Honestly, these 96 hours of fun were such a blur I can't tell if we were catching more or fewer z's than at home... Or some entirely different letter of the alphabet. We did both start to awake-dream at points though. Mine was I kept thinking there was a lidless to-go cup full of hot coffee perched on a cat scratching post in the hospital room that I was afraid of knocking over. Since short term memories no longer form for me, I have zero recollection of what Wife said here awake-dream(s) was (or were).

Half and half. We got a charger smuggled in at some point but had to take turns sharing it. Then between crying and sleeping and stressing there was generally little extra bandwidth for posting.

Honestly, that's what still confuses me about all of this. If it was so serious to send us from radiology to the ER immediately for surgery... why wasn't it serious enough to operate BEFORE starving son for 33 hours!? But maybe that's just stressed-out first-time parent thinking.

Our cat Nibs (aka Sir Humps-a-lot) has been breathing improperly this weekend. At first glance we thought maybe that he'd just bruised his sternum or something, but it hadn't stopped so we finally took the little guy to the vet today. He had a 104 degree fever. They gave us some antibiotics and tested him in fear of him having leukemia. Apparently that's not a concern, so thank god. But they're telling us it could be a mutated feline strain of Covid? Wtf?

Thankfully no issues with his appetite whatsoever, just really lethargic and not his normal humpy self. We've already been down this road with our last male cat who was a runt of the litter and ended up having to be put down because of a heart murmur. Hoping these antibiotics work because I can't stand to see the little dude suffer...

Logan, named after Boston's airport (because what else are you supposed to name cats after!?), gave us a crazy breathing-related scare years ago when he just started shallow panting and then not breathing and his chest inflated as big as a basketball. One 4am trip to the emergency vet later (and God knows what the bill totaled) we learn that he's just asthmatic and that he was having a bad attack. Fortunately he's never had as bad of an attack since, but he'll hack through minor ones from time to time still and give us panic attacks.

Then my baby girl who we got pretty much when we first met had to be put down last March. He got home from a week-long work trip slash vacation and she looked like a skin bag. Lost all this weight, fur looking all fucked, and yellow gums and nose. We knew something was up. Vet trip and just a palpation was all it took for us to be told she's got a massive tumor or something on her liver and should be put down.

Honestly, a scarier and harder moment than son getting taken back into the OR. Maybe because it was my first time dealing with an unexpected death of something I loved and was responsible for? I don't know... All I know is it sucked, and that heartache was heavy. But also didn't want her to suffer.

All that said, here's hoping everything works out alright for your feline. Pussy cats deserve nothing but health and happiness. And to keep this post negative enough to belong here, fuck anyone who doesn't like cats. I

Thank you brother, it's much appreciated and I'm sorry you guys had to go through a similar situation. So sorry about your girl, I can't even imagine. I'm a huge softie when it comes to animals, especially cats. Our other cat Luna is blind in one eye and partially in the other. Honestly we should have it operated but I'm fearful it would do more damage than good at this point. But yeah, I worry about her all the time and with him having a fever I'm even more worried now that she might catch it. If I lost Lulu I'd be devastated. I balled my eyes out at work once just thinking she had ran away (turns out she was hiding in a bag of clothes, the little shit). That cat is basically my shadow and we've raised her since she was a little shitball that climbed through the basement window of my parents house. 

It's honestly the worst part about owning an animal, knowing one day they'll die and that their time with us isn't nearly as long as we'd like it to be. Hoping both of them live as long as my folks cat Mauggie who lasted nearly 20 years before she took off and found somewhere to pass away.

And yes, fuck anyone who doesn't like cats. I know they piss on everything and scratch the hell out of you at times, but it's worth it. Dogs are awesome but they're always wanting to do shit and hardly ever calm down. Cats are equally lazy as me and it buffs out way better as a result.

I literally ripped myself a new asshole while helping bathe son last night.

For anyone that cares, the strata had their AGM last night and they voted down the banning renters thing.

I'm relieved but it just barely got voted down. Like it was only a few votes apart. Mrs RT had a chat with our landlord and he thinks it will come up again, but his wife joined the board last night to keep an eye on the shady president that keeps trying to push bullshit like this through. He held the AGM on short notice right after school started on purpose, because he knew it would be tough for everyone to show up.

I am not going to comment further because some bad things are going to happen to some of our neighbours houses this Halloween. Damn local kids and their mischief.

Anyway, we talked to the BC tenant board and while stratas can kick people out up to a year after changing rental bylaws, they have to honour standing contracts between tenant and landlord. Our landlord is willing to sign whatever lease we want because he's awesome like that, so if this gets brought up again we're just going to sign like a 10 year lease or something. He would let us out early if we wanted to because he would have no problem moving in new tenants or selling the house, so I think we can stay put for as long as we want to.

I lost sleep last night because I did not expect this to get voted down. The way people were talking it seemed sure to go through. How was I going to tell my daughter she wasn't going to transition to middle school with her friends? How was I going to make my son, who just started kindergarten, possibly change schools? How the fuck were we going to find a decent place to live in a city that has less than 1% vacancy in a god damn pandemic?

I don't mind that I am back renting again after owning a house. It has its perks that home ownership doesn't. But God damn it I hate shit like this. My kids don't understand and they pay the price.

Thank goodness we're OK for now.

Glad to hear it worked out, but I would feel 100% as you do.  I might be going through some challenges as a home owner right now, but there were times I felt absolutely helpless as a tenant and other times I was glad to be one.  I really hate how they just lump all renters into one category not realizing you can have shit home owners too. 

If you need some cat poop or sardines for the 'local kids' to put into their dryer vents as a Halloween prank, I'd be glad to send you some. 

One thing I will say is that I still plan to contact local media. I doubt the city paper picks it up but there is a blog/classified website that is very popular in the Okanagan and I could see them being interested, especially because they are the main source for rentals and real estate in the area.

Shady strata president, tries to sneak in a vote last minute, tries to evict tenants during a pandemic that weren't breaking any by laws or causing problems, the last two families to move in as renters in the complex were people of colour...the list goes on.

This might be where you and I disagree. They aren't saying you CAN'T put your lights up. They are saying you can't turn them on until November 12. We don't even put up our Christmas lights until after Nov 11 because of Remembrance Day and it's usually friggin freezing here by then. We actually have a light that shines a poppy and a poppy wreath for our door that goes up Nov 1 and down Nov 12. Remembrance Day already gets overlooked by so many so I don't disagree with that one, I'm only sad that it has to be made a bylaw.   Hopefully you still love me. :love:

I get it. I usually never put up my lights until December anyway. I just see it as an easy way to annoy the strata without breaking any rules.

They were fixing our 4 foundation cracks we found behind the drywall/insulation after we moved in. Guy says 'I've never hit a pipe before usually they aren't that close to the foundation'. Of course you haven't. Of course they aren't. Of course it's just our house. He's dying... Won't hardly move now. I'm flat broke, desparately applying for jobs. Feel absolutely helpless and like a terrible fur parent right now.

We've done everything we can to help him. At this point I just want him to go peacefully cause it breaks my fucking heart seeing him like this. I just took a shot at 12:30 (buddy left the tequila here for me last night, thank god) and I've never done that in my entire life.
