually hurt the team by trying to play, then I'll listen. But otherwise you're just wrong and all the salty journalists saying we got robbed of a proper finals are too.
