Pepsi Plunge. CM Punk pulling everything out to pick up the win. and his 43-year old knees remembering why he doesn't do that move anymore Yeah. I remember when a local kid pulled it out at a show, he was like never again. Was good to see it here though. Loved this match and the fake ending.

I was so disappointed when Wheeler Yuta came out to face Moxley. I hadn't read the news, but I think it's bs when we re-litigate somebody for something that was said 10 years ago and they've since got their act together. I cannot stand the 'gotcha' culture of Pro Wrestling twitter and guys trying to make an impact and ruin the show.
I couldn't get into the match at all, I didn't think they did Danhausen any favours but the post-match promo was great. It reminds me of when Jericho tried to get Moxley into the inner circle, I hope this time they actually play around with the idea because it's way more interesting than anything else.
Outside of the silly blindfold spot which went down like a lead balloon, that was a really fun tag team match and Black/PAC were really good to watch together. I want to see more of that pairing and I think their work was so good that it allowed Pentagon to come in, hit some of his huge big dives and not really hurt the flow of the match. Good stuff and one I can see myself revisiting.
One match I won't be revisiting is MJF-Punk. It was fine, but holy shit 40+ minutes and they set it up for an obvious rematch and damn Punk just about hit every move in his arsenal. With Bryan-Page time just seemed to fly by, while here it felt every bit of it's 40 minute run time because the match really didn't have much heat. Punk dominated the majority of it, to the point where it was comically over the top and whatever heat MJF got was largely during picture in picture so it was completely lost. It was fine but I don't know, it felt like they blew their load.

I think Big Pete nailed it re: Punk/MJF, and why I have to watch it again. I’ll admit, I had a few after work beers and probably enjoyed it more than it deserved, but when the Pepsi Plunge hit I fucking marked and there was no looking back for me. I’ll give it another watch and decide from there. I wish the blindfold spot got a better reception. I was looking forward to it and enjoyed it but I guess the audience didn’t agree. Shame. I thought it was cool. Danhausen seems to be getting into a program with OC which, ok. Fine. Make it good. Danhausen will. I am optimistic. Shame they sacrificed Yuta to further that story though. They should have just done Mox/Kingston vs Best Friends or something then.

I'm looking forward, to Emperor's Dynamite review post, that he usually does. That's really nice of you to say, seriously! Thank you! It also means I'm going to have to watch the whole show to deliver my material. I don't always watch everything. Read some of the thread already, sounds like the Ruby Soho match waa rather eventful

Poor Yuta always just an extra piece to replace someone temporary. Mox beating Kendrick would have been good fuel for Danielson to come after him. Now that had to change the story some.
I don't know what Danhausen does wrestling wise but don't think that the best way to use him for the first/second time.
Stick him with the Gunn Club/Ass Boys first to help them show more personality on air.

I also think during the main event they should have reversed the spots both times the match ended or only used the first one. The first one was a lot better and got a good crowd response. The second one the fans didn't seem to really care.

Reading comments on last night’s show and someone pointed out that PAC already revealed in his last video that he could see, which is why this went over so poorly. I forgot all about that.
You said you were healed, still showed up with the blindfold on, then took it off anyway after a couple moves. So weird.
Either you’re more powerful now because of the blindness, so you’re wrestling with a blindfold on, or you just don’t show up with it on and chalk it up to a cool visual in your promos. It can’t be both. That was dumb.

So this is part of the Black style of symbolic promos. The tarot card PAC was holding in his return promo was Golden Dawn's Justice. Justice is blind, not PAC.
Second level of this metaphor is big more complex. Two people sit in a cave. They see the world only through the shadows reflected on the wall. Black sees with his eyes and speaks of what the shadows mean. PAC does not see the shadows. They have no meaning. All that matters to him is what casts the shadows. By shielding his eyes from the shadows PAC sees the world objectively. Black can speak all he wants about PAC and his mission, but PAC does not care. He will bring Justice to Black and the justice will be objective. He will not damage Black's mind but damage his body instead.
Black's style is not for everyone, but those with a bit of classical occult knowledge eat this shit up as it is a fun puzzle. The downside is if you do not know a symbol the entire thing goes over your head. And for 99% of the fans, I suspect this is happening. Black thinks they will get together and figure it all out. Not fans will not though IMO. Some of the symbols are very weird he picks too.
I mean, how many people picked up the story that he when his eye was injured he was infected by the spirit Ra and now serves as his messenger?

I don’t know why I didn’t pick up on this last night: the false finish in MJF/CM Punk was a callback to CM Punk vs Jimmy Rave back in 2005. ROH 3rd Anniversary show. I watched this match a long time ago and forgot about it.
Video below showing what I’m talking about:

There’s a first for everything but got to disagree with Big Pete’s take on the MJF/Punk main event. The obvious rematch isn’t a bad thing in this case, also - one of the biggest criticisms aimed at AEW is their “one and done” feuds that lack in having more than one match between opponents. The PPV rematch (hopefully a gimmick match) is the way to go. I’d have Punk go over but MJF can still brag he “beat Punk twice in one match in his own hometown”. Maybe have the third and final rubber match way down the line with the title on the line. As for the match, it was a wrestling clinic. I’d have to watch it a second time to see if it holds up to *****, but it’s definitely at least 4 and 3/4. I thought the match had plenty heat, and MJF had a lot of offence. Punk spent the majority of the match selling a body part, and the last section of the match selling a second body part. So it’s not like he dominated the offence. The crowd were obviously well invested, but it’s Punk in Chicago so that’s a given. Psychology and selling were flawless from both. Some really massive memorable moments helped make the match what it was too - Punk busting out the Pepsi Plunge for the first time since 2005 being the main one. That was a huge mark out moment, and entirely unexpected. Speaks volumes how much he thinks of MJF and testament to the exemplary job he did in putting him over. Loved the false finish 15 mins in with the laces choking Punk out, even cooler it was a callback to Punk’s encounter with the late Jimmy Rave. Crowd were all convinced MJF had gotten away with a fast one. Booking was spot on, and the longer story of Wardlow was handled well. I just hope that’s executed very soon after Revolution before it burns out. Finally, wanted to point out that I felt it was JR’s best call in a very long time. He stepped his game up to old levels and helped enhance the story well. Can’t wait for the rematch and for how Punk reacts to his first AEW defeat on the next Dynamite!

Emperor's Dynamite DeconstructionKicking off with Jon Moxley against Brian Kendrick Wheeler Yuta. He's accompanied by Orange Cassidy and Dannhauser. Who is Dannhauser? I don't know. He showed up from under the ring in the middle of Cassidy vs Cole, and suddenly he's a Best Friend. What's he all about? No idea. AEW hasn't explained this to me. Everyone in this thread knows what he's all about, apparently. Enlighten me. Where does he come from? How do you know about him? Here's a pet peeve. Jon Moxley applies an STF. Moxley's finisher is the Bulldog Choke. The STF he applies is pretty much a Bulldog Choke. Two questions come to mind: 1. Why isn't the STF an instant game over like the Bulldog Choke? It's even more deadly because the leg's trapped! 2. Since wrestling logic dictates the STF is a harmless rest hold, and since he can apply an STF so easily, why not just grab the Bulldog Choke which is even easier to apply? Similar to when people with a Rear Naked Choke finisher apply a chinlock as a resthold. The finish is right there!! Moxley with the back scratch. He must have been enjoying his El Phantasmo matches during his time off. Dannhauser with what is actually a pretty effective distraction. The crowd popped, so it must be a thing he does. I feel like everyone's in on the joke except me Brian KendrickWheeler Yuta got massacred, unsurprisingly.
A NEW CHALLENGER APPEARS!!! Danielson came prepared with the microphone in his back pocket. Most intelligent pro-wrestler to ever live. The hypothetical tag team of Danielson and Moxley would be even more overpowered than Darby Allin and Sting. Somehow I don't think Moxley has any interest in this proposal.
As Danielson keeps talking, I realise it's very similar to the promo Jericho cut when he asked Moxley to join the Inner Circle all those years ago. Some smart alec on reddit will have noticed this and made a video or a long Twitter post comparing the promos.
-----------------------
It annoys me when someone gets verbally ripped to shreds like Brandi Rhodes just did, and responds by smirking and no-selling it all. The John Cena syndrome. She's also turning Dan Lambert face by default. Is that really what AEW wants? I mean, Lambert is ripping into himself as much as Brandi. But being a self-aware asshole doesn't make you any better than being an asshole. In fact, doesn't it make you a worse asshole because you don't do anything about it?
This is incredibly cringey. Is Brandi oblivious to how she comes across and why the crowd boos her, or is this some meta-heel game we think that Cody Rhodes is doing? In fact, what even is the point of this segment?
OK, Paige Vanzant is the point. That is actually interesting. Is this going to be Stephanie McMahon vs Ronda Rousey 2.0, or something better?
Brandi Rhodes acting super badass and not backing down from legitimate female MMA fighter. Yeah, I'm getting Stephanie McMahon vibes.
If Paige Vanzant is going to wrestle in AEW, Brandi Rhodes is one of the last choices I would pick as her first opponent.
-----------------------
This whole Andrade-really-thinks-Darby-Allin-is-a-little-kid-who-works-for-Sting shtick is really dumb. WWE dumb.
-----------------------
PAC gave up that ruse way too soon. Yes, it's obvious he can see, but I would have like to see PAC wrestle with the not-really-blindfold for several full matches before he takes it off.
What would have been cooler for a House of Black storyline is for PAC to take the blindfold off to reveal two gaping, raw holes where his eyeballs should be. And he still wrestles as if he can see perfectly. He'd instantly become the biggest draw in pro-wrestling.
Does Black throwing someone into King's powerslam really make the powerslam that more devastating? Doubt it. Is a powerslam King's normal finish? If it isn't, it should be.
-----------------------
Aubrey was very much :suspic: when Vickie practically entered the ring in order to put Rose's foot on the ropes. But why not use your discrection and throw Vickie out?
Yeah the botch looked bad but it's how the react that counts. It would have been awful if they pretended it hit, but Nyla immediately capitalised on the fuck up and won the match. They reacted well.
-----------------------
MJF and CM Punk will have to wait, it's late.

Thank you, I glad someone said that. I hear so many places how cool Dante's Inferno is as a tag finisher. It looks like a poor man's Viking Experience which also is poor tag finisher. And I agree if the powerslam was King's finisher it wouldn't be as bad since Black is launching their opponent into his finisher.

Dante's Inferno to me makes sense. In a normal powerslam you need to exert a lot of energy to get the person off the ground. That energy when they are placed on your shoulder you can now put into the slam itself. Also will have a disorientation effect as the guy who starts the move is the one who finishes it, reducing where you can counter it.
As for why PAC was not blind, it is an example of the weirdness Black does. PAC wore the blindfold Lady Justice style then pulled the Justice tarot card. PAC's promo invokes having a new vision, and gets into the Lady Justice / Justitia symbolism. But Lady Justice is not blind. She wears the eye band to take the actions that she may not be willing to take if she looks into the face of the person she needs to deliver upon to.
Love Black but some of the connections need to be made clearer. The whole Eye of Ra stuff almost no one is picking up on as you really need to have listened to a shoot interview and got the hints it started when his eye was injured in WWE and Church of Ra is a major influence. It is such a great gimmick, that no one will understand until he directly explains it all and the myths I feel like.

Emperor Danhausen mainly wrestled in ROH and Impact and is a comical wrestler. He can handle himself in the ring but isn’t going to blow anyone away. He has teamed with WARHORSE in the past and his gimmick is “very nice, very evil,” meaning he doesn’t want to be so evil that nobody likes him and he doesn’t make “human money” as he puts it. He blew up with internet fans over the past year or so and I think it was because of the pandemic and people spending even more time on the internet. He caught people’s eyes with his youtube channel, going to cons and meet n greets and fucking around with other wrestlers. He’s got some funny videos out there with MJF and CM Punk (or “Pepsi Man” as Danhausen calls him). He also had a video of himself going to A&W after ROH folded and dropping off his resume, thinking it was AEW. That actually got enough traction that A&W threw him some swag and might be sponsoring him. He refers to himself in the third person and does strange things in the ring, such as carrying around a jar of human teeth that he uses as a weapon. His logic is that he can put teeth in people’s mouths instead of tacks because people already have teeth in their mouth and adding more teeth is not against the rules. Also he tries to low blow people before the bell rings, cheat to win, stuff like that. He does a lot of Simpsons references, his theme song is Tequila and he dances like Pee Wee Herman, he’s just weird and goofy and has a good time and a lot of people like him for that.

I’ve seen very little of Danhausen’s matches but of what I have seen, he seems to work better as part of a tag team. I don’t know if that’s why they stuck him with Best Friends for now or what the plan is with him, but he’s good as the mouthpiece of a team that exploits his partner then claims all the glory when they win. He does it in a loveable funny way and not a heelish “fuck this guy” way. It’s kind of funny that he showed up in Orange Cassidy’s match and helped him win, then latched on to the group and OC is so laid back and careless he is just like “whatever this weird guy can hang out with us, I guess.” Danhausen broke his foot at his last ROH show too. As far as I know he’s recovered but they might be easing him in for that reason as well.

Like, your local independent TV station needs someone to emcee the monster marathon, so they got the weather guy to dress up as a vampire and he's GOING FOR IT. Moo-hoo-ha-ha, very nice very evil please stay tuned to the TVhausen

Just watched Punk vs MJF. Seems a divisive mach amongst our viewers. I'm with Big Pete. One match I won't be revisiting is MJF-Punk. It was fine but I don't know, it felt like they blew their load. Agree. It was a long match and it felt longer, even when I skipped through the three picture by picture segments. It's strange because there was nothing wrong with what they did. Punk's selling was phenomenal, there was great psychology, nice pacing, and so on. But something didn't click. I was just bored. Also, MJF rolled out of the ring to avoid a big move far too many times. I get that it's a heel move to kill the fire, but he killed the fire several times too many. All of that for it to end with the same played out heel finish MJF uses to beat everyone. Wardlow, diamond ring punch, pin. What an anticlimax. I spent 40 minutes for that? And it kinda shits all over the actual false finish, which was really well done, where the heel cheated and got caught out. Well, he just cheats again lol. Not going on my MOTY list.

This is literally the first time I've ever seen the guy or even heard his name, but you and CM Punk'd and Lony know all about him judging from posts in this thread. Has he ever been mentioned on PW before?

The best description of Danhausen I've heard (and I don't know much of the guy so I can't corroborate) is that he's the host of Saturday Afternoon Creature Features.
Like, your local independent TV station needs someone to emcee the monster marathon, so they got the weather guy to dress up as a vampire and he's GOING FOR IT. Moo-hoo-ha-ha, very nice very evil please stay tuned to the TVhausen
Lots of Simpson references and doesn't know the guy? Interesting, has anyone seen Michinokudriver and Danhausen during the same time?

Has he ever been mentioned on PW before? A&W is a fast food chain in North America. The joke is he was applying because he thought it was AEW. He fucks up people’s names all the time, either by accident or on purpose to make them mad. I watch his YouTube channel and follow him on twitter. That’s where 95% of my Danhausen knowledge comes from. Also he was a guest on Conan O’Brien’s podcast and explained a lot of his character. One of the only times he’s appeared on camera out of character.

Tony Khan is teasing a big announcement for Dynamite this week.
I wonder what it'll be? New hire? Forbidden door opened? Something about Revolution? Something about the Owen Hart Tournament?
