I watched the fight on Youtube good god the commentary was so biased for my opponent, the highlights they showed in between rounds, everything it was his show. They made it out like he dominated the first two rounds and they were way closer than they made it out. I watched the knockdown in slow motion and yeah I was fucking screwed that was a knockdown, it wasnt even the overhand right it was the left when I slipped his jab completely froze him with his arm hanging. That was a big time knockdown.

I was like homie don't you know mans been running doggies at the football field for months?!

I was offered a big fight by that promotion on November 23rd in Lake Charles Louisiana in a huge arena, MMA fight against a guy with no real ground game mostly just a knockout slugger, same age as me, really popular guy down there in South Louisiana area they call him "The Hammer". I kind of want to take the fight but my neck and shoulder is still fucked up from the slip and fall and my right foot is in bad shape, possible broken bone in it. I haven't been able to lift weights or do anything this past week just hobbling through work this week the best I can. Also huge bruise on my bicep from blocking January's punches I'm glad those didn't hit my face I probably would have been in the ER getting a catscan that night.
But I would like to take this fight and would like to have my little brother in my corner. He couldn't make the trip for last weekend because him and his family had already booked an air BNB for a vacation before I had even took that fight. I think having him in my corner would make a huge difference and I think after getting all the emotions and nerves dealt with last weekend I will fight a lot smarter and more calculated this time. But also think I'm just chasing after something I don't need, maybe just hooked on all the attention I got last weekend from everybody and not willing to let that go, that last round was a pretty good way to end it all. I figured I would try to get back to weights and cardio over the next two weeks and see how my body feels before I decide.

Had a couple of weeks to process this now. I turned down the November fight my right foot was still in bad shape earlier this week(feels a lot better now). The week after the fight(last week) was terrible, I had Sunday to rest and had no chance really to clean up or unpack from the trip, right back to work Monday just hobbling through the week feeling like I had been in a car wreck. If you watch the video or gif in Baker's av note how I fell on my left elbow on the slip, my neck wracked over and my shoulder got jammed up. All of that hurt really bad last week.
But getting back into the weight lifting gym this week has me feeling 100% better, by this morning I started to really regret turning down the fight in November.
I was in way better shape cardio wise than what that fight showed. I think I just forgot to breathe at moments in that first round, too tense too much emotion. I really wish I would have calmed down and fought a lot smarter, there was a lot of stuff I just forgot to do, a lot of combos that really worked for me in the gym sparring guys, a lot of footwork, my uppercuts, body shots, my mind just went blank in that first round.
But thinking about it and looking closer that was pretty crazy man. I didn't start to train until July and took the fight on 3 weeks notice. Prior to July I hadn't hit a focus mit or a punching bag in 16 years. I fought a guy that has fought multiple times this year and was coming off of a 7 second one punch stone cold knockout. Seeing his facebook he had a ton of hype coming off of that KO this past June. He was in crazy shape at the weigh ins, he trained at probably the top MMA gym in the whole mid-south and had a ton of focus put on him for that fight. The commentators were from his gym, Matt Schnell fought 16 times in the UFC was on the Ultimate Fighter in 2016, the female commentator also fights regularly in the UFC and her husband was in my opponents corner was how connected they were to him. Looking at it now and thinking about it I'm pretty sure they just brought me in to set up another highlight reel knockout to get the crowd going and have a viral video of me getting knocked the fuck out to spread around the web. I took that right hand several times right on the chin(once while standing on one leg) and never got rocked or wobbled.
That got a lot of respect from the guys I trained with when I got to the back later that night. They were asking me about the kicks and I explained to them that I used to be able to do that a lot better back in the day, I just ain't got it anymore. Somebody told me one thing I do still have is my chin because I took some shots and never went down. I'm very proud of that.
Too many emotions though, I trained way harder and am way better than what I looked like in those first 2 rounds. I would really like to fight again to show that but I'm tapped out on money, that took a lot, 3 different gym memberships, gear, taking days off for blood tests, taking the day off to make the weigh in that Friday, the $75 an hour one on one sessions with the boxing coach, it all added up to a lot. I mostly turned down the November fight because of this, it's a 9 hour round trip drive for that one and I'm just not up for it. My little boy needs winter clothes and a new pair of shoes. Also I'm just not up for another 7 weeks of getting home at 9:30 and killing myself like I'm basically working 2 jobs. It was a lot man. I think I'm going to keep working on some stuff on my own while my foot heals up, give this thing another push and fight one last time in a cage in MMA rules in 2025.

For those who have never seen it this was the kick I was going for to start my fight off:
I landed it perfectly in my very first fight and was able to follow up with some good punches, also leveled a guy with it in a street fight before I got into MMA(I had a much bigger running start across the yard was in a full sprint). Doesn't work so well when youre 39 years old and struggle to kick above your waist anymore lol.

Don't like it being called a Spartan Kick now. No one called it that back then. Be like calling Jake Roberts DDT the first Evenflow or some shit.

Don't like it being called a Spartan Kick now. No one called it that back then. Be like calling Jake Roberts DDT the first Evenflow or some shit. I think from now on it should be called the Pat Smith kick, Ive honestly never seen it done anywhere other than that fight, that was always one of my favorite UFC moments and seemed like just an amazing way to start a fight. If it lands right its basically the same psychological effect of a football team running back the opening kickoff in a football game, the other team having to start off being in the hole right off the bat. In my fight against January I felt like it took away his whole aura of that 7 second 1 punch knockout he was riding into that fight, that was gone after I did that, not tonight motherfucker.

I still cant get over how I got an ECW style highlight video to White Zombie, I think I undersold that but that made my fucking heart burst with love ❤️
Also wishing I would have did something more with my walkout. At least needed a shredded black towel over my head. I tried to change my entrance music to Pride FC theme but they didnt change it I used Bitter by Atmosphere on my original paperwork I filled out.
