Pretty crazy that despite having some form of lung illness, he still went out there in this COVID era and began performing practically weekly until the Dog Kettle match with Cody. He was probably out there on a mission to prove Vince and Co. wrong.

Unbelievable. This one hit me hard.
Brodie Lee had an undeniable presence as a big man. As we all saw in his AEW run, he was incredibly intelligent, creative and well-spoken. Yet in WWE he convincingly played a deranged cult follower. That wild beard and especially that maniacal, distant look in his eyes. Fantastic character worker.
Great in the ring too. His big man offense was fantastic. He added a little extra to his big boot, his lariats, his powerbombs, to make them look that more devastating. Used his size and surprising speed very effectively.
RIP.

Bray Wyatt posted a comment on Instagram. Looks like Saturday appears to be an in-joke that Brodie Lee/Luke Harper had with the boys.

Damn dude I was really hoping this was one of those crazy gif captions.
Loved him in Chikara and it never really felt like he was properly used anywhere else until he got signed and then people were begging for a singles. Had high hopes when he dumped... was it Ziggler with an innocent "I'm a team player". Don't really follow AEW but was glad he debuted. Damn this is insane.

Damn. Just a shocking death to see, at such a young age. I loved watching Brodie wrestle, and I'll miss him.
RIP Brodie.

It started as a countdown till his WWE contract ended and it was eventually going to pay off so he kept doing it until the Dog Collar match.

WOW, I am at a loss for words. When I started watching indy wrestling Brodie Lee, was a wrestler I liked instantly. Any match I could find, I watched. Brodie was such a talented guy. He did such a good job of combining athleticism, power, viciousness while looking like a psychopath. I'm glad he got his chance to shine. RIP Brodie, you will be missed.

Going to be a heartbreaking show. Guys like Orange, Kingston, Uno, Mox and others go back over a decade with Brodie.
Know this death impacted people deep when WWE did a tribute too. Cannot really remember a time when a tribute was done for a competitor.
Wonder if the Dark Order goes on after this. Will not be the same without Brodie and there are few who can replace him.

So yeah, rewatching this and Lee mentions quickly he was having health issues getting tired fast.
Shortly after this he would be hospitalized.

This was crazy to hear about. Hearing the stories about how he was as a father, a locker room guy, it's obviously tragic beyond belief.
He was a guy that came onto the scene when my interest in WWE was waning so I don't have a lot of insight on him, but I will say that I was always surprised Vince didn't love him. A huge guy that could move like that, with a unique look, a serviceable promo, pretty much everything Vince liked. Vince seemed more intent on trying to push Rowan who was greener than a football field compared to Brodie. Never got it.

Todd apparently Vince was put off by him because he couldn't do a convincing southern accent. I don't know where I read that but that was enough to not push him.

So yeah, rewatching this and Lee mentions quickly he was having health issues getting tired fast. Shortly after this he would be hospitalized. Been reading more and more comments from people that think he did in fact have lung cancer and it just showed itself way late. And judging by the stories it's more common than you'd think. Tons of stories like "my mom was a nurse and fit as a fiddle. Had chest pains one day and a month later she was dead. Stage 4 lung cancer." Cancer can be weird like that and go undetected depending where it is. My dad thought he had a sore back from working on our house. When it didn't go away he got checked. The hospital was so shocked by how far his cancer had progressed they wouldn't let him leave. He spent almost a month in treatment before he could go home. It had spread through most of his vital organs. Then it cleared up, he was fine for almost a year (though had to continue some treatments and screenings from home), then he got sick one day and had a seizure. 10 days later he was gone. Went to the hospital and never came back.

Could have also been something rare. His wife said he was at the Mayo Clinic, which is the top tier hospital for lung stuff. Not really where you go for your first stop with stuff like COVID around.
My money would be on a pulmonary embolism. Once they find this you are kept in the hospital until you get well or die. Lost a cat to this and after the first sign he was sick, he went from healthy to dead in a month. They are extremely hard to treat in some cases, which would explain the Mayo Clinic as well.

Erick Rowan showing up was amazing. Never expected that. I hope he gets signed and joins Dark Order.
Dark Order doesn't need a leader anymore. Or at least for a long, long time.

I give AEW loads of flack but they really handled that extremely well and they as a promotion have a lot of heart, it may never be my cup of tea all the time but they did really well here. The tribute at the end was great, bunch of WWE stars in those pictures, doesn't matter at all about "competition", it was all pure love and a giveback to someone well liked by all in the wrestling community.
One of their best shows, and they even did some continued storylines too like Sting vs Team TAZ, Thunder Rosa vs Baker etc. Just a job well done by AEW. I usually watch NXT over AEW as I find it to be the better product but tonight I was all in with AEW and they really did a bang up job and they stepped up from the amateurs even if for one night and looked class. Well done Tony Khan.

And in a nice final touch to the evening, Tony Khan announced on Twitter that he bought the rights to the song they used in the final Brodie video ("Ol' 55" by Tom Waits) in perpetuity, so that the tribute and memory can last forever.
