Tragic news today.

Jay Briscoe was killed in a car accident today.  The news confirmed by AEW/ROH owner Tony Khan.

Spare a thought for the Briscoes today.

Holy shit, this is tragic news. Jay was only 38 as well, just way too young and a reminder to never take any day for granted.

My thoughts and prayers to Mark and the rest of his family.

Pretty shitty news altogether, glad The Briscoes were able to get on TV with AEW/Impact which seemed like it would never happen given they have a reputation for not being so TV friendly per say.

They were one of the very few acts that Jim Cornette liked from start to finish so I already know that might be Jim's most difficult tribute he has had to do since Bobby Eaton. Despite controversies, they were the backbone of ROH for so long and they never once lost their way as characters or people to try and be PG friendly or anything of that realm.

A lot of men that have watched him over the years can learn from him. He grew a lot as a person and learned and listened from his past comments and actions. I have a lot of respect for him for that. Change is not easy, especially when you have the kind of upbringing and friends that he had.

Just devastating news. Briscoes were going to be at the head of ROH’s resurgence and now this.

I hope his daughter wasn’t in the car.

Fuck. This is bad. I think at least one of his kids was with him and possibly the other person that died.

Sounds like the two kids taken to hospital are his and Jay and another adult died on scene.

This news is only getting worse.

I was never a huge fan of the dude, but it is far too young to go. Absolute tragedy.

Awful, devastating news. I remember watching him at just 17 wrestle in ROH on The Wrestling Channel here in the UK. I was open mouthed at his awesome the Jay Driller looked. A huge loss, one of the finest tag wrestlers to ever do it. RIP Jay.

I'm not sure I've ever watched a single Briscoes match, but I know how important Jay Briscoe is to independent wrestling, tag team wrestling and ROH as a whole. His loss will be felt hard.

Can't believe he's only 38, I would have put him at least 5 years older. A tragic loss. My condolences to his loved ones.

Absolutely awful news.

As it's been pointed out, the Briscoes were a major part of ROH since it's inception and were among the best wrestlers for the past 15 years and they never needed a major organisation to trumpet it. Anyone who watched them long enough knew how versatile they were and how much they belonged in the ring. Whenever the chips were down in ROH, it was often Jay they would turn to and he would carry the promotion on his back when they needed a champion. There's been a lot said about Tony Khan's acquisition of ROH, but nobody had a negative thing to say about those FTR/Briscoes matches. When they were called upon to help represent ROH and establish some buzz, they did so with one of the most celebrated tag team series in recent memories.

So often we don't give acts like Jay's their roses until they're gone, but fans have been saying this for well over a decade.

Goddamn. Been watching Jay since he debuted in CZW when he was 16. It is unreal how many people on the 2001 era CZW shows are dead now.

Jay was controversial, but when it came time to deliver, no one did like him. His blade job during the Age of the Fall debut created one of the most memorable moments in PW history. In the ring, from day 1 he was rock solid.

I assume Mark retires now. No way he can go on. Be torture.

WOW, NXT mentioned on the air. That is pretty shocking given only worked two shows for them like 15 years ago.

Jay's daughter went into surgery after the crash. Looks like she had a spinal injury as Ashley was saying she could not move her legs.

The Briscoes are as far as I can tell the only stars outside of the WWE that I follow. My brother and I have just loved these guys for years. I have felt like Jay has had one of the best promos for a long time now. Those farm promos where it looks like they’re too busy with their real job to cut a studio promo were crazy good. I still think my favorite promo ever was Terry Funk ain’t wear no mouth piece. I always held out hope to see them in WWE even though I knew better. I thought Jay could have been a mega star in WWE.

JR wanted them in WWE badly and scouted them for years.  When they finally got a tryout, someone high up shot them down last second claiming they had no marketable look.  They were in talks later to join NXT, but they turned it down since indy guys were not being well received.

Also some early noise that Tony may scrap Dynamite and do a tribute show. A lot of the roster is really gutted today as Briscoes helped countless people come up.

Shocking news to hear. A great wrestler, and one half of one of the best tag teams to never have a proper run in WWE.

-the other adult that died was the driver of the other car.

-his daughters were with him.

-one is stable but injured and the other is having surgery today on her back. She couldn’t move her legs.

-people close to the family are saying he was either taking them to or picking them up from cheer practice when the accident happened.

Jay was hit head on when another driver crossed without warning into his lane. Both girls were taken to the hospital in critical condition.  Jay was driving without a seatbelt.  

To make matters worse, today is Mark's birthday.

I received the news a few hours ago. Right now, I'm just gutted. This one truly fucking hurts. I'm devasted. RIP Jay. Thank you, Jay, for entertaining me. I'm in shock, man. I can't believe it! I don't want to.

Local news is reporting that both girls needed emergency surgery. Likely why school cancelled in that area. Early this morning would not know if they would make it or not.

Sounding like would not have even mattered if Jay had his seatbelt on or not. Speed limit on that road is 50. Head on at 50+ getting hit by a truck is almost always fatal. Woman who died had hers on.
