I'm throwing a flag on this thread. “Everybody’s going to criticize no matter what,” Rosa said. “Even on Wednesday, people were criticizing. ‘Why are you guys, why? It’s so much blood. Why is it so much, why are you so violent? Why is this? Why is that?’ It’s like, people are programmed a certain way and they have been programmed for professional wrestling for decades to be a certain way because of how things have been handled before. “I can tell you, I read about me bringing the Mariachi and I remember Brock Lesnar making fun of Eddie Guerrero with that. And that hurts because they were making fun of my culture before. And on Wednesday, I represented our culture properly; with honor and with respect. Because people were, ‘oh, Mariachi, fun. Like, let’s make fun of Mexicans.’ “It’s the same with women. People used to make fun of us all the time. We used to be the popcorn match all the time because that was how people have been programmed for so long. Not anymore. We’re working really, really hard guys. You guys can criticize us all you want, but we’re working really hard in every single company, I feel, because we’re changing things little by little. “And I tell you, by taking that to a next level, I run a women’s promotion on purpose. So people can see we’re not a popcorn match. Every single match is a banger, you know? And I have one exhibition match and that’s a men’s match on purpose, you know? So like I said, give us time, it’s going to happen.” www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/03/thunder-rosa-responds-to-criticisms-of-aew-womens-title-match/Thunder was talking about online criticism of her match and brought up how fans were making fun of the Mariachi entrance like it was the Brock Lesnar segment. Of course she's entitled to feel upset because that's her culture.

It's interesting that someone who previously stated she didn't watch WWE, nor started watching wrestling at all until her mid 20's found something that happened in a promotion she didn't watch, when she 17 suddenly offensive to her culture. So, she's cherry picked a moment in time from nearly 2 decades ago to reference on the eve of the biggest match in wrestling this year. She could have mentioned how WWE used a mariachi band for Almas' entrance as NXT Champion at Takeover:Philadelphia... “I didn’t really like WWE. It was too fake for me,” Rosa added. “I remember my cousin used to watch WWE when The Rock and Steve Austin were there . John Cena used to wear the big clock, and I was like, ‘What is this ridiculousness that you’re saying to watch?’ I was like, ‘This is so stupid. I’m sorry, it’s so stupid, and when I started watching it, it was around 2007, but it was TNA and it was the Knockout Division and I fell in love with it. Sure, but the point wasn't 'fed bad' it was about fans being overly critical and making false comparisons. If anything you keep proving that point.

I could see somebody posting this in some Twitter thread, her coming across it and jumping to her own conclusions.
Also if she was a hardcore fan, the Mexicools and Kerwin White were obviously way more racist.

How is that a false comparison? She complained about the Mariachi segment then days later she was in a green card angle. This shows to me that she doesn't really care about and is just soapboxing. To me it is very much Fed Bad.

I'd argue that making fun of somebody's culture that there proud of isn't the same as being anti-immigrant.

Yeah JBL really played on racial tensions to the point where he lost his job at FOX for doing the Nazi Salute and Goose Step. Still, I'd give it to the Mexicools who were three extremely talented performers reduced to a stereotypical gimmick that I'm pretty sure you were supposed to find funny and entertaining. Whereas JBL was obviously trying to be deplorable during a really edgy time.

The Mexicools were babyfaces so that is much worse. Brock and Nyla were using Mexican stereotypes to get over as heels and get sympathy on the Mexican babyfaces. I'm not saying it's right but it's a different thing entirely.

I honestly couldn't remember if the Mexicools were heels or babyfaces. They were so dead in the water with me after they came out on the ride-on lawnmowers I never kept up. Supposedly they were both at various points.
As an aside, I think Nyla is an awful first defence for Thunder Rosa. Not only is she a sub-par talent, but they ran the exact same storyline last year when they had Nyla crash Britt Baker's title celebration. It's just really lazy booking that will get a pass from fans but it'll do nothing for Rosa who should have had a hot start. There's so many different options - if you want to play it incredibly safe aka TK style - Rosa vs. Deeb. Spice pick? Title Unification vs. Jade Cargill or vs. Paige Van Zant and start her off hot.
Speaking of diversity, Scorpio Sky's whole run seems like an acknowledgement from TK they could do better, especially given how poorly set-up it was. In fact, it's even worse now that Guevara defiled the championship.

Thank you all for this continued back and forth regarding what Thunderrr Rosa apparently said.
Since she's not anti-Brock per se, nor specifically trying to besmirch him, I'm back to being good with her. Not gonna lie... That ol' #NWAGirrrlPowerrr crush on her from a couple years back is still strong enough, I'd still love to see dem maracas pequeñas at some point.
I also feel like Thunderrr Rosa vs. Brock Lesnar might've just registered as one of my handful of intergender dream matches.
Lastly, Fed Bad sounds like a pro wrestling character from Homestar Runner.

In fact, it's even worse now that Guevara defiled the championship. The AEW women's division booking seems to have a very low satisfaction rate even among hardcore AEW fans. It feels like it just doesn't suit Tony Khan's booking style. Tony Khan takes acts that are over and allows them creative freedom to play off one another to get results. He can't do that with the AEW women because a lot of them came in with very little exposure even on the independent circuit, so it has to be built from scratch and that is much, much harder. I think he could do with some help not named Kenny Omega. As for Sky, I still can't believe what they did to him the first time around. He won a ladder match by grabbing a literal brass ring and was on Dark the following week. It felt like a rib. Hopefully they give him a bit more of a chance this time although I will say he does little for me personally.

Think Tony is still unsure what to do with the women's division. Since he took it over from Kenny things have gotten better, but still vision. Basically just round robin style feuds with the people on top with people getting lost easily if they are not involved in that circle of matches. The girls themselves are adjusting ok to being thrown into matches on TV when they are not ready for them, but we need some focus.
Do not like Sky really, never have. He is a good guy to have the belt though. Can run the lower card guys at him to get them exposure. His 20 years of experience will help them showcase what they got.
Wish they did this with the women's division and gave Deeb the lesser title. Then she can still dominate them, but in explosive finishes rather than just squash them totally.

The argument would be that they're trying to grow the division as a whole and on Dynamite we saw a lot of progression for the women's roster with Julia Hart's erratic behaviour at ring-side, Tay Conti calling out Paige Van Zant, Kris Statlander confronting Leyla Hirsch and the set-up for Jade Cargill's 30th win against a mystery opponent. On top of that Hikaru Shida-Serena Deeb are in the midst of having one of the best feuds of the year, so in this case Nyla Rose was the right opponent, especially after she beat Ruby Soho recently* on Dynamite. With more exciting talent set to join AEW in the future and talent like Britt, Jamie Hayter, Riho, Ruby, AQA etc. they're confident they'll have the best women's division after a trying year with injuries, lockdowns and ungrateful non-talents. *Recently being seven weeks ago. The argument would also be that Britt Baker & Rosa was well-received online and noted wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer gave it **** (only 5.86 on CageMatch though...which TK has admitted to using as a source for feedback).

BACKSTAGE HEAT BETWEEN TONY KHAN & TOP AEW STAR AFTER RECENT INTERVIEW
During an interview with Ariel Helwani, AEW Superstar MJF showed interest in signing with WWE when his contract with All Elite Wrestling expires in 2024.
Below are the highlights:
On his contract situation with AEW:
“So when you’re as talented, as over, and as much of a draw as me, if I want to I can bite off Tony Khan’s fingers. He knows where his bread is buttered.
And if that offends somebody in the locker room, which I know it does, oh well, cry about it. Get more over than me. Oh wait, that’s right, you can’t. Because I’m literally the best talker in the business, and one of the best wrestlers in the history of the business bell to bell.
Because I don’t just spam moves like I’m in a video game, I make people feel something because I’m going out there to win. I’m not going out there to show off.
I’m not going out there to try and make sure that I get all these people talking about my star ratings. No.
If that happens and it’s a by-product of what I do, fantastic. But I didn’t get into this business to hit moves. I got into this business to make money. That’s why I got into this business.
So that’s why I’m not afraid to talk about when my contract is up, January 1st, 2024, and I’m not afraid to stir that pot.”
On interest in him from WWE:
“Again, I know for a fact. It’s already been leaked several times. And even if it wasn’t leaked, I would have known. But legally, I cannot discuss why.”
On whether he will stay in AEW or sign with WWE in 2024:
“I will be wherever the money is. I am leaning, but I can’t say which way, but I’m certainly leaning. There is a frontrunner, and I’m not quite sure it’s the one people would expect, but yes, there is a frontrunner.”
According to Fightful Select, AEW President Tony Khan wasn’t happy with what MJF said in the above interview and they had a heated argument:
“Tony Khan and MJF had a discussion this past weekend that was said to have left both men frustrated.

Did you really just post a MJF interview as a sign of real heat? You realize he stays in character for these right?
Reports are already claiming this issue was settled, and basically made it seem like it was a non-issue made up dirt sheets who reported an MJF interview in character as backstage news.
Fact is, WWE passed on him once. And MJF remembers this. How WWE treats Cody will determine if he gives them a shot or not though. Cody was the one who told him that WWE would not let him be himself, which is why he said he signed with AEW instead. WWE does not easily give up creative control for people and MJF is not likely to be where they start doing it again.

No MJF is fucking notorious for not breaking keyfabe. It drives reporters fucking crazy as he basically just promos at them. I watched the interview, and yeah, he was in character. Can we maybe try to talk about how he said the matches were real?
This is a hilarious one of MJF in character interview.

The difference between MJF then, " when WWE past on him " and now... MJF is a star now. He wasn't then. He wasn't a star 3 years ago.
Cue the " he had achieved significant... " no, he didn't. He wasn't a star.
Kayfabe or not, the point is, highest bid might/will likely win. And that's likely a conversion happening in real life behind the scenes. And he'd be idiotic to dismiss a significant offer from WWE, because of some perceived loyalty to AEW.
Good on him for stirring the pot. If AEW offers him a similar deal to what he started on, it would almost be insulting considering he's a bigger a star now. And similarly, the Brit Bakers of the world should be entertaining offers from WWE, so they can at least ensure AEW is paying them everything they're worth.
This is where TNA feel apart, particularly with AJ - offering him significantly less than what he was worth... how'd that work out?

Will not be the highest bid winning though. That was keyfabe. WWE offered him more than AEW and he signed with AEW. MFJ claims he does everything for money in his interviews. MTF however cares about his character and his creative freedom.

MTF however cares about his character and his creative freedom. He also cares about making a career away from wrestling, the Jericho and MJF acapella scene furthers that. WWE offers a better shot for him to have a Miz like career. He is entertainment first, wrestling second IMHO. If he's given a choice, he'd rather be in Hollywood or on TV over wrestling in 10 years.

It may offer that shot. It could also result in him sitting in catering for 3 years then getting released. Likely will take more than just a contract to get him to jump. Will need at least Cody to be successful. Cody fails in WWE again, sends him a sign to stay in AEW. But even then, he is surrounded by people who all had contracts with WWE that WWE either terminated early or were unhappy with and terminated themselves. Not sure he will trust anything WWE says at this point, even if it is in writing since WWE reserves the right to terminate the contracts at will.

It all will likely come down to how they use Cody. Cody tells him to come to WWE, he will likely go to WWE. Miz has made a 15 year career of doing what MJF is doing excluding having a MA rating. LA Knight is doing well in his 2nd run in WWE. Unless he's champion for AEW at the time of contract discussion, I think he will consider WWE regardless of what Cody is doing. Cody cares about his entertainment career too, it showed by what he was doing by the tail end of his AEW days. He will use WWE as a springboard to do comic book stuff or whatever he wants.
