HHH putting over Gunter hardcore at the press conference. Shane tore his quad and HHH said Snoop stepped in like a pro to finish the segment. I hope Shane recovers and its not as serious as it looked! Also, is it just me or was that a pretty good Peoples Elbow?? The rope run was shit, but Snoop legit just crashed into Miz with the elbow. Given he is not a big guy, and it was an audible, sure Miz was cool taking it like that.

Crazy point by HHH. This was the first WM with this team, and many people in the spots they are in. And they fucking killed.

So for Finn, he was gashed opened by the ladder and when the ref came in, they put several staples into his head in the ring and the match went on. That is fucking crazy. He is fine now HHH said. Guess they are not playing around these days with the blood.
If this was a bingo hall deathmatch would be duct tape and crazy glue after the show.

Wonder if Meltzer gives the IC match five stars. It was a Japanese style match in WWE, seems right up his alley for match of the year. Was overly predictable, but not really sure WWE ever did that before on the main roster before. And do not recall the matches in NXT being that stiff.
WWE career guys backstage are notorious for thinking this style of wrestling is for marks since the blows and chops can takes weeks to heal. But guys like Regal are really into it since it is really safe, just painful. We very interesting to see if a group leans into this style of wrestling in WWE now and we get a more King's Road style going, minus the career ending headdrops.

Honestly, getting it stapled that soon after the spot is like absolute best medical practice and likely means it will not scar badly if at all. But crazy to take the staples without any numbing and continue the match like nothing happened. That shit hurts. Had stitches without numbing once and it was agony.

HHH addressed if WWE missed their moment with Cody. He is laying it out that they are telling a story and you have to decide if you stop the story at one point, or continue it. And you have to feel it out, and the story always continues. Oh biscuits, they’re really doing it aren’t they? He gave up the short term gains for a bigger payoff. If this is true… wonderful. If not. Cody will never recover to anything more than US Champion.

There is nothing AEW can do that is worse than this shit. I thought the sparkler expoding death match was bad, but holy fuck WWE tops it all with this shit. What a fucking shit show. I hope Triple H is fellating himself to this garbage hard, because no one else wanted it.

I couldn't help myself and while I still have the final hour or so of Day 1 to watch through, I made a beeline towards Cody/Roman because I was genuinely curious which way they'd go. On one hand you've got Cody, the last active guy on the roster who has a legitimate claim to the championship. He's also the type of guy who's flourished in the WWE while he floundered in AEW, so if they wanted to prove a point there they could. On the other the Bloodline is one of the best angles the WWE has ever put together. Just when you think they couldn't find another wrinkle, they do and the storyline gets better from there. With the sale coming and nothing else really in place to replace the Bloodline, there was an argument to stick with Reigns. I thought the match itself was generally well laid out. Roman Reigns has a fool proof formula and Cody did his part inside those parameters. It's all about subverting expectations and watching guys come up with crazy counters to signature spots, the highlight for me was the sunset-flip counter to the spear. However even the Disaster Kick reversals looked great and every move landed well. I think it's a formula that doesn't quite hit the heights of the all-time great matches, but it plays well in big arenas. When you have 80,000 you can just stick with big signature moves and put the technical stuff aside. I thought they worked the match like Cody was going to win, right up until the finish which was genuinely shocking and felt like a collective low blow. I think they got the type of reaction they needed, but like the other Roman wins and losses I'm curious to see how they come back from this. I definitely get the sense they wanted to get something back from Cody first before they completely rocket-strapped him. Kind of like how Cena beat Brock in Brock's return, then they gave him the streak and went all in on Brock.
Unless there's an injury, I expect to see Roman in the main event of XL.

Got to be honest, I love a good IWC meltdown. Roman is good for that. Twitter is a delight this morning.
I was shocked though, they got me for sure.

That little girl beasted on that entrance. Now knowing that her mom passed away on the morning, she absolutely rocked it. Seriously impressive. Massive crowd, probably much bigger than anything any of these girls were used to and they had a show. Regardless of even knowing the girl or not, you can't help but respect & feel bad for anyone that young to lose a parent and on top of it all, still have to perform in front of millions on Live TV.

I'm watching it on delay, as it's Monday here and some of us have to work.
Gunther/Sheamus/Drew - what a banger. This is what wrestling was meant to evolve into. It was a wild stiff ride. Gunther is an obvious machine, and Sheamus has held his own as a tough SOB for a long time, but this might have been Drew's best match... ever. 3 guys throwing " live rounds " until some eventually falls over. Great stuff. These three guys alone could humble the entire AEW roster in less than 30 minutes.
The main event. What a classic. Yeap, sure.. maybe a little deflated after seeing Roman retain. But as much as I wanted Cody to win for the magical moment, I could not see those belts in Cody's hands. It was a fantastic story told, it has firmly put Cody into that " World Champion " conversation and arguably, he's perhaps the closest full-timer to taking the belts from Reigns. There's a lot of money to be made in Reigns v Rhodes II. I have no doubt it will main event Summerslam or Survivor Series, unless there's a massive debut or return on the Raw after Wrestlemania. This story is not over.
All in all, Wrestlemania was a hell of a show this year.

Wasn't Dusty more into building the chase for the title, than when he'd actually win it, hence him never holding it for a long stretch? Mabe Cody has similar mindset. Just hopefully, he doesn't wait too long to win a title before people are not into it.
