I thought we'd give this a try this season, given that this is perhaps, the most anticipated season in the WNBA's 27 year history.
And most of that talk revolves around the stellar rookie class coming into the league. The likes of Clark, Cardoso, Edwards, and Reese are expected to make immediate impacts to their teams.
Game 1 is tonight, where Caitlin Clark makes her big league debut, as the Indiana Fever go on the road to take on the Connecticut Sun.
And that will be followed by the Las Vegas Aces, defending back-to-back champions, taking on the Phoenix Mercury.
Let's see how this goes.

Caitlin Clark had a little bit of a shaky start to her WNBA career tonight. She didn't get her first basket until midway through the 2nd. But once she got it, she played a bit better.
But one person can't make a whole team. The Fever found that out tonight.

She has a high profile as a rookie so she’s obviously going to get everyone’s best shot. But there is also an element of crabs-in-a-barrel. She’s the reason the WNBA is getting more attention. Players need to realize she’s the tide that’s raising their boats. They may resent it but that’s a fact.

They’re trying so hard with Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker and Jayson Tatum, but they keep getting outclassed and outshined by International players. Jokic, Doncic, Giannis, Embiid and now Wemby has come to town. Not to mention, two of the top prospects from this upcoming NBA draft are International players. I mean for fucks sake, Embiid is on Team USA now because they can’t even find a center who can dominate in America.
The American people need an American superstar to come and in the meantime the WNBA bought us 2 (yes really two) with Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

I think more people know who Jalen Brunson is than Devin Booker excluding his tirades with Jenners. He's the king of NY sports right now anyway.
Watch out for Cooper Flagg though, this has the makings of something worse than Clark. Cocky white kid from Maine/New England who has committed to Duke, projected top pick of 2025 NBA Draft if he's living up to the hype. Had Lebron and others go to Maine just to watch him.
Team USA vs Team Canada has been a fire rivalry in women's soccer but it's team sports. I would say Rousey/Tate even if one sided too for MMA side.

None of them were ever treated like megastars by the press or the public. All 3 were #1 picks and the first 2 won national titles for the team of the 00's, the Uconn Lady Huskies under Geno Auriemma. I forgot to put Sue Bird in that group as well, another one who falls under the same criteria of being a #1 overall pick who won at UConn multiple titles. They were big deals in the college level but only to diehard fans. Each of these women were huge at their respective times for the sport but much like with the USA Women's Soccer team of the 90's, it came before any traction happened due to social media.

It's asinine to suggest that the rest of the league should bend over and kiss Clark's ass because she's brought more eyes to the sport. It's a professional sports league not a popularity contest, they are competitors and it is perfectly natural for people to try and cut down the tall poppy. It's bit like expecting everyone in wrestling to never come for Tony Khan because from an impartial perspective he has made the industry a far better place.
Making this a racial issue is lame. Just let them be rivals and enjoy the contest.
