I wonder if Cody got pouty when he didn't fulfill his vision of wrestling? old school style. Makes me think he loved AEW until his ideas get met with a facepalm.

More info. Cody has been upset about that after he won the title, Tony started to phase away his booking power until he was cut out of the loop entirely. Cody feels booking is in his blood and wanted a much heavier role in booking. Also WWE is only offering Cody a contract. Brandi will not be WWE bound. Wonder did he consider household income may go down if his WWE offer isn't better then both of their AEW contracts combined.

TK proved he's not a total push-over, but I'd be more confident if TK just let their contract expire instead of engaging in a long drawn out negotiation deal. It sounds like TK would have preferred to have kept him, but they couldn't come to an agreement and for all we know Cody is set to return the WWE. If the WWE made Cody an offer that was too good to refuse, I find it difficult to applaud TK - if anything I'd have to give Cody credit for building his profile that high he managed to get the WWE crawling back to him.
Imagine going from Stardust to potentially this. You always negotiate until someone walks away. No reason to shut the door. Not gonna lie, gonna laugh so hard when Cody and Brandi are released for cost cutting in 9 months. We all know Vince also will not be paying him main event money for long. I can understand extending the courtesy of meeting with him, but what's there to discuss? TK is bringing new talent in, he needs to clear up space on the roster and Cody is one of the most expendable.
Again, I'd be a lot more confident in TK's management if he just let the contract expire altogether and negotiations weren't publically drawn out. It suggests to me he would have preferred to keep him but they just couldn't come to terms.

Part of me is still convinced that this is a work, but it would still be cool to hear Smoke and Mirrors live again.

Part of me is still convinced that this is a work, but it would still be cool to hear Smoke and Mirrors live again. Cody struts back in, in 6 months time and goes " got'ya ya dirty marks.. see how smart we are at AEW! " - what's the point? It doesn't achieve anything.. in fact, it would probably make Cody more unlikable. And it wouldn't be heel-heat, it would be a genuine 'WTF, you fucking idiot dweeb' kind of heat. The kind of heat that sees shoes get thrown at heads. Cody is a perfect WWE guy. I've said that before. He's not an AEW kiddo, he's a WWE guy. He's 6'2" 220lb - presents well, dresses well, handsome enough - has a 'Hollywood' look, professional, good interview, good mind for the business, wants to work old-school programs - he's a Miz type. And he doesn't come from that cesspool of independent wrestlers that want to flip and flop for cheap pops - He's WWE trained, TV ready. Good to go. And he's a pompous, arrogant prick - so, double points in Vince's eyes.

You know, before Cody heads back to WWE, he should totally do a GCW show. Imagine the nuclear levels of heat if he showed up and did the Lawyer in ECW stuff, claiming he is better than wrestling in filthy venues for small feds.
And yeah Cody is the perfect fit for WWE. Then again, he spent most of his life being associated with WWE, so it makes sense. And so long as they do not piss him off enough to quit again, he will likely be happy to stay around training or being an agent after he retires in WWE. So do not get why they forced him to stay as Stardust.

What if all of this was an elaborate way for Cody to challenge for the AEW Title, as a company-outsider he would be walking back through the forbidden door and the stipulation would be null and void. God, how smart would the AEW braintrust feel pulling this off.

Reports are talks between WWE and Cody have fizzled out. There's even reports, the entire thing is another AEW smart-mark work that will see Cody return to AEW as part of a predictable ROH angle. But that could also be a work to throw off the scent.
Get it?

Personally though, I am going to imagine Cody met with Vince and Vince told him to get his fucking grease paint. /// Cody's price was likely 4 to 5 million, which is top AEW pay these day. Said it was not so much about the money, but about Cody wanting to book for AEW and Tony saying he could wrestle or book, not both. If the deal fell through with WWE, likely Cody is realizing there is no place for a traditional booker in WWE these days as creative and executive producers mostly replaced them. And Cody does not want to be in creative, and he will never break into the inner circle.

Reports are creative was informed of the change in Cody's status. I believe with that news, that Cody was nearly wrapped up but Tony offered him RoH. Monday should have solid updates on what is going on people are reporting.

Cody should just take a year off and then do whatever he wants. There’s way too much nonsense surrounding his name right now and whatever he does isn’t going to go over well.

Cody has proven why he needs WWE. When given creative freedom, and to the extent - the book, he was able to turn his own fanbase against him by being.. himself. A pompous knob.
Maybe WWE is the best place for him, it may filter out the bullshit that is Cody Rhodes.

News today says that the delay was Cody was offered a second contract that made him pause signing with WWE. Very likely it was AEW offering him RoH. Or maybe CYN got some of that sweet right wing money for him to be the hero the right wing wrestling community needs with his patriotic tattoo <.<

Or maybe CYN got some of that sweet right wing money for him to be the hero the right wing wrestling community needs with his patriotic tattoo <.< All we know is he is trying to decide and has multiple offers. Everything else is speculation at this point. And people keep bringing up the excerpt from the Young Bucks book where they called Cody out for being super indecisive. So for all we know he’s already made up his mind, or there’s one offer that is obviously good and he’s second guessing himself. SRS seems to have all the ins and he’s still saying Cody to WWE. I think Cody to WWE was going to happen, other offers were still on the table, Cody hesitated, and now we’re here where he’s probably still going to WWE but it’s being dragged out because he hasn’t put pen to paper yet.

I just don't understand from Cody's perspective why he would want to leave. He may have to accept less money at AEW, but he gets far more cache working in that promotion and has better networking opportunities. From TK's perspective, I could understand wanting to move on because you're bringing in all these other talents and with Punk/Danielson on the roster you really don't need somebody with Cody's expertise anymore.
Personally I hope he leaves because AEW should cut the fat, but I really don't understand it from Cody's perspective.
Until I hear smoke and mirrors, I'm not buying it.

Well the news from WWE is that creative was to start prepping for his imminent return, then being told to sideline it. To me that says they had Cody locked down they thought, then someone else matched their deal. Only one other wrestling company has that cash so not hard to put the rest together.
And if this all way about Cody wanting to book a fed, WWE will not let him book, so Tony could match WWE and offer him RoH now. The timing fits. Tony seems to want to keep the fed alive, so why not send Cody down and let him truly make a brand as sees fit with the overflow AEW talent Tony is already paying to get them more exposure.

Why not? Because Cody's track record is poor and if history is anything to go by he'll treat it as a vanity project. Why spend even more money on ROH when you could utilise somebody who is under contract to book it for you?

Despite his status in AEW, there's things you just can't / wont achieve with AEW, especially if you're a little bit old-school minded like Cody is. Similarly I'm sure a lot of guys in WCW were likely looking at WWF thinking about Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, etc and knowing you'd never tick those boxes in WCW.
Surely, like everyone in the business - he wants his ' Wrestlemania Moment ' - I certainly can't recall Cody working a high-profile program for Wrestlemania. He's want's to work in front of 80,000 people, he want's those big moments and exposure and the grandeur of the WWE ( which fits his pompous personality ) and all jokes aside about AEW - 'All In' isn't Wrestlemania.
The most recent rumour is Cody is likely working Seth at 'Mania. Potentially Rollins throwing down an open challenge.

PWInsider is confirming that Rhodes signed with WWE about 2 weeks ago. They expect him to debut Wrestlemania weekend and he will be on the Raw brand.
And I could not care less.
