Boards of Canada are very cool rad - good shout. I might have to start contributing some more thoughts here, I spend basically all day every day listening to music but rarely post about it because my taste doesn't overlap with most here. I've been listening to Glass Animals' new album Dreamland on repeat all day today and it's absolutely fantastic. I might come back and edit in some more thoughts later when I'm not a couple of glasses of wine deep.

I'm not listening to an awful lot of music now that I am not commuting, but my band of the moment is Blind Guardian. One of the most prolific power metal bands, known for their concept albums, including one about Lord of the Rings called Nightfall in Middle Earth.
Blasted some of their earlier albums while working from home on Thursday.
Love the way they structure their songs. They rarely go for the conventional verse-chorus formula, making their songs unpredictable and exciting. The vocalist Hansi Kürsch is an absolute powerhouse, great melodies and wicked solos.

And now on the other end of the spectrum, just some rock solid classic 70's Elton John.

If you haven’t heard Khruangbin, you need to. I (stupidly) put off listening to these guys for a long time because their name made me think they were some metal band, but they're actually awesome. Is modern psych your thing Gyro? Unknown Mortal Orchestra are my faves in that wheelhouse. STRFKR are another band that I unfairly shunned because of their name - but I'm really getting into them now. Perfect vibes as the weather starts to turn here.

Two pretty special albums released this week by indie icons Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens. My spring soundtrack is sorted.
Drip that 2020 Simon & Garfunkel tea right into my veins!

Went down a country music rabbit hole the past few days. Just revisiting my preferred genre of music from 91-94....and wondering why I ever moved on.

Haha, I was going to post the Corny Drive Thru version in the 🤯 thread a few weeks ago. There's a bunch of other Drive Thru parodies that have come up on my feed lately as well.

Rewatched The OG Black Christmas again last night. It's really good , the true first slasher ever before Halloween and it deserves that credits. Innovative at the time , well acted and a really well paced and written. You can definitely see it's influence on Halloween as well and where Halloween took the genre to a much bigger and better level that allowed it to crossover to mainstream success. Then I rewatched the 2006 remake. It's not bad at all , don't know where the hate comes from other than the normal hate the remaking a classic gets. It's got a fun cast of girls , none of which give bad performances and is a fun , campy movie with two really sadistic villains. It's definitely not better than the original but it has it's merits as a fun slasher movie that you shouldn't take seriously. There is a ton of gross shit too , which is probably the bigger turnoff for me than anything else. Scared to watch the latest remake as it's gotten even worse reviews than the 2006 version and looks incredibly bad. I might do it just to complete the trifecta. I think UT might not know where he is anymore either?

I've been going through my old CD collection at the moment. I was spurned on because I went through my LastFM and of my Top 50 Most played albums, I believe I only owned 4 of them physically. While in some cases it's because my CD player couldn't record the album, in others I just never got around to it. Since I have an accute case of sunk cost fallacy, I decided to put a fix to it and see how they all hold up looking back on it.
Placebo were the first alternative rock band I got into, but I wouldn't collect entire album releases until I came across The Smashing Pumpkins. For me, it was the perfect balance between varied music, interesting lyrics, fantastic instrumentals and a clear vision. They were also something of a mystery to me since I had only really come across them on The Simpsons, by the time I started following music they had already gone through their rise and fall. As much as I loved some of their songs (Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Stand Inside Your Love, Mayonaise, Tonight Tonight all stand out) I rarely listened to their albums. At the time, I wouldn't have appreciated the instrumentals on Gish but songs like Siva and Bury Me are so heavy and have such good riffs that I would have got so much out of it had I studied it more.
I turned to Muse who I really got into around the time of Black Holes and Revelations. I was worried that their music would age like milk to me, but I genuinely enjoy them as a concept band creating these other-worldly rock-epics that range from angsty to strangely uplifting. I was mostly listening to Origin of Symmetry but I was amazed at how much I enjoyed songs like Bliss and Hyper Music these days.
I don't think I give Arctic Monkeys enough credit. I think there was a begrudging respect because as much as I didn't like their big lead singles like I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor and Brianstorm, they really are right up my alley in terms of producing energetic in your face garage rock and mixing it in with Turner's witicisms. I actually find myself enjoying those singles more these days, and I'm genuienly surprised at how many good tracks are on their first two releases. Songs like Yellow Bricks, Still Take You Home, The Bad Thing weren't songs I'd get into until years later. I'd have to put Whatever People Say I Am...right up there with Hot Fuss as two of my biggest albums from high school.
I'm not too embarrassed for listening to bands like The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Smashing Pumpkins etc. growing up. Meanwhile I have all these pop punk records I just shake my head at. Sum 41, The Academy Is, Cartel, +44 oooof.

Of late I been listening to a lot of experimental folk music.
Feel in love with Heilung. I can honestly say I NEVER heard anyone else doing this style.
Also been listening to a lot of Omnia. They do the best version of the Witches Brew I heard.
Also after hearing about non-stop from others, I got into The HU.

Big PeteMuse are phenomenal. It saddens me that they've turned to some weird pop rock/dance music hybrid in recent years. Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution are all incredible alt-rock albums. Even Black Holes and Revelations and The Resistance are pretty good too. Not the same level as their earlier album but still excellent alternative rock. Would love to have seen them live in the 2000s, but now I feel the time has passed to see a pure hard rock Muse show. Sum 41 are fantastic and I will never regret listening to them. Frankly, they only have one pure pop punk album: All Killer No Filler, one of the best in the entire genre. Their followup Does This Look Infected? is a lot heavier, and the album after that (Chuck) is borderline heavy metal. After that they went into bland radio rock territory, as Green Day were doing at the same time, but that early 2000s run from Sum 41 is phenomenal.

I take a lot of walks around my neighborhood. A 30something guy who lives one street over works on his car approximately 12 hours a day. He listens to music while doing so. This guy I have never talked to outside of perhaps the occasional "hello" has achieved an outsized influence on my listening habits.
A few weeks back he was listening to Europe! And it wasn't even Final Countdown! Not even Carrie, but Rock The Night. It is rare indeed to hear non-Final Countdown Europe in the wild, and it lead to a not uncommon Europe binge.
A few days ago he was listening to Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi and I went down a Bon Jovi rabbit hole. Today it was Foreigner.

I got a blast from the past on SiriusXM's Lithium the other day and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since. Before last week I hadn't heard this song in over 25 years.
It was good enough for Weird Al to parody too. It's appropriate for the TV countdown (especially my list.)

HR mentioning We Didn't Start The Fire last night reminded me to finally check out young, pre-fame Billy Joel's hard rock band, Attila. Their one and only album often gets brought up by stuffy critics as one of the worst of all time. To be fair, the older, more boring, Billy Joel himself has dismissed it as a regrettable youthful folly. Now it is a bit repetitive with some moments of excessive noodling, but it's not even close to the worst album I ever heard. And the Youtube commenters agree judging by their largely positive feedback. Doubt I'll ever listen to it again, but it's basically just your average run of the mill 1970 hard rock album. I quite liked Tear The Castle Down. Definitely the closest thing this album had to a standout song. I also feel obligated to award an extra * just for the glorious album cover...

Billy had a Phil Lynott feel to his look back then, cool find. With me I've been "going to extremes" listening to the likes of Iron Maiden, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Black Sabbath, Kim Mitchell, XTC, Stephen Fearing, Spirit Of The West, Junkhouse and the Barenaked Ladies being frequent suspects. A lot of 90's Canadian rock in there I guess.

Went on two quests for barely remembered music stuff similar to the deep searches I've made for wrestling and cartoons in the past. Success!
There was a rap song I heard one time in 1990 or earlier that my brother, our friend Matt, and I got a big kick out of that one time we heard it. All I remembered was a string of "B" words with one of them being "Bronco." I had searched for this song in the past but all that ever came up were a bunch of OJ references and that would have been a few years too late. Well, today I finally found it...
Yep. I can definitely see that chorus getting over with us in 1990. =============== Figured I would try to continue my hot streak by getting to the bottom of the "Big Artie Dynamite" mystery. Now Big Artie Dynamite was my older cousin's all time favorite band. Of course they sound fake, and I probably thought they were a made up band when first mentioned them to me, but I was once subjected to a Big Artie Dynamite album during a road trip. So I know they exist. Yet I could never find any information on this mysterious band. Searches once again came up empty...
Until now! Turns out they're actually called Big Audio Dynamite. Weak. Big Artie Dynamite is an infinitely better name.

Right now I have it on the 80's Stingray channel and it's a total flashback to the Challenger disaster. Kyrie by the hugely underrated Mister Mister and These Dreams by Heart, both number 1's in January/February 1986.

I'm promised myself, I'm going to visit this thread more.
I should hate MgK, I mean.. look at him - however, this Travis Barker produced Punk-Pop nostalgia-trip of his is excellent.
I have a real soft spot for this sound, as it hit just as I was 18, 19 years old ie: Vans Warped comp CD sets. Ataris, early Fall Out Boy, NFG, Sum 41, Yellowcard, etc. And growing up and being a massive fan of Green Day's Dookie and Nimrod albums.
And it's a sound that's now old enough, that it now new again. Another new song, from an Aussie band, TOWNS.
