Taylor Swift (2006) 1. "Tim McGraw" 3:54 2. "Picture to Burn" 2:55 3. "Teardrops on My Guitar" 4. "A Place in This World" 3:22 5. "Cold as You" 4:01 6. "The Outside" 3:29 7. "Tied Together with a Smile" 4:11 8. "Stay Beautiful" 3:58 9. "Should've Said No" 4:04 10. "Mary's Song (Oh My My My)" 3:35 11. "Our Song" 3:24 When people use the phrase “it wasn’t made for you” it’s normally to be condescending and disregard someone’s opinion but in this case I think it’s fair to say 30 something year old dudes weren’t this album’s demographic. While almost every song sounds the same and there is a lot of lyrical cliches it’s an impressive debut especially considering Swift was only 14 when she wrote/co-wrote most of this album. It’s an inoffensive country album about teenage love, it obviously resonated with its intended audience considering its sales. She could also sing incredibly well at this age, maybe some studio assistance (maybe not) but her voice says great regardless. “Cold as You” and “Should have said No” were enjoyable tracks but there’s nothing particular groundbreaking here. Leave (Get Out) by JoJo these songs weren’t. At least it was a wise decision to keep this at 40 minutes and not wear out it’s welcome. Favourite Track: Cold as You, Should’ve Said No Least Favourite: Picture to Burn Rating 5/10

I'm going to join in with this! This was the second Tay album I heard (after Fearless). I haven't listened to it for years, so let's do this... Tim McGraw is a pretty odd choice to start the album TBH. It's a nice song, but it's very slow and kicks the album off on a kind of depressing note. I think it would have worked perfectly as the last track on the record (and probably would have been a good encore for shows). There's a man singing on it too, but it's presumably not Tim McGraw (or his friend Nelly), so who is it?! The song feels incomplete - like there were supposed to be more instruments added in post production but someone forgot to do it. Picture To Burn is much more lively (and kinda jarring after Tim). This should have started the album! She's singing about pickup trucks and rednecks and the whole shebang. jman is shouting "yeehaw" somewhere. This is a fun song and it makes me want to linedance and grow a big tache. There seem to be two versions of Teardrops On My Guitar on the edition of the album I'm listening to. The "Radio Single Remix" (which I'm almost sure I've never heard before) is Tim McGraw Jr - another slowie with a mystery man singing in the background. The lyrics are good (especially considering her age, like you said!) and her vocals are great...it's just a bit boring. It feels like I'm listening on 0.75x speed. The "Pop Version" (stuck at the end of the album, but I'll slot it in here) is the one I'm used to. Like the name suggests, this mostly does away with the country aspects and makes it into a more standard kind of pop song. I like this version a lot more. It's a nice solid pop song. A Place In This World is a pretty good one. It's got a similar vibe to some of Avril Lavigne's first album, just with banjos and THE MAN doing backup vocals again. Some inspirational lyrics on this song! It's Tay against the world but she's gonna spread her wings and fly and find where she belongs - very Avril/Kelly Clarkson. I like the bass in this one. Another slow song! This album has more mood swings than me. That man is back. I'm getting bored again. Good lyrics, good vocals, but this just isn't really my thing. It's called Cold As You anyway. Some of these songs would be so much better with a bit more musical energy and without the male vocals (which are really really annoying me, in case you hadn't guessed). Can we get a Taylor's Version without him please?! The Outside is really similar to Picture To Burn. The slow/energetic alternating is getting old now - is it going to carry on right through or is a big curveball coming?! The next song could be a rap track or some kind of experimental flute music! No. Slow banjo and violin. Backup man. The pattern continues. Tied Together With A Smile is just another copy and paste of the opening track. How did she get away with this?! Stay Beautiful is the curveball I was waiting for! It's kind of a...middle tempo one, I guess...? I found myself bobbing side to side. It's jolly. It's about some guy called Corey - is it Corey Graves? Is that who's been doing the backup vocals?! Should've Said No! I always liked this one. It was a bonus track on the Fearless CD I had. Is this a different version? Dunno. It's easily my fav song so far anyway! I was worried about Mary's Song (Oh My My My) - it has a boring slow start (yet another clone of Tim and she's going on about the stars again), but then it livens up pretty quickly. She's riding in the dude's truck and going to the creek (she was like 14 - how old was this guy?). Yeehawwwwwwwww! The violins are out right from the start in Our Song. This is the kind of song I imagine people dance to in barns. She's riding in the guy's car again and there's something about a screen door. Yellowcard would be impressed with how this person is wailing on the violin. Yee - wait for it - hawwww! There are more songs here than on System's list! I guess I'm playing on hard mode, but I've come this far so I'll continue. I'm glad I did! I'm Only Me When I'm With You is a winner. This one chugs along nicely - probably the most "rocking" song so far! I think it would be a lot of fun live. I don't think anything is gonna beat this one TBH. Yee. Haw! Ohhh. Invisible is a slow song, but it's...not bad at all. The banjo and Corey Graves are absent. It's pretty nice. Get the lighters out! Or the lights on your cellphones! I kinda want to cry, but I don't know if it's because the song is giving me EMOTIONS or just because I exist. The end sounds like Tim (of course), but I don't care. That was another hit. Why are these bangers relegated to being bonus tracks? Is the final song - A Perfectly Good Heart - another good bonus track? Yes, it is another good bonus track. A perfectly good bonus track, in fact. She went three for three with these songs, so it's kind of a shame a lot of people won't hear them. Overall, it's not a bad album, but not a great one either. Like System, I'm in the "not for me" camp for most of it. I'm not a country music fan and the endless theme of "uwu I miss my bf" gets a bit old (a couple more songs something other than love would have been a welcome break). It's not an album I'll rush to listen to again anytime soon (unless it gets a TV) - but those three bonus songs will definitely be getting some more play from me. Favs: Should've Said No, I'm Only Me When I'm With You, Invisible Least favs: Cold As You, Tied Together With A Smile, The Outside Overall: 6 YEEHAWS (out of 10 possible YEEHAWS)

One last before I bow out, sorry for hijacking the thread System. I actually was planning on biting off of your gimmick and do my own for Taylor Swift (and maybe some other ones like Bizkit) but you're just an assembly line and beat me to it. voca.ro/130c4bpJ2fJsShake It Off

Fearless(2008) 1. "Fearless" (writers: Swift, Liz Rose, Hillary Lindsey) 4:01 2. "Fifteen" 4:54 3. "Love Story" 3:55 4. "Hey Stephen" 4:14 5. "White Horse" (writers: Swift, Rose) 3:54 6. "You Belong With Me" (writers: Swift, Rose) 3:51 7. "Breathe" (featuring Colbie Caillat) (writers: Swift, Colbie Caillat) 4:23 8. "Tell Me Why" (writers: Swift, Rose) 3:20 9. "You're Not Sorry" 4:21 10. "The Way I Loved You" (writers: Swift, John Rich) 4:04 11. "Forever & Always" 3:45 12. "The Best Day" 4:05 13. "Change" 4:40 I’m concerned “Speak Now” is an instrumental album as Fearless doesn’t suit this album at all. Almost every track is a variation of woe is me, I like someone but he doesn’t like me/doesn’t treat me right or a pity party on herself. Doesn’t vary much musically either, the singles Love Story and You Belong with Me are great despite fitting in to the aforementioned proven I just said. Change & The Best Day fit the theme a little more, the former being a very sweet song. Pusha T’s albums are always about the same thing but there’s at least clever world play and variety with great beats. I’ve never really heard many people speak about the albums pre-Red, so I’m hoping that’s where her music makes the big shift because this isn’t wowing me so far, one or two singles aside. Favourite Tracks: You Belong with Me, Love Story Least Favourite: Tell me Why Rating 3/10

Speak Now(2010) 1. "Mine" 3:50 2. "Sparks Fly" 4:20 3. "Back to December" 4:53 4. "Speak Now" 4:00 5. "Dear John" 6:43 6. "Mean" 3:57 7. "The Story of Us" 4:25 8. "Never Grow Up" 4:50 9. "Enchanted" 5:53 10. "Better than Revenge" 3:37 11. "Innocent" 5:02 12. "Haunted" 4:02 13. "Last Kiss" 6:07 14. "Long Live" 5:17 67 minutes? What is this Lateralus? There’s very few artists I want to hear a 67 minute album from so I think this would have been better with about 20 minutes of material cut. The Story of Us is the best track featured so far. That being said this was a solid improvement over Fearless, with more variety in sound and leaning into the rock and pop genres. The complains from the aforementioned reviews are still there but I’ll take tales of revenge over pity. Interested to see where things go from here. Favourite: The Story of Us, Long Live Least Favourite: Back to December Rating 6/10

Red(2012) 1. "State of Grace" 4:56 2. "Red" 3:43 3. "Treacherous" 4:03 4. "I Knew You Were Trouble" 3:40 5. "All Too Well" 5:29 6. "22" 3:52 7. "I Almost Do" 4:05 8. "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" 3:13 9. "Stay Stay Stay" 3:26 10. "The Last Time (feat. Gary Lightbody)" 4:59 11. "Holy Ground" 3:23 12. "Sad Beautiful Tragic" 4:45 13. "The Lucky One" 4:00 14. "Everything Has Changed (feat. Ed Sheeran)" 4:05 15. "Starlight" 3:41 16. "Begin Again" 3:58 Like many artists they have a floundering few albums and finally hit their mark or do a 180 and change up their sound completely. While there’s still some semblance of the old country stuff this is a great album that mostly gives you what you want out of a pop album. Starts off with a bang with “State of Grace” and it’s clear the new direction her music is going in and was a pleasure to hear so many instantly recognisable hits on one album. The album is on a roll from tracks 1-9 (curious if “Stay Stay stay” being the track after we are never ever getting back together was an intended joke) then just kind of hits a lull except for Everything has changed, with the latter half of the album it fizzles our rather than ending as strong as it started. Glad Swift found a new direction for her music to go as this is much more enjoyable than her first two albums. Favourite Tracks: 22, we are never getting back together, stay stay stay Least Favourite: Starlight, Begin again Rating 8/10

1989(2014) Welcome To New York Blank Space Style Out Of The Woods All You Had To Do Was Stay Shake It Off I Wish You Would Bad Blood Wildest Dreams How You Get The Girl This Love I Know Places Clean Not surprised this album took influence from the 80s as much like Michael Jackson’s 1982 album thriller this album seemed determined to make almost every track a possible single with an insanely catchy album that only lets you get your breath back with 1 or slower tracks (that are great) and then heading back to its fantastic upbeat sound. 7 out the albums 13 tracks were singles that charted if that’s any indication for what this album was going for. Every track perfectly flowing into the next track was a great touch also. This album had a reputation to live up to (much like the next album 😒) and it definitely delivered as one of the best pop albums I’ve ever heard. Ironically like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy you can hear the concentrated effort to make a masterpiece. Max Martin being brought into co-produce was an excellent move as he’s had a part in countless hit singles that you could dedicate an entire thread too. It’s almost entirely just fun from start to finish with any “woe is me” type stuff delivered playfully unlike on Fearless. Reminds me of Daft Punk in places which was not a comparison I was expecting to make. I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to say this will go down as one of the best and most significant albums of all time, it’s sales and ongoing praise will only continue once it hits the “classic” age in in the early 2030s. Favourite Tracks: Welcome to New York, Style, Shake it Off, Bad Blood Least Favourite: N/A Rating 10/10
