How's that for list synchronicity? Back to back tentpole sequels and two of the most beloved sequels of all time and certainly the 80's. Both directed by James Cameron.

Cable Guy was my #1 in the Stiller countdown.
If I thought it had any chance in this I'd of put it down as well.

The talk that Reservoir Dogs (111) is lower tier Tarantino is shite. Keep your more recent, uneven, overly self-aware, verging on self-indulgent QT films. Dogs is tight and exciting, still feels fresh when you watch it. I'm more than happy to keep my recent QT films. You can have your tight first effort.

1. Good Will Hunting 3. Training Day 4. Oldboy 6. Gladiator 8. Matchstick Men 11. Unforgiven 12. Mr. Smith Goes To Washington 14. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid 15. Silver Linings Playbook 18. Throne of Blood 24. Aliens 25. The Sting 27. Spirited Away 29. Logan 31. Parasite 32. Elf 37. Inside Out 38. The Apartment 39. The Green Mile 40. Beauty and the Beast 43. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 44. In Bruges 46. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 51. The Shining 53. The Prestige 55. Groundhog Day 60. Catch Me If You Can 61. Django Unchained 62. The Conjuring 64. Alien 69. Paranormal Activity 70. No Country For Old Men 72. Tombstone 81. Terminator 2: Judgment Day 84. Wayne's World 86. John Wick 87. Toy Story 3 88. Saw 96. Memento
It's hard to top Alien, but in my opinion, Aliens did it surprisingly easily. A perfect action/sci-fi/thriller film, taking the best parts of the immense original, raising the stakes, expanding the mythos.
Both Terminator 2 and the original Terminator suffer from not having been watched in many years. Maybe with a rewatch both movies could place higher, although perhaps not to the same heights as the Alien films.

The special effects quality of T2 considering when it came out and the SFX of its contemporaries and even movies that followed for years still blows my mind. Kinda similar to Jurassic Park. Such seemingly advanced high quality that they really do feel timeless on rewatches.

Two of the greatest action films of all-time back to back, now THAT'S what I'm talking about.
Honest truth though I prefer the original Terminator due to the more oppressive atmosphere, and the horror like notes the movie has, but T2 is still an absolutely incredible film that showed the world what James Cameron could do with a fully realized budget. T2 also has more human moments than the original Terminator did so when you combine that with the expanded budget,(which led to a new standard in special effects) I completely get why many would rank T2 higher.
Now Aliens on the other hand is easily my favorite of the Alien franchise. It took the foundation Alien laid down and took it to a whole new level. This film turned Ellen Ripley from being a great character to being one of the all-time greatest heroines ever shown on film. The debut of the Alien Queen is to this day is one of the biggest holy shit moments in cinema. The space marine were all very compelling characters and this is the film that really codified the concept. To be perfectly honest it is a better Starship Troopers movie than the ACTUAL Starship Troopers.
T2 is Mt.Rushmore for absolutely everyone involved. Same goes for Aliens, and yes that INCLUDES James Cameron. Terminator, T2, Titanic and Aliens. Avatar can eat a dick.

Well, Aliens and T2 I would have pegged for the top 10. What more can be said? Two of the best sequels of all time even though I prefer the originals to both franchises. Everything more than holds up from each and expand the lore. This is how you do sequels "bigger and better."

Alien and Terminator are sort-of paired in my mind. Classic sci-fi horror original followed up by a bigger sci-fi action sequel. Aliens (187) did not make my list, but T2 (67) did. I can totally understand someone ranking the original or sequel higher for each. 4 great films and the only ones you need to watch from those franchises.
I do find it interesting when people try to argue that the first Terminator isn't a horror film. It is basically a sci-fi sort-of-slasher film for me and Sarah Connor can be considered a final girl of sorts as well. The atmosphere, the music, the final sequence. The way The Terminator is portrayed as a character almost couldn't be more horror. I can why people would say sci-fi thriller, but I don't think people would find calling T1 a horror film controversial if no sequels had ever been made. As a comparison, I would not quite class Predator as a horror film, but I could be convinced to consider it as such. There are certainly horror elements, the Predator is an alien slasher and I am amused by the idea of Arnie as the final girl.

Dumb and Dumber is good , not making my list good and I do find it a tad overrated when it's considered one of the GOAT comedies of all time but I have no problem watching it on a lazy afternoon.
GOTG on the other hand is spectacular. Such a perfect blend of comedy and action and a movie that I went into with no expectations and fell in love with , and then appreciated it more and more on every viewing. The ultimate rewatchable MCU movie along with a few others and definitive Top Three for me. They did the ragtag bunch of outcasts perfects , cast them perfectly and someone like Drax who could be a nothing character is fully realized with Batista in there.
I also think it's biggest strength is that it can easily standalone apart of the MCU and be just as good and beloved. It's so different in its colors and palette and even one (at least when it was released) , and even going forward you don't NEED the rest of the MCU and the storylines to fully enjoy it like you do some of the others at the top of the MCU.
And that's not even bringing in the soundtrack , which is another things that completely sets it apart. One of the best ever IMO and perfectly flows within the movie.
Top 25 is perfectly good with me. I had it in the teens with only one MCU movie ahead of it , and really all of my Top Three are pretty interchangeable.

I like Dumb and Dumber but 26 is WAY too high for it (even allowing for Ness's #1 rating) It's not even the funniest Farrelly Bros movie, that would be undisputedly Kingpin.
3.The Good The Bad and The Ugly 6.Saving Private Ryan 7.The Terminator 9.Bladerunner 11.City of God 12.Star Wars: A New Hope 13.Unforgiven 14.The Dirty Dozen 15.Raging Bull 16.Raiders of the Lost Ark 17.Terminator 2 18.Aliens 19.Schindler's List 20.The Princess Bride. 22.Blazing Saddles 23.Trading Places 24.Alien 25.Guardians of the Galaxy 26.Die Hard With a Vengeance 27.Logan 34.Training Day 40.Toy Story 43.Man on Fire 44.Return of the Jedi 45.Halloween 49.Taxi Driver 52.Tombstone 53.John Wick 54.Braveheart 55.Gladiator 57.The Avengers 69.Chinatown 72.Seven 73.Boogie Nights 74.Thor:Ragnarok 82.Casablance 84. Scarface 85.Heat 87.Full Metal Jacket 90.True Lies 98.The Sandlot 99.The Wizard of Oz 100.Big Trouble in Little China
GOTG on the other hand is from top to bottom the very best of the MCU, and IMO is the greatest comic book movie ever made. It's the one of the films that on it's face shouldn't have had a prayer of working yet absolutely EVERYTHING works to perfection. It made Chris Pratt a star. and made Batista legit in Hollywood. It even somehow managed to cast top flight talent like Glenn Close, John C. Reily, and Benicio Del Toro in what were essentially bit roles, yet they all played those bit roles to perfection. Also one of the most amazing soundtracks to any film ever.

I forgot about Guardians of the Galaxy in the same way I forgot about Thor: Ragnarok. However GotG might not have made my Top 100. Could be a 100-150 placer. Either way, my third favourite MCU movie and a fantastic entry in the series. Needs a rewatch. Hey UT thought we were doing the Top 25 guessing game, but you're storming into the Top 25 already?!

D&D is a fun flick. I usually use the 'I like it alot' and 'so you're saying there's a chance' quotes from it. The dog mobile friggin kills me especially when they hit that bump and the ears flap. Didn't make my Top 100 though.
GotG would have fallen somewhere between 66-100 for me. Like most of the MCU films Marvel absolutely nailed it with the casting of actors and voice actors. My only nitpick was Ronin. I am a big Ronin the Accuser fan from the comics and their vision for him fell short for me, but everything else totally on point. Highly quotable and re-watchable.

Yeah that’s that best quote from the movie. It’s weird how Ronan is one of the least remembered villains and it doesn’t hurt the movie. Goes to show the power of the cast and heroes though and them coming together was a big enough challenge where they didn’t need a hard boss to fight right away.
