Surprised it took this long for a thread.
This feels like it’s driven by pure ego. Vince can’t stand failure, and he wants to “fix” arguably his biggest one.

Ive been yearning for a spring football league for a long time, hope this actually works and they have a plan for this to develop into something long term. They have a lot of mistakes to learn from, it could work.

Also, if he wants the league to work, he should put some franchises into cities that don't have pro-football teams (For example, Orlando, San Antonio, and St. Louis).

My favorite part of this is the conspiracy theory that this is part of a plan with President Trump. Immediately after Vince did the stuff with trademarks came the “They protest the flag and their pansies with too many flags” routine from Trump.
I’d be curious if Vince was really going to go XFL violent style again after all the injuries and this much further down the road on concussion research, etc. I can’t imagine a subpar league like the first XFL making it now and I really can’t imagine he’s going to fix the flaws.

Vince could always buy the Calgary Hitmen name, and then stiff the Hart family again for old time's sake.

I was somewhat entertained as a 19-20 year old during the first run. I remember the opening "coin toss" vividly with the poor guy separating his shoulder on the ball race. What a great start.
I'd have to check out XFL 2. For pure curiosity sake. Nothing more...haha

They need to come up with some better team names, the New York/New Jersey thing was stupid to me, are these like the same town, are you representing New York or New Jersey? Both? Pick a side and leave names like that in Soccer.
I remember Rad made an awesome Texas Rattlesnakes uniform/helmet in one of those threads he did on the old PW, shit was dope as hell, they need to hire that dude.
I always liked the brand and the name XFL, I thought it was very cool and I still think the league could have gotten better over time. Their biggest mistake with the OG XFL was pairing it with the worst possible network and expecting it to take off and produce NFL numbers right at the beginning, what where they really thinking putting this on NBC Sports with Bob Costas? Today you have much more cable networks that the XFL would fit perfectly with and a higher demand for live sports entertainment it seems.
They need to start off small and humble and not try to be some type of competition to the NFL. They need to fancy themselves as a springtime developmental league for potential future NFL stars, an NXT for the NFL. They need to make player safety priority #1 right from the start as well. I think there is potential in the XFL brand if they try to go with humble beginnings and let it develop over the span of a few years. If they try to go all out and expect a big overnight success this will flop hard again. We need a football league that runs from February to May, something a little different from the NFL.
Also what seemed to doom the original XFL from the beginning was that there were no individual team owners, every single team in the league was owned by the league itself. That was never going to work, they need a network of ownership each giving their respective team the TLC to get it over in it's market.
Change some of the rules up, come up with some fresh teams, drop all the cartoon WWF shit they tried to do, start small, and this could work.

I’d try some really random stuff if I were setting up a league to try to compete long term with the NFL to try to get in front of their biggest problems. Get Nowinski to provide ideas about concussion solutions and do whatever he suggests, even if he suggests helmetless football I’d do it as a marketing move to not just fans but athletes with a “Heh want to leave not fucked up? Play in our league.” message. Tell everyone they have to stand for the pledge (blech but good for them). No instant replay. Let more go unpenalized, etc.
But Vince is Vince. He’s gonna try to go bigger and stronger and it’s going to fuck up.

A Spring time football war between two rival leagues, maybe they will merge together down the road and create a super-Spring time football league. Fuck all this college basketball, bunch of pre-pubescent boys running back and forth, these kids look like they only have to shave once a week, if they can even grow any facial hair at all. Give me some fucking neck beard mud and guts football from late February through April and I'll be happier than a dog with 2 dicks. Whichever league puts a team in Houston will have my full support 100%.

Oliver Luck was just announced as CEO of the XFL. That’s a big fucking move for the organization. Instant credibility.

Well they're doing the complete opposite of what everyone thought would be a good idea, and running mostly in cities that already have NFL teams:
East Rutherford (MetLife Stadium) Arlington (Globe Life Park) Houston (TDECU Stadium) Los Angeles (Stubhub Center) St. Louis (The Dome) Seattle (Centurylink Field) Tampa (Raymond James) Washington D.C. (Audi Field)
I'm actually looking forward to the AAF who seem to have things much more straightened out - starting straight after the NFL season ends to help everyone over their post-Super Bowl hangover, running largely in non-NFL cities, and a few fun names like Josh Johnson and Christian Hackenberg.

It's funny. In 2001, the XFL put a team in L.A., since they had no NFL team there anymore. Now in 2020, St. Louis, the city that stripped L.A. of a team, and then lost it back to them, gets an XFL team.

Just seen the teams for the other league this is awesome. I get the impression that the grand design for all this is the two leagues merging after a few years.

And by next year he means February. I’m leading the PW charge to be all over it - it seems like the games are going to be easily accessible to watch through CBS and the league app, should be great! I think we should divide up the teams so we are supporting one each.

And what about the FFL AKA Freedom Football League.
Apparently, Ricky Williams and Terrell Owens are some of the big names involved in this and they got a bunch of investors involved as well.
