In all honesty, any invading force can have Western and South Australia. And the Northern Territory also for that matter.
Western Australia is isolated and most of it is harsh, hot desert. It may as well be a different country. South Australians already speak a different language, and well, the North... surrendering the NT would certainly fix a lot of problems for Canberra.
It's a win in my book.

I agree with Musk, for what it is worth. He supplied the Starlink (At his own cost) to aid Ukraine in a defensive capacity. When they were proposing to use his technology for offensive action he stopped support. I think Musk is 1,000% correct with his take on Ukraine. The longer this war goes on, the more people die and there seems to be no effort to broker peace talks. What's the off-ramp? Believe it or not, the support that Zelenski had from his people at the start of the war is wavering and almost non existent. I spoke to my Ukrainians about this at my moms' party and ones who praised him a year ago no longer trust him. They don't want to give in to Putin, but they want the war over, they want to go home (what's left of it), and they want people to stop dying. We all find it circumspect that there has been no steps towards peace talks and no end in sight. 100% agree with your friends. I find Zelensky dishonest, the way he visits the USA in combat fatigues and not a suit... the crushing of all opposing views and the nationalsing of all media, he's behavjng like a tyrant. Putin is obviously a real PoS, but the way is illogical. The USA sending hundreds of billions to the Ukraine in dribs and drabs is not enough to win... that was never an option, but it is enough to keep the gears of war turning which is a meat grinder taking the lives of young Ukranian men with no end in sight. The world is full of hypocrisy and it is all so very tiring to me that in the never ending quest for hero's and villains it is people who suffer.

War will end at anytime if Putin ends aggression. Simple as that. Only reason there is no end in sight is because no one wants to admit that Putin is a problem. Giving him the Ukraine is not a viable solution, as he gets that, he moves on to the next country he wants.

Russian propaganda spreads far these days. Many are convinced Ukraine should surrender, get annexed again, and sign an agreement that they will join no defense pacts so Russia will have the option to come back for more. The claim this is what is best for the Ukraine is basically what they said when Russia annexed the Crimea. People claimed it was for the best as it would stop future conflict. Yet here we are hearing the same argument again.

We intervene militarily in meaningful way going into a full scale conflict with a nuclear capable Russia. 3. We find an ugly and unappetizing diplomatic solution. Oh... and I'm not dying for Zelensky, but any of you are more than welcome to.

What exactly has Russia done over the last 2 years to indicate that they can fight a full scale war against ALL of the free world?
They're struggling to beat a country of potato farmers at this point and internally seem to be fighting amongst themselves.
The best case scenario is someone finally calls Putin's bluff and tells him he's got 24 hours to end the war and leave, or the free world steps in. Half a million drones, some guided missiles both backed by fighter jets and not a single soldier on the ground ends this thing.
If he launches a nuke, a bigger one is coming his way. He knows the threat as much as anyone else. Hence why he won't and hasn't used one.

There was a drone attack in Kiev last night. Russian may have the supplies, but they lack the soldiers to win. Tens of thousands of soldiers have defected since the war started, and few of Putin's soldiers will fight to the death. Why the Ukraine is so successful on this counter offensive.

A big part of what's wrong with the world is over population, meanwhile we've got Nick Cannon and Mr. Musk driving that number higher. He just had a third baby with Grimes, after his ghetto twins with her and his work associate. All in he's got 11. Now from a financial POV I say 'go for it', but if he's so concerned about the world, why is he adding to the issue?
I used to love Musk. I thought 'he's one of the good guys who is going to save the world' and now I think he's drank enough of his own Kool-Aid that he's flipping more to the megalomaniac side.

Or has calculated the likelihood of it happening is low. In short he doesn’t care… I mean they are mostly just poor people anyway amirite? Logistically speaking, it would be a nightmare to invade Australia the old fashioned way. If you "storm the beaches" from The North, maybe you take Darwin. Then you've got a 3,000km trek until anything good. And by then, the entire country is immobilised, as The Navy from the Southern and Western States secure the waters on each side of the continent, and NZ tags along for good measure and every fighting force is sent to the line. It's difficult to rationalise with that argument, because the likelihood of it happening is slim to none despite what a few Liberal Politicians keep saying, and the actual invasion would be a painful experience for anyone wanting to take the country. It wouldn't be easy or logical, which is why The Chinese have just resorted to buying up everything instead and sending all their children here.

This is all a replay of the run up to WW2. Hitler annexes the Sudetenland because of its German-speaking population. The UK, France, and Italy allowed it because Hitler promised that was all the land he wanted. Neville Chamberlain declares the deal ensured "peace for our time." How did that work out?
Putin has explicitly said he wants to restore the Russian Empire and prevent the expansion of NATO. For years he's been going after pieces of the Caucaus. Then took Crimea. Then invaded Ukraine. If Putin is appeased by the EU/NATO leaving Ukraine on their own and basically surrendering the currently occupied lands, then he will wait a few years to rearm then take the rest of Ukraine. Then moves on to Moldova where he already has a similar breakaway territory in Transnistra. It's brutal now, but any appeasement gives Russia time to rearm and attack closer to full strength, which would likely be even worse.

It's difficult.
If Zelenskyy gives in, it likely ends the fighting and the loss of a lot of innocent lives.
But then Ukraine likely becomes riddled with war crimes via the systematic destruction, rape and torture of their people at the hands of Russia and their warlord pals. I'd imagine anyone who fought for Ukraine would be hung in the streets by the end of week 1.
If Ukraine keeps fighting, maybe potentially Putin dies or falls ill and the new regime pull the pin. Or better yet, Russia decides for itself and another Russian Revolution results in a regime change.
What is scary, it shows how much the free world will tolerate from Russia. It's ok with what is happening, if it doesn't spill out of those containment lines. That's the message being sent.
But maybe the easiest solution is a counter invasion and just duke it out and that way, the Western world keeps rolling all the way into Russia, takes Moscow and arrests Putin for war crimes and installs a new democratically elected leader, completely changing the trajectory of that country for the better and likely the ending decades of tension.
It's a scary prospect.

Nukes that not everyone is convinced are functional anymore. Or that Putin is capable of bypassing the NATO missile defense shields.
Good to know though the US has freedom to do whatever it wants to internationally now though since we also have nukes and no one wants to risk a nuclear war.

It's brutal now, but any appeasement gives Russia time to rearm and attack closer to full strength, which would likely be even worse. Let's play devil's advocate here. Rewind to pre-WW2 and Hitler takes Sudetenland The West did nothing because Hitler said he would have stopped, but then he didn't and invaded Poland and the rest is history. So imagine instead the West had have attacked before Poland and imagine that Hitler hadn't planned to go any further than Sudetenland 38 million died in WW2, how did it hurt historically to wait until Hitler over-reached into Poland? If there was a 5% chance you could save 38 million lives, would you take it? Russia’s struggles in Ukraine have shown that it is a shitty, tinpot army, but nukes keep others at bay with MAD. Poland or Finland could whip Russia because of superior air power. I don't know about this, it might be the case... But Russia hasn't hit Ukraine with everything it has, there is a good chance it could wipe the entire country off the map in a week if it so desired. Whether or not the ICBM missles would work, there is little doubt Russia has functional tactical nukes which are enough to illicit Armageddon on their own. Naw but the Ukraine made it clear if the US were to say invade Mexico, the world will likely not do shit to interfere even if we do annex it after. Well, the world didn't do shit when you annexed Iraq (Twice) and Afghanistan... Nobody would do anything if you invaded Mexico under the pretense of ending narco-terrorism.

Whether or not the ICBM missles would work, there is little doubt Russia has functional tactical nukes which are enough to illicit Armageddon on their own. Russia does not seem to have the conventional firepower available to subdue Ukraine, let alone wipe it off the map without using nukes. Downed Russian cruise and ICBM missiles have very recent manufacturing dates stamped on them. They appear to have used their stockpiles and are down to JIT delivery. In addition, Ukraine has a pretty good air defense network. The two Patriot missile batteries are even capable of shooting down ICBM and the vaulted hypersonic missile wonder weapon, although they have limited coverage. Russia has a much larger air force than Ukraine, yet does not have anything close to air superiority. In theory Russia should be able to flood the skies with planes and bomb Ukraine's army senseless, but they haven't. It's curious. Is Russia holding them back to deter other threats (eg - China)? Are the planes not air worthy? Do they not have enough pilots and ground crews? Are they afraid of Ukraine's air defense?

Russia also planned then cancelled displays of their "super weapons" several times now.
They still have the air force, but with so much anti-air defense in place it will be slaughtered if sent out. Also friendly fire on the Russian side is essessive with it being estimated 20% of their air casualties were self-inflicted.
But yeah most of what they are using is what they can manufacture or buy. And it clearly is not enough to hold the Ukraine, as they are being driven back slowly but surely and the war is crossing over more and more into Russia to hit supply lines there. And buying things is not easy as most countries do not want to be paid in Russian currency, and the BRICS currency to enable easier trade for countries with international sanctions did not manifest.
This is why the calls to end the conflict and stop supplying the Ukraine are so loud now , Russia knows it cannot hold much longer.
