Add me to the train, hop-forward beers have become super prevalent here and I wish we'd have more local breweries exploring European styles instead. But I don't mind an IPA in the right situation - I think they go really nicely with spicy food like Indian or Mexican.
I'm going further down the coffee snob rabbit hole, I have been mulling over an expensive grinder purchase for a while now, and where I once was perfectly content with supermarket grounds, I'm shelling out for freshly roasted beans more often, it really does make all the difference.

I like IPA's but they are not my favorite. Scottish Ale and Oktoberfest are my jam, followed very closely by Imperial Stout.
I have definitely converted to whole bean for coffee. Don't really need an expensive grinder though, just one that will give you the grind neccesary for your preferred brewing method.

Miller Lite over Coors Light, but both over virtually everything except a Mexican lager with a lime.

We only have one Coors drink here and it’s just called Coors.
Is it Coors Light?
Is it the Coors Banquet Gyro and Johnny Lawrence drink?
Who knows?!

I'm definitely not a fan of light American beers. Just...why? It’s an acquired taste. Especially for GenX and the older millennials. Its all we had access too. For genx especially we were all binge drinkers as teens. So you can pound a ton of Lite beer, and get wasted faster and without feeling as full as you would with beers with actual nasty and taste. And it was all about getting wasted in the late 80s.

I can appreciate that. But why not buy a bottle of cheap vodka or rum or something? You'd get drunker faster, and physically consume waaaaay less liquid.
I'm either an elder Millennial or baby Gen X so I had my share of outdoor parties and garbage beer. When I was 17 I started mixing vodka or gin with Limeade concentrate. That was a good drunk.

So there’s a segment of us in GenX that couldn’t get ahold of liquor. There were counties in this state at the time you couldn’t buy it at all. There was also the drinking age. For a short time in the late 80s. Beer and wine had a different drinking age than liquor. 19’year olds could buy us beer, and some of them were still in school with us. In short it’s was easier to get cheap beer. Wine coolers were a thing then too. But so was toxic masculinity and people who drank them were called, checks notes, girls.

Ah gotcha All34LOL. A lot of supply and demand issues. Everything here has been 18 regardless of alcohol type for as long as I can remember. So it was literally asking older siblings, older friends to get us whatever we wanted. Some Provinces are 19 though. Weirdos.

My first few years of beer drinking was the piss water type. Called lager in the UK, essentially our equivalent of Coors Light or Australian Foster's (which is popular here too). I'm talking about Carlsberg, Carling, Heineken. Piss Water. I liked this beer for a long time until I discovered real ale, or what Americans call craft beer I think. IPAs, that kinda stuff. I'm not very educated on beer, I generally go for real ales that are bitter and have this colour: Incidentally Hobgoblin Ruby is my favourite beer. Not black like Guinness, a nice bronze-ish colour. Speaking of Guinness, one of the best pints I ever had was a Guinness in Dublin. Doesn't taste as good anywhere else.

When I get up in the morning I brew a pot of coffee and fill my travel mug, then fill a small thermos that I use to refill my travel mug, although I don’t always drink the refill. Depends on the day. Weekends I do the same but drink from a coffee mug and probably have two. 1 cream 1 sugar.
I have a big water bottle that I also fill with ice and cold water to carry with me through the day. I drink one of these a day.
I sometimes bring a can of Coke Zero with me in my lunch bag but not always.
If I’m eating takeout, I’ll have Coke or iced tea. Depends on my mood.
I drink beer a few times a week but usually only have one or two after dinner. Weekends I’ll let loose on Friday and have more than a few, but since winter hit that changed to Saturday (hockey) or Sunday (football). Again it depends on what I have planned that weekend when/how much I drink.
My beers of choice are IPAs but lately I’ve been drinking red ales trying to switch it up a bit. I found a brewery here in Edmonton that makes really good ones and I’ve bought those the last couple times. If I’m out somewhere for dinner it depends what I’m eating. Might get a stout or something depending.

I hardly ever drink beer, but if I was going to, it'd be something like Budweiser or Coors (Light) or whatever.
I can't deal with all the real ale stuff. It's just so gross to me. I've never even tried Guiness. It just disgusts me. 😭
I'd definitely rather have cider than beer anyway. But blue WKD is still the champion!

I've drunk Guinness in Australia and it stunk and tasted like radiator water.

Emperor Just the look of it disgusts me! And the smell! 😭 Fair enough, that's enough reason to avoid. Although weirdly I used to feel that way about eggs, then I ate an egg, and now I eat them all the time. But drink what you like, I'm not trying to sway you, just sharing my thoughts.

Plenty of fantastic coffee out in the suburbs these days, Covid only accelerated the gentrification of outer suburbs. I buy most of my beans from a roaster in Mornington that suits my taste better than anything I've tried from the inner city!
