The Gambler making Randy Starr go bust Great Moments In Wrestling History: Foley wins the WWF Championship. Sandman returns to ECW. The Gambler wins! Look how happy he is! Adam Bomb tries throwing Tom Prichard through the mat with a textbook bodyslam. Haven't seen a bounce like this since my wrestling figure days The Mountie hits young RVD with a BOBCORE special so textbook it got the 1-2-3

Will need to get an official PW Textbook going. Weird thought was a scoop slam just a attitude era version of the bodyslam? @slam wasn't edgy enough? Or is it a different move? I always thought calling it a bodyslam was a little more "old school" and classy like when it was the Olympic Slam and not the Angle Slam. Also is it always the Angle Lock? Or only transitions from a regular ankle lock with the grapevine? Grapevine = on the mat, wrestling clinic from the gold medalist. Also that looks so much better than any Judas Effect (granted only a few) I've seen.

Or only transitions from a regular ankle lock with the grapevine? Grapevine = on the mat, wrestling clinic from the gold medalist. Also that looks so much better than any Judas Effect (granted only a few) I've seen. As I understand it, all scoop slams are body slams. Just like all powerslams and press slams are body slams. Even a spinebuster is a body slam, or a Samoan drop, although we don't think of them as such, but it's picking someone's BODY up and SLAMming it on the mat, all the same (until you target the neck, then it becomes a piledriver variation). Basically, body slam is the parent giving birth to many variations, the scoop slam just incorrectly gets used interchangeably with body slam. I do this. We all do this. Hogan "body slamming" Andre was engrained in all our brains, and it's true, he did body slam him, but to be more specific, Hogan scoop slammed Andre the Giant. I assume the interchangeability between body slam and scoop slam is the scoop slam was the first body slam, so it didn't have to be differentiated yet. It was just called the body slam, originally. Then more variations happened, scoop slam was coined, but wrestling culture was so used to the scoop slam being called a body slam that it kept being called that to the point that we still use it interchangeably generations later. To get really semantic, the scoop part is simply the aspect that reaches between the legs to hoist up. So, an Undertaker Tombstone Piledriver, he's scooping his opponent up, before he piledrives him. The way Junior/Cruiserweights tend to do it, picking up at the opponent's waist, they're just lifting or hoisting (or sometimes gutwrenching), before piledriving. This is why most of the generically called "body slams" are really scoop slams, it almost always begins lifting between the legs with a scoop.

Not a wrestling gif, but what kind of monster would object to a sumo wrestler executing the judo version of a Russian Leg Sweep?

Have become fascinated with the mechanics of Muta/Tajiri mist spots; where they get it (usually from the referee, best Muta one is he got it from a Japanese ringside photographer during an '80s Lex Luger match), when and how long it's in their mouth before deploying (sometimes, a pretty long time). Tajiri got his green mist outside the ring from Little Naitch (clumsy handoff caught on camera) a minute before this spot, but then does a backflip off the top rope with it in his mouth(!) before spraying it for the finish. He's so fucking cool.

Body slam just feels like RASSLIN' to me and in a good way. Like it feels like it belongs in the old school era. I know we've touched on the scoop before and I refuse to believe anything but a modernized name for such a simple move. Yes or no on Rock doing it for the set up before the spine on the pine became all the rage? Is WM18 the most high profile use of the AA spine? Coulda easily fucked that up. If that was the only time you sees it... damn fine choice. On another level... did wrestling CHANGE for you when you started noticing the little things? Like it's easy when it's something blatant like putting your hands up for a chair but looking out for the hands to take the bump... I think that's when the love sorta died for me.
Cuz it's the gif thread
Dude imagine in that final balance that Eddy rolled over into a bridge.
On a related note... nah better just make 12 threads rather than making every thread the random topic generator.

Ask a parent or grandparent to name a pro wrestling move they're likely to say bodyslam whether or not they ever watched wrestling. It's just something older people know. Trust me. Yeah, I think WM 18 is the most high profile use of the Double A Spinebuster. Best one too, though I know some people do favor the one he hit on Michaels at Survivor Series 88.

Man, RVD was such a great bumper. He makes that sunset flip powerbomb look more impactful than a high speed car wreck (he does the same whiplash effect off the same move at Hardcore Heaven 99, only going into a table onto the fucking floor!). And when he'd get air off taking a DDT making it look like he got spiked like a fucking cartoon character, few things have ever been cooler. "Over the top" bumping is usually strictly comedic, seldom does it make the move look like it hurts more, but that made it look like it hurt more. RVD rocks, that's all there is to it.

To add to some RVD love, I love that someone added Rock doing his taunt to his wikipedia page. Been like that for years. Wore jorts recreationally. That spinner belt gif. Overselling his own move. Acknowledging the water spit. HBK eyes. RVD was cool.

Quite familiar with this, Animal talks about it in his book, they were just laying out fans left and right trying to get back to the locker room. It's also brought up frequently in interviews: Meanwhile, Sabu in FMW

Everyone here knows I'm a Scott Norton Guy. A quick search reveals two mentions (on Nu PW alone) of Norton first getting over with me way back in '93 when he threw the hardest clothesline of my youth. At long last here it is...

90% of my Norton knowledge comes from this thread. So if nothing else it got him on my radar. Fun Fact (cringe) about Norton I learned while writing this post... he just narrowly misses (as of 10-12-23) the top 20 in terms of days as IWGP Heavy. That's something.

The Gas Mask is so blatantly Funaki doing all the move, that kills it more than the goofy setup position.
