Star Wars was my 13, but not my highest rated from the original trilogy Nor mine. I had Star Wars at #51. Both TESP and RotJ ranked higher.

Also a big meh on Star Wars, I do like episodes 3-6 but they aren't the greatest thing to grace cinema that many fans make it out to be.

The Star Wars hype machine really is something... Your most spot on review. Eternal Sunshine is fantastic , original and completely filled with all kinds of emotions and IMO one of the more realistic and relatable love stories told on screen. Jim Carrey comes out swinging in IMO his best dramatic role but still brings his comedy chops to make some of the concepts really work. Winslett is the best though , and I think this is my favorite performance of hers (even over Titanic). She is just perfect in the movie and it doesn't work without her being such a presence on screen and so charismatic. Made my list in the 40's and I expected it to be much higher on this list so #29 is a bit of a surprise. Mount Rushmores for both leads easily.

I swear at one time in the past Eternal Sunshine would have been Top 5 for PW. People were talking about it the way some posters here are talking about Star Wars. Great film but not great enough to live up to that hype.
The Truman Show is Jim Carrey's best dramatic role. I'm not convinced Eternal Sunshine makes his Mount Rushmore.
The Truman Show, The Mask, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber are all iconic roles with characters/films that permeated pop culture. Maybe you could replace Ace Ventura with Eternal Sunshine.

Considering PW's love for Eternal Sunshine I'm shocked it didn't get a tad bit higher. Stiff competition? Kinda confirms my suspicions going towards the end. Unless a certain movie just made up the numbers each reveal seems less likely.

10. Star Wars- thereallt jTjohncenaGOAT and iron maiden get it. While not my highest ranking Star Wars movie (that would Episode III), this is the one that started it all, and it's one I still rewatch pretty regularly. So many great scenes. So many iconic characters introduced.

You really should , it’s awesome. Great concept fully realized on screen with the screenplay and performances and as I said - something I find totally relatable given an up and down relationship history.

Empire Strikes Back better be top 10. Top 5 or we riot! I wish! Too many weirdo Star Wars haters here though. I'm predicting Empire shows up in the next few spots. Outside the Top 25. Sad. Also, I have this sudden urge to visit Galveston. 🤯 You liar! You really had me going when you wrote Eternal Sunshine takes place in Galveston. Not sure I can ever believe you again. Multiple searches tell me this movie takes place in New York. So disappointed.

I don’t like Truman Show, so I’d have to go Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Eternal Sunshine, and Man on the Moom (though for me Liar, Liar > Dumb & Dumber) I don’t think the Mask would make my top 8 (hmm next four: Lisr Liar, Truman Show, Batman Forever, Bruce Almighty?) Eternal Sunshine was my number three. I just think it has an interesting way of talking about the experience of loving and losing and the value in doing so. The hurt is so crushing it can make you do anything to get rid of it, but a little time and wisdom can show you that it was all worth it in the end for the good times. They get to hear exactly how they’re going to feel about the other person and all the fucked up shit that will make a promising romance whither and they shrug and say let’s try it. Winslet is great in it as the manic pixie character who isn’t in it to be anyone’s manic pixie and Carrey is a revelation as the heartsick Joel. They worked in some good Carrey bits even with trying to hide in parts of his imagination as his adult sized kid self. The directing is top notch, with Gondry using camera tricks in lieu of special effects and the script is probably the most accessible of Kaufman’s, with plenty of weird but relatable stuff going on (It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it, but the Adaptation script is neck and neck for my preferred writing of his) Anyway, like I said earlier this was my first “favorite movie” as an adult and it held the top spot for years. Down a few because it’s not the most rewatchable, but still wonderful.

I enjoy all the Star Wars films. They are the most overrated movies of all time, but solid and good entertainment that makes me a fan.
I can understand being annoyed by the hype but “meh” is certainly a bit harsh.
I think most would enjoy The Mandalorian TV show that is airing its second season now. It is arguably better than most of the movies and very accessible.

I love the opening scene of Star Wars. It throws it's audience into this perilous situation and the entire galaxy's hopes rest with this one android. It then becomes this unlikely story of this young farm boy going on a hero's journey and forming a motley crew. Where it works is that all the characters have really good chemistry together that makes them all charming. Luke on his own comes off as a whiney teenager, but when you throw him into the thick of adventure he suddenly becomes likeable. Leia too could have been this uppity princess who responds to everything with 'why I never' but she's got some of the best quips and holds her own with Solo who maybe the best character of the entire movie. Vader is booked really well as the lead antagonist, not only is he incredibility intimidating but they establish he can kill major characters which gives the movie an emotional heft. It makes the ending scene that more satisfying, with the rebels destroying The Death Star, ending one of the best epics put to the silverscreen.
I didn't vote for it, but it's like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly where I just consider it a staple.
I'm in a similar camp as mike, except I was younger when I saw it and didn't realise just how flawed these characters were. I thought Joel was a reasonable character, now I can see how flawed he is and how the relationship wasn't meant to last but was a significant part of his development and developing a greater lust for life. Clem is complicated and I truly don't feel like we get to know her, rather a projection or a side of her that she's comfortable sharing. She reminds me of the type who is the life of the party, but somebody who is out of her element otherwise.
The dream sequences are really well done and I espcially like how manic and twisted it gets. I like how Kaufman always explores the extremes in his movies and how we get Joel constantly trying to contaminate bad memories with Clem to throw the process off. It gives the movie some stakes and makes the final memory that much sweeter. Again, I think they key is how detailed these memories are and how relatable they are. The post-game where Joel is in the car with David Cross and Jane Adams talking about the trip is just a moment you rarely see in movies but happens all the time in real life.
I wasn't a fan of the Lacuna drama the first time around, but now I think it really holds up and highlights the issues with the process. It's funny because Elijah Wood played a murderous psychopath in Sin City but I found him way creepier as Patrick this guy who goes through people's files and uses the information to sleep with women. I'm not sure who's creepier here, Patrick or Dr. Miezwark who basically roofied his receptionist to save his marriage.
Personally a very important movie for me, since it was the first time I saw movies as something more than entertainment.

Jim Carry's Mt Rushmore is Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, and Me Myself and Irene. I watch Jim Carrey to laugh my ass off, so his dramatic roles can piss off.

Liar Liar, Truman Show, Man on the Moon, Eternal Sunshine, and even Bruce Almighty IMO all have shots.

GB&U is a masterpiece. I enjoy the entire trilogy (that isn't really a trilogy) and part of it is the escalation. A Fistful of Dollars (460) into For a Few Dollars More (160) into The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (15). Each getting bigger and better. Once Upon a Time in the West (55), which won't be turning up here, also made my list.
The talk that Reservoir Dogs (111) is lower tier Tarantino is shite. Keep your more recent, uneven, overly self-aware, verging on self-indulgent QT films. Dogs is tight and exciting, still feels fresh when you watch it.
Star Wars (178) is excellent. RLM/Mr. Plinkett and r/PrequelMemes have made the prequels great to laugh at, but they aren't good. Force Awakens was a solid enough reboot I guess, but Last Jedi was shit, so I haven't bothered with Rise of Skywalker yet. Star Wars works largely because it is simple. Archetype characters in a fun universe that doesn't take itself too seriously. It is a fun adventure romp (the sort Lucas and Spielberg loved which is why they made the Indy films as well) with great visuals, great music and likable characters. It became so big and you have the whole extended universe and everything has a back-story and explanation and yadda yadda. In the first Star Wars, Darth Vader is just a cool and menacing bad guy - he isn't space Jesus. From that simple base, they expanded things well in Empire (143) and made a superior film that also didn't quite make my list. Then Jedi is half a good film because Lucas wanted to sell ewok toys.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (113) was a near-miss. It is due a rewatch one of these days, but it has never felt like a film that wouldn't hold up over time. I don't see it on Carrey's Rushmore though. He just has too many bigger films that are more engrained in pop culture. Even though it is very highly regarded by both critics and the general public who have seen it, I can't see it beating out all of Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, The Truman Show or Bruce Almighty (I'm not a fan, but that film was very big and people in general seem to like it a lot) That 1994 was pretty incredible for Carrey. Ventura in Feb, Mask in July and D&D in December. What an explosion into being a mega-star.

The Cable Guy (288) is great and my favourite Carrey film, narrowly beating out Dumb and Dumber (298). But it is a million miles away from his Rushmore. It would be on the opposite one. If you said to someone "name a Jim Carrey flop", that's what they are saying. He was on top of the world, those three in 1994, then Batman Forever and AV2 in 1995. It may have still made money, because enough people will go to the new Carrey film even if reviews and word of mouth are negative, but it made $250m and $150m less than Mask and D&D respectively with double the budget, that extra budget basically being Carrey's record-breaking fee for the film. Then straight after Liar Liar and Truman Show were also hits. It is fantastic, his misunderstood film, now cult classic. Not a Rushmore film.
It might also be my favourite Stiller performance. That and Happy Gilmore. I'm not the biggest Stiller fan. I don't want him as a lead. But give me him in those two small roles with minimal lines and actions, which he nails. Perfect.
