Haven't combed through the whole thing yet but it starts with a bang in the Hogan/Genius SNME sports entertainment classic and ends with a bang in Bret/Austin @ WM 13. So at the very least they've got their bookends covered.

Two star solidifying/making performances, a hugely influential match on for better or worse current wrestling and the most replayed bump in wrestling history. All hugely important in WWF lore.

Initial hot takes...

Hogan, and 80s WWF in general, are much more highly regarded nowadays than they were from the late 90s through the 2000s. Steamboat/Savage went from the GOAT to a GOAT contender during the Bret/Shawn era to merely "good for its time" back up to the #3 match in WWE history. Warrior/Hogan at #30(!) is a wee bit high even for me, but it's far closer to the 30th best match in WWE history than a DUD. Hogan/Andre from WM 3 at #32 just goes to show how much tastes have changed. That match was loathed back in the day. The (awesome) Hogan/Andre Main Event match also got votes! I still just can't with 80s Bob Backlund though.

Benoit's stock has predictably plummeted. The Angle match from RR 03 and WM 20 Triple Threat would have been Top 10 locks once upon a time. Now they're all the way down to #45 and #51 with every other once classic Benoit match also experiencing a precipitous drop.

Some day I really need to get in on one of these things...

Warrior/Hogan at 30 is a joke, it should be a staple of the top 10.

Hogan/Andre @ WM3 will for me always be the greatest WWF match in history. I hope the trend continues where people step back and look and the importance and spectacle of matches instead of whether the guys know a wrist lock from a wrist watch.

Found it lol. Did a Top 100 WWF/E Matches of the 2000s (compiled sometime after Summerslam 2008) +20 more written in the margins that I assume were late cuts and Top 75 WWF Matches of the 80s & 90s. The 2000s list is pretty basic. 80s & 90s one too, though at least that one does get interesting towards the end. May post them tomorrow if I have time and am in the mood.

Verdict- Those yayhoos don't appreciate Angle/Benoit CLASSICS...and great Smackdown matches in general given the low finishes of many of my highly ranked SD matches.

Other Thoughts

The cream does indeed rise to the top. 28 of my top 31, and 42 of my top 50 made their overall Top 100. Numbers probably go even higher if you take out post-2008 matches that didn't exist yet when I made this list. There's less overlap after that with only 12 of my final 50 making the overall Top 100, while all 6 of my matches to get shut out were in the bottom 28 on my own list. 

*Still might post my 80s/90s and 2000s lists just for fun.

Agreed, Hogan VS Andre is as perfect of an example as you can get as to what pro wrestling is.

Honestly feel like I could be conflating their matches at this point and I prefer to remember it that way. I like the idea of one guy coming up with the perfect gameplan to shut down Cena, Cena responds and shows he does in fact have a Plan B but the other guy is so 'on' he still holds his own before capitilising on the drama that was unfolding outside.

The only thing I actually remember about the match is Cena hitting an Emerald Flowsion and Punk kissing Vince goodbye on the barricade which was a 5* spot on it's own.

Looking back I do recall this basically being a love letter to the IWC. DB and ADR (before he went toxic and all) with MITB, Christian wins a world title kinda and the main. Of course they corrected course by the next REAL PPV (Summerslam)... it does feel like a moment, but honestly it's not a match that springs into my head unless I come across research material for a lengthy GOAT list. Meltz didn't have cred with me long before six stars and AEW worship simply because he gave the jungle gym a perfect snowflake since he didn't for WMX. Assclown move right there.

I was never a Meltzer worshiper who took his word as gospel (variations on the "it would be ***** in the Tokyo Dome!" joke have been around for as long as I've been online) but once upon a time I did see Uncle Dave as a handy guide. If Dave gave a match **** I was probably going to enjoy it. At the very least it was worth seeking out. But those days are long gone. Truth is Dave and I like very different things in our wrestling and the chasm has only grown over time.

90s Notes 
-90s WWF is very top heavy the most matches of any decade in the Top 10, 25, 50, 75, and almost everything in between. Yet the 90s are overtaken by the 00s & 10s once you get to #100 with both decades having many more matches than the 90s from #101-#573. Even the 80s may have caught up to the 90s when it comes to sheer volume of matches on the overall list.

-I originally left out #44 Hogan/Hansen since it wasn't technically a WWF match only to insert it at the very end. Not changing all those numbers though.

-Everything below #52 (#263 overall) is under 100 points, meaning one rogue voter can get a crummy match on the list. Luckily there weren't too many outright crap matches to make this thing. Only ones that stand out here as real wtf choices are the awful 1999 Rumble and Vince & Shane vs. Austin from KOTR 99. Notes

-This list hit different than the 90s & 00s ones. Not necessarily saying it’s “wrong,” just different. After all I’m a Vince disciple who’s all about sports entertainment and The Spectacle. But let’s look at some of these matches…#2 Hogan/Andre was a bout Uncle Dave infamously rated negative stars. #16 Warrior/Honky was a 31 second squash. Didn't #13 Hogan/Sheik only go about 5 minutes as well? I popped huge for #32 Hogan/Andre II not only making the list, but getting 8 votes! That would have been unthinkable years ago. Only bring it up because that was my favorite match from 88-95 and even I would only have the balls to put it at #100 on a list like this. Now if only one of those folks had voted for Slaughter/Warrior...which was my 2nd favorite match from 91-95. 

-First match I ever saw, or at least remember seeing, is #21 Hogan/Orndorff. First PPV I ever saw was WM 3 less than three months later with #1 Steamboat/Savage and #2 Hogan/Andre. With a start like that it's no wonder I stuck with this crazy business for so long. Was I forever trying to chase that initial high. Maybe, maybe I was...
 
-I included #24 Rogers/O'Connor but was WWF even a thing in 1961? Serious question. Not trying to be a smart aleck.

-Figured I might as well include all the pre 80s stuff. Not like there's a lot of it and I wanted every era to be represented. 

-Yep, I totally went to #51 rather than #50 just to get extra Rougeau Brothers on the list. No regrets. My work. My rules.

-After #45 is the 100 point cutoff where one (potentially rogue) voter wields a lot of influence. 

-Forgot to mention yesterday the numbers might be a little off once you get to around #140 and beyond because the person who originally compiled this list made a few boners. I'm not bothering to comb through it all and make time consuming corrections. It's close enough.

-Now I feel obligated to do something for the 2010s after all. It'll either be a Top 50 or I'll go until reaching the 100 point cutoff.

-Decided to italicize the matches I've seen just for fun. There are 14 of them with 2 coming yesterday and today.

-Big Match John looking strong with the top 2 matches, 5 of the top 13, and 6 of the top 17. 

-To show how far out of the loop I've gotten, there are several wrestlers on this list I never even heard of. Gotta admit I was intrigued by Moustache Mountain  :lol:  But they had BEARDS in the first pic to come up. smh. Live the gimmick, boys. Lose the beards. Strictly rock the 'stache. Preferably in the style of Rollie Fingers. 

-As always the numbers may be slightly off from #140 on and I caught a Charlotte/Sasha HIAC match on their list twice.

-Shawn Michaels is the only wrestler with a Top 100 match in four separate decades. He peaked at #23 in the 80s, #2 in the 90s, #1 in the 2000s, and #11 in the 2010s.
