There are some absolutely fascinating QB situations around the league now. New Orleans have probably rocketed to #1 with the acquisition of Jameis Winston and the resigning of Taysom Hill. I think it’s a very astute move by Winston and his camp having seen what the same thing did for Teddy Bridgewater’s value last season, parlaying a couple of starts into a long term contract – plus there’s the added incentive/possibility that Jameis could actually take over if Drew Brees retires after this season. It does also suggest that Sean Payton’s words don’t really match his feelings about Hill being a genuine starting quarterback, and indeed drafting Tommy Stevens might suggest that they are already looking to replace him as the utility man.
Obviously the Packers were the story of the draft – undercutting Aaron Rodgers in the most passive aggressive way possible. The logic of what they are trying to achieve is completely beyond me. Rodgers can’t be moved on for at least two seasons for cap reasons, and we know that one of the best ways to win in the NFL is to strike while you have a viable QB on their rookie contract, so even if (and it’s a big if) Jordan Love is any good, you’ve wasted two years of that window – times have changed since they drafted Rodgers to sit behind Favre.
Finally I keep swaying back and forth on the Patriots situation between “wtf how are you going into the season without a genuine starting prospect?” and actually thinking that had they drafted Stidham this season there would be far less drama around it. He seems to have less credibility having been in the New England system for a year when in reality that should have improved his chances of success. But of course just because they didn’t make a move before the draft doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Cam Newton is still available, and a seemingly more appropriate fit like Andy Dalton could be fairly easily acquired.

Can they get Winston to stop throwing picks though, or at least stop throwing as many as he does. He's obviously got talent, but he has no ability to read defenses.

UT this whole Rodgers/Packers beef starting up is going to be a major storyline throughout the season. This very well might be Aaron Rodgers final season in GB and after another mediocre performance by Jimmy G following up, maybe the 49ers make the move next off-season. If the Packers struggle, the end is inevitable. Aaron will blame his lack of weapons and will basically give GB no choice. Bret Favre even says the Packers 'burned their bridge' and that Rodgers will not finish his career in GB. It makes sense to me. They did it to the beloved Bret Favre, why wouldn't they do it with Rodgers?

Well Favre really did it to himself with multiple retirements , they were given no choice at that point because who knew what the fuck the offseason brought year to year. Favre always held his retirement over the heads of Green Bay and even the fans to an extent.
Rodgers is a cantankerous fellow and wasn't going to be okay with this , especially beause he's said he wants to play into his 40's. The front office screwed the pooch on this one but given Rodgers demeanor I could see him going out there and playing lights out this year as fuck you to the guys in the front office who want to replace him.
Still such a stupid draft pick at that position. The single worst one they could have made.

This very well might be Aaron Rodgers final season in GB and after another mediocre performance by Jimmy G following up, maybe the 49ers make the move next off-season. Like I said it's highly unlikely that Rodgers leaves after this season - it's a 17 million cap hit if they do. The front office screwed the pooch on this one but given Rodgers demeanor I could see him going out there and playing lights out this year as fuck you to the guys in the front office who want to replace him. This is really the only reasoning that makes any sense - there was talk about how Rodgers had lost the eye of the tiger (even before the draft) and this could be a read as their attempt to fire him up. It's still a very ambiguous thing to pin your hopes on though. Even worse THEY TRADED UP to get him when literally NO ONE in front of them was interested. Well we have no way of knowing that for sure. Let's not act like because of some questionable decisions the Packers are suddenly a clueless organisation - they must have had some intel that someone was looking to get ahead of them to draft Love.

@admin - I heard that too , from McGinn mainly which I take with a grain of salt considering they do have not the best history together. It would be the only reasoning I can think of though because even a week later it still doesn't make a ton of sense. Rodgers has never threatened or went into an offseason YET without knowing what the future holds. Just pisses me off because it's over a decade before we picked him a single skill position player in the 1st round (15 I think?) and I think we've taken like 1 or 2 receivers in the top three rounds over the last ten years. Something similar to that. It's a joke , and then this year they refuse to draft ANY receivers as sort of a double down on the first round "fuck you" they gave to him. At least we drafted a guy comparable to Kyle Juscyck though. For fucks sake. Here's to hoping Lazard continues to improve , ESB can come back healthy , MVS doesn't continue to only being fast and Kumerow gets some actual playing time because he's better than most our receivers. Also need Sternberger to take the leap (which I do like him a ton) and the new KJ is a rookie sensation at H-Back. Fucking Goot. Fucking Flower.

And I think Rodgers finishes off this season with GB and then the off-season is where things get spicy. ESPECIALLY if GB misses the playoffs because DA BEARS take over.

Andy Dalton to the Cowboys to back up Dak.
Guess Bill is fine with his QBs in New England especially since that was a heavily rumored pick up for them. Him backing up Dak is good in case something happens to Dak. They’ll have a very able backup to take over. I think Dalton will finish the rest of his career as a backup. I don’t see him falling into a starting position again. Whereas I could see Winston getting back a job as a starter eventually.

Don Shula died this morning.
Winningest coach in history and made it to 90. Not too many complaints there.
RIP to one of my dad's favourite people.

Frank Gore signs with the Jets, I swear Gore is signing with AFC East teams. Needs to join Pats to complete the four way here.
How much does Gore have in his tank at this point? I guess he brings veteran leadership here which goes a long way.

I guess he brings veteran leadership here which goes a long way. I was kind of hoping he would stay in Buffalo one more year but oh well. Singletary hopefully learned a lot from him. And our receivers should only improve. And Allen likes to run too. I don’t think they’ll miss him. I can’t see Gore being a game breaker or anything but like you said, veteran leadership is important. Might as well have him for a year and see what he can teach the others.

Is it selfish for me wanting Gore to play forever? Heard it's the first time he's facing the Niners as an ex Niner this upcoming year if there is a season with 49ers@Jets.

Bucs/Saints week 1 is tasty.
Schedule makers really changing things up this year: no Giants/Cowboys week 1, no Titans/Jags TNF.

Jets going to start 0-1 again as we face the Bills for the 3rd STRAIGHT WEEK 1 game....Maybe CJ Moseley won't go down or Frank Gore can spill the beans on that offense. Or we have a kicker that won't be garbage like how Vedvik was.
I hate that the AFC East faces BOTH the NFC and AFC West together, seems ridiculous from a travel standpoint to have 4 West Coast games on a given schedule out of the 16. Glad Jets could get a 2 week timeframe of the Seahawks and Rams games back to back.

Yeah Jets got 2nd toughest schedule behind the Patriots this season.
Easy division win for Buffalo unless Miami has a complete turnaround.

Yeah Jets got 2nd toughest schedule behind the Patriots this season. Easy division win for Buffalo unless Miami has a complete turnaround. Depends on Josh Allen honestly and if the Bills OLine stays strong. Not a shoe in for Buffalo to be honest. Especially since they play the Big Ben led Steelers and AFC Champ appearing Titans as the 2 AFC off games. They didn't upgrade the OLine at any point, not sure what the depth is if someone goes down for them. Either way whoever wins this division is 4th seed and only 1 team is coming out of AFC East for playoffs. Wildcards probably reside in AFC West and maybe AFC North. EDIT: I forgot there is a 7th playoff team, would probably favor AFC South
