So is this different from the other protesting they were doing about retirement? Those were mostly cau-oui,oui-casian Frenchies. They always riot. These are mostly minority Frenchies, at least that's how the media is portraying it, which ironically now makes them proper true patriots of Francais. Pretty sure the victim-aggressor was of Algerian descent.

Or we call it, just another day in America.

My boss just showed me her urn for her cat that died a month ago. I know people who have a bunch of urns displayed for their deceased pets and I just don't get it. We have put down 4 cats and have photos and keepsakes and of course memories, but never once have I felt the need to bring one of them home stuffed or in an urn (you aren't even sure is them). :ugh:

When our dog got put down we put the ashes in an urn. Maybe it's just a way of coping in the sense that they're not truly gone since they are still there. But you're right you don't know it's them, a random collection of other pets or it could just be filled with expired cajun seasoning.

1 or 2 urns. Fine. But we knew a couple people who had like 5+. One lady had 2 Chow Chow's and 2 Himalayan cats at any given time and she had at least 10 urns set out. I suppose urns better than having them stuffed though.

It’s not my thing but I get it , it’s no different than the 100 other conventions out there that people are passionate about. Just features stuff for that specific culture.

Old Car Shows. Really? Same cars every year. Some old dude flexing about his 70s car for the last 20 years. I don't understand why grown men dress up as cartoon characters and stand in line to met D-Grade celebrities at comic book conventions... but they do. Each to their own. Cars tick a lot of boxes. The old dude likely worked on or restored that car, or has had that car since he was a kid. Or for a lot of guys in their 30-50s, they inherited the car from a family member and it unlocks a lot of memories. For many, older cars offer a sense of nostalgia plus driving an older vehicle is also a completely different experience to anything built in the last 30 years. Most of these car scenes have deep communities that run back decades, that's are often part of larger communities. A lot of guys with street rods or rat rods are part of the greater rockabilly or rock 'n roll scenes as an example. And a lot these events also themselves a front for a charity.. don't tell anyone. It's often about getting people out and asking patrons for donations or the entry costs go towards fund-raising. Rod Runs and charity runs, often the guys with the old cars are paying to go on them with all proceeds going to local charities. Bikers often do the same, but often people don't see past the patches and beards and think all these people are unfriendly, violent people. Picture this... it's a nice, warm spring day.. windows are rolled down and there's some tunes playing and the sound of an old engine as you cruise to hang out with some old mates.. there's worse ways to spend an afternoon.

People moving countries doing no research, I feel like I research more for a holiday than someone people who plan to live in a new country.
Have seen several videos of people complaining they moved to Sydney, Australia and can’t find a place to live, two seconds of research will tell you there’s a rental crisis and Sydney’s very expensive in terms of real estate.
Also people that bump old threads.

I thought I'd mega bump this thread, maybe this time not with snarky comments. There are many things that I don't enjoy, but understand and can see how other people might like it, things like opera or the city of Adelaide.
There are however some very popular interests that I can't fathom. One is horror movies, I don't understand what the attraction is, I'm not judging people who enjoy them, I don't understand the attraction. Are there people who enjoy being scared, or being terrified?
I have come to the realisation lately that I have lived most of my life with anxiety, I cannot imagine wanting to put any unnecessary stress on my nervous system, I actively avoid it.

When I lived in Kelowna this drove me nuts. Next to Toronto and Vancouver it is the most expensive place to live in Canada, and has a less than 1% vacancy rate when it comes to rentals. This is common knowledge. It has been this way for almost 20 years since the city blew up after the recession in 2008 (housing prices dove, people with money bought up property in a nice place, ?, profit). I knew this when I chose to move back there in 2017 and made an educated decision. Unfortunately COVID fucked up our plans, something nobody could have seen coming, but even with that when I had to leave the city for financial reasons I accepted it, had a plan in place, and am much better off now. And yet I constantly saw posts on social media of absolute meat sacks asking for help because they "just moved to the area and can't find a place to live! I'm going to be homeless in a week! I don't know what to do!" Are you fucked? Even worse was the people that had like 4 kids, 3 dogs, a cat and a lizard, and couldn't understand why they couldn't rent a 5-bedroom house for less than an apartment cost. HOW DID YOU GET THIS FAR??? When you're at a stop light and the dude next to you is just itching to go and keeps scooting up... then when it's green fucker doesn't even go right away. I will never understand this. And it's so common. Some fucker is like halfway in the intersection by the time the light turns green then they either don't go or they have put their car in reverse. What are you doing? I thought I'd mega bump this thread, maybe this time not with snarky comments. There are many things that I don't enjoy, but understand and can see how other people might like it, things like opera or the city of Adelaide. I have come to the realisation lately that I have lived most of my life with anxiety, I cannot imagine wanting to put any unnecessary stress on my nervous system, I actively avoid it. I like scary movies but not ones with lots of gore. Slasher films make zero sense to me. It isn't scary, it's just gross. Like why are the Terrifier movies so popular? I couldn't understand the hype so I tried to watch some popular scenes people were talking about and I couldn't even look it was so upsetting and gross. The fuck is wrong with you that you want to watch that? But movies that are unsettling like Paranormal Activity or Blair Witch or Silence of the Lambs or Barbarian or the upcoming Long Legs? Sign me up.

Terrifier is popular as it is extreme gore and post French extreme not too much coming out in this sub-genre. People get into these for the creative deaths and effects.
Cannot wait for Long Legs. Should toss the trailer in the horror thread. Should be the film that gets Perkins into the mainstream.
And yeah many people like the tension of horror, that is one of the appeals.

I don't enjoy being scared. Not anymore. In my early 20s I enjoye the thrill of watching the hyper-tense chillers like Paranormal Activity, but now I wouldn't want to watch it because it's too scary. Scary in the sense that it thrives on the jump scare, and the anticipation of the jump scare. I don't enjoy that like I used to. But when I did enjoy it, I'd describe the feeling akin to being on a rollercoaster. It's scary and exciting yet controlled and safe. I still love psychological horror movies, but mainly for the stories, themes of the occult and the supernatural interest me, at least in a fictional setting. Exploring the dark side of human imagination. The same reason I enjoy psychological dramas and thrillers. Slashers and gorefests have never interested me. Much like RT, I don't see the point. I cannot fathom why people enjoy them.

I lost all interest in horror by my early 20s. As a kid I grew up on the classic 80s horror hits and then, the later half of the 90s were littered with Scream knock offs.
It took me about 10 sittings to get through the original Saw, as I would lose interest or fall asleep.

Why people don't seem to understand if you continue to reward bad behavior, they have no incentive to change. In the mid 2000s Xbox 360 had the RROD issues of consoles not working. Despite this people kept getting new ones and supporting the brand. All of fast food really, but been seeing Chipotle and Popeyes related stuff in my feed. High prices and smaller portions = stop fucking going. Vote with your wallet. "This isn't worth $20 for the amount of food" - and yet you keep paying for it. Often times you see it at work too. Famous example is teachers buying supplies because the district won't provide them. Sometimes you gotta let it fail. Not like they can afford to let teachers go, not a lot of people willing to work for a carton of raspberries. Wrestling we can probably relate. Why do they keep pushing Cena. Because even absent of the merch sales, you keep showing up. You're tuning in. You're engaging online. You pay for tickets to boo him. They are WINNING. Maybe we're all secretly happier miserable and complaining and want to be abused. I'm not sure.
Through the pandemic I got big into Doordash content online. Same scenario. Complaining about lack of tips and the drama surrounding those trashy "customers" and yet you still deliver it. I'm sure part of it is they make money on the content and not a lot of views to be had on wholesome encounters, but still... stop engaging with miserable companies. "I can't believe base pay is so low" - why would they increase it if you're willing to work for peanuts?

Because we're all hypocrites and creatures of habit.
My town is famous for fruit growing / processing. One of two local canneries owned by the same company was literally 50m away from a store I managed, and another 200m away from another one of our stores.
There was mass outrage when we stopped stocking locally produced tin fruit ( because union bullying had killed the margins and forced the processors to push the prices up ) so, there was mass outrage because they couldn't buy local tins.... yet, for every can of local produce we sold, we sold 30 or 40 cans of imported stock for a fraction of the price.
So, they brought the local tins back and most of the local stuff was reduced to clear, before it expired. And still, the imported stuff continued to outsell it.
Everyone knew it was bad, but they only cared enough to complain about it online, and not actually change their habits.
Long story short, one of those canneries closed down.

Yep the whole ‘buy local’ and then go shop on Amazon, Wal Mart and Costco. I get it. I’m just as guilty in saying I want to see change but not willing to do what it takes to see that change.
