5. The Tree of Life (2011, Terrence Malik) 6. The Apartment (1960, Billy Wilder) 11. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003, Peter Jackson) 15. Blade Runner (1982, Ridley Scott) 19. The Night of the Hunter (1955, Charles Laughton) 21. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982, Steven Spielberg) 27. Three Colours: Blue (1993, Krzysztof Kieslowski)
Strobe already did this justice so I won't add much. It's just a truly beautiful exploration of grief and sadness that completely resonated with me in an incredibly perfect way. I love that it made the list so high, what a real pleasant surprise. 30. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001, Peter Jackson) 43. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939, Frank Capra) 50. In Bruges (2008, Martin McDonagh) 55. Chinatown (Roman Polanski, 1974)
Chinatown feels like this moment in American cinema history where everything changes. The protagonist isn't all that likeable, it feels simultaneously nostalgic and modern, it's dizzying and exciting and even watching today totally holds up. 68. Zodiac (2007, David Fincher) 91. Adaptation (2002, Spike Jonze) 100. Skyfall (2012, Sam Mendes)

Scarface 85.Heat 87.Full Metal Jacket 90.True Lies 98.The Sandlot 99.The Wizard of Oz 100.Big Trouble in Little China
One of the greatest noir films ever made. It punches you right into gut several times throughout, culminating in one of the most vicious downer endings ever. Noah Cross was the hands down #1 villain on my list for a reason, he simply is the biggest pile of filth ever shown on screen, and he 100% gets away with EVERYTHING. There is no satisfaction in it whatsoever either, it literally makes you sick to your stomach. The only reason I think he didn't score higher is not enough people on PW had seen Chinatown. For me he has no competition on a worst villains list.

Chinatown missed my list, it sits at #118.
The midcarders are out of the way, let's get to the real deal.
Top 100! Not featuring The Notebook!

Never heard of Tombstone but it looks fantastic. I will definitely be checking it out. I didn't watch the videos to avoid spoilers, but just the pictures and actors already has me sold.

16. North By Northwest 17. The Seventh Seal 28. Three Colors: Blue 32. Shutter Island 74. Chinatown 79. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 99. The Apartment
I just realized that Chinatown released in '74 and was also my #74. That's pretty nifty. Hard to go wrong with Jack Nicholson. And Polanski, controversy aside, is an amazing director. I don't remember Chinatown as much as The Pianist, which I saw more recently and also made my list, but I remember enough to know it deserved this high spot. I definitely need to give it a second watch though. I first saw it seven years ago.

I would have had Chinatown further down my list - Probably in the 90's. Great film I've rewatched a few times though not necessarily an 'ass planter' for me.

How is The Kid so confident? I put Step Bros as #2 and it barely made it. Did he and another put Notebook as their #1s? Stop it.

Tombstone is so iconic. So many quotable lines and memorable moments. I will say that the older I get the cheesier it gets. It didn’t crack my top 100 but probably would have fallen in my top 200.
Have never seen Chinatown.

I feel like Lionheart has said "it's nowhere near a Top 100 movie" at least 100 times in this thread.

I feel like Lionheart has said "it's nowhere near a Top 100 movie" at least 100 times in this thread. Which is perfect since none of them were part of the top 100!

I feel like Lionheart has said "it's nowhere near a Top 100 movie" at least 100 times in this thread. This thread is a disaster movie. Surprised Chinatown didn't crack PW's collective top 100, even if as #100. Thought we all dug it at least just enough overall as a community for it to be in there. So curious now to see what makes our OFFICIAL 100!

People still put them on their top 100 lists. They deserve to be shamed. My words no doubt have already rendered countless people into such a deep shaming that they immediately began binge watching Korean movies.

Dude I seen your list , easily the worst list I’ve seen in the 500+ lists I’ve ever received. Are you saying that my list is nowhere near a top 100 list? It's #886 out of 891 to be exact. Accounting for the five lists 🤯 put Table 19 on.
