Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he has spoken with the Israeli prime minister following an Israeli air strike that killed an Australian aid worker in central Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted it was an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) air strike that killed Australian aid worker Lalzawmi "Zomi" Frankcom and six other people in Gaza.

Mr Albanese said he conveyed to Mr Netanyahu in "very clear terms" that Australians were outraged by the tragedy of Ms Frankcom's death.

He said that during the phone call Mr Netanyahu accepted responsibility for the strike on behalf of the IDF.

"This happens in wartime. We are thoroughly looking into it, are in contact with the governments [of the foreigners among the dead] and will do everything to ensure it does not happen again," Mr Netanyahu said in a video statement.

The Israeli prime minister said his country's forces had carried out the "unintended strike" on "innocent people in the Gaza Strip".

Mr Albanese would not respond to Mr Netanyahu's comments but said Australians would look at the death of Ms Frankcom and be deeply concerned that someone could lose their life while providing aid.

"These people are heroes," the Australian prime minister said of aid workers.

The charity organisation that Ms Frankcom was working for, World Central Kitchen (WCK), has suspended its delivery of vital aid to Palestinians on the brink of starvation following the Israeli strike.

WCK said the team was travelling in a three-car convoy that included two armoured vehicles, and its movements had been coordinated with the Israeli army before it was hit.

Ms Frankcom, as well as Palestinians and citizens of the UK, Poland and a dual US-Canadian national, died in the blasts on Monday night, local time.

Trump wins, he could become the advisor for Israel and guide US policy again.

So Iran showed a lot of restraint. They announced their action and used the most defeat able weapons they had then immediately announced that the military action was over.

People do get that Iran had to respond for domestic reasons? There is no nation on earth that wouldn't respond to a military strike on their embassy, it is literally a strike on their homeland.

Israel's response now should be to bluster and protest then do nothing. If they respond militarily it means they want a war with Iran and they want the US involved.

Bibi started this, he launched strikes against an Iranian embassy, he knew what happened next.
Through all of this Iran has been very clear that they weren't backing Hamas as did Hezbolah.

I think Biden was absolutely correct in telling Israel if they act against Iran they are doing it alone.

I don't think Trump is agitating for war in Iran, he is probably rightly pointing out that the US is perceived as quite weak at the moment.

These two been at this for what 50 years this time around, since the Iran revolution. Hard to claim any single act started things. Before the attack on the embassy, Hezbollah been raining rockets into Israel from Lebanon. Soon as Israel retaliated against Hamas the attacks started. I am of the mind of saying fuck both of them, let them go ham and just make it clear that the war will be contained by force to their two countries, shooting down anything that flies outside of them.

Unpopular opinion: Israel is so shit when it comes to respecting the international community.

The attack on the Iranian embassy by Israel was a huge overreach and the wrong way to protest your suspect ties between Hezbollah and Iran.

I just had this conversation IRL. Israel wants this fight. They want the United States to come and play. And almost certainly, Israel's borders are a lot wider than they are now when all is said and done. Case in point, every time The Palestinians have acted up, Israel had taken more of their allocated, mandated land.
