From what I remember the worst of it is a little bit north of where System lives but a very worrying situation all around. Only early November too, it's going to be a long and dangerous summer.
Politics surrounding this have been absolutely disgusting, we have some truly awful people in Parliament.

Closest fires to me are 15km away in Greta but doesn’t look like they will get closer fortunately.
My condolences to those that have been affected

What's the air quality like? We get forest fires pretty regularly here in BC and last year the fires weren't even that close and you still could only go outside if you absolutely needed to.

Fire and drought in Australia are like shootings in the United States. Everyone else can see them coming apart from Government.
And for a conservative base or leader to suggest, once again this is due to Green’s policy is almost outrageous.
This is the reality in the bush and regional areas, if only our leaders could see past the walls of our capitals.
Climate change is a factor, it may not be “ hotter “ but summer seems longer, the rain few and far between and the landscape dryer and dryer. Even an idiot like me can see this.

Barnaby Joyce hardly speaks on the behalf of the government. More ridiculous is Bandt trying to pass an emergency measure preventing the expanding of the coal industry. As if us not mining it will reduce consumption.

Safe and sound over in my neck of the woods, the only concern was a bushfire a few suburbs over, but supposedly it wasn't caused by nature.
It's devastating, especially for our farmers who are suffering severely from drought. Some of the stories that emerged from Wytaliba were shocking and it's just another kick in the guts for a community that's already finding it difficult to get through the days.
There was some smoke earlier in the week, but nothing too uncomfortable. Supposedly the worst is yet to come up here though, so I'm holding out hope that my relatives out west aren't affected.

We haven't had the extensive fires down here in Victoria that they've had further north but yesterday was a wild AF weather day. It got over 40 in Melbourne which hasn't happened for 100 years, and it was combined with strong northerly winds that basically covered everything in dust leading to every man and his dog taking a variation of this photo: The apocalypse is coming - we're fucked.

Where about's are you @hr? I'm up in Shepparton, Vic.
Over two days it went from a cool 20-something degrees to 42c ( 107.6f ) with 100kms winds - Code Red - The end of the world with terrible visibility and smoke and dust in the air. Now, today it's back to a cool 20 something, and blue skies.

42? That's gross. I was in Florida in September and it was late 20's with major humidity and I just sweat all the time. Terrible.

I’m up in Sydney today too! They had to make an announcement on the plane to tell everyone not to worry if the smell of smoke came through the aircon during the decent.
