Thursday Night Football
Bills @ Dolphins - AFC East rivals both got a W in week 1 despite scares. Josh Allen put the Bills on his back as he has so many times, but concerningly is already carrying an injury after his do it all performance against the Cardinals. Miami started a bit slowly against Jacksonville but rallied to a victory on the back of a huge two play 14 point swing sequence, Jevon Holland's goalline Peanut Punch causing a Travis Etienne fumble at the goalline, and a classic Tua-Tyreek 80 yard touchdown.
Sunday Early
49ers @ Vikings - San Francisco put a turmoil filled offseason behind them with a very impressive win over the Jets even sans McCaffrey, while the Vikings decimated the hopeless Giants to the point they were openly pitying Daniel Jones. Sam Darnold's first game went well but this is a far greater test.
Seahawks @ Patriots - Both rookie head coaches debuted in style; New England caused the upset of the week defeating Cincinnati on the back of tough defence and Rhamondre Stevenson sledding, while the Seattle defence suffocated rookie Bo Nix and Ken Walker ran over the Broncos front.
Commanders @ Giants - Big Blue were hopeless in Week 1, Daniel Jones looked completely broken and the hyped Giants pass rush was absent. Washington wasn't much better, their talent level is still worrying. At least Jayden Daniels looked like the part athletically, if he can stay healthy he's a real shot to break the QB rushing record.
Chargers @ Panthers - Bryce Young being better in year 2 is off to a bad start, he looked as hopeless as ever as Carolina were humiliated by New Orleans. Could they be in line for the #1 pick for the third year in a row?! The Harbaugh/Roman LA Chargers are here and are as advertised, JK Dobbins almost running for as many yards as Justin Herbert passed for in their win over the Raiders.
Saints @ Cowboys - New Orleans stunned everyone with an offensive explosion unseen in the Bayou since the Brees/Payton heydays. Time to put some respect on Klint Kubiak's name? The football cognoscenti wrote Dallas off because they didn't make any flashy signings, but they looked like the same old Cowboys dominating Cleveland in all facets of the game.
Colts @ Packers - It looks like Jordan Love will only miss a couple of games, but with Malik Willis as the #2, the Packers are at the risk of being well behind the 8 ball in the NFC before September is over. Indy took their customary Week 1 loss, but it was a very creditable performance in the game of the week against Houston. Anthony Richardson had 9 completions for 212 yards!
Browns @ Jaguars - Deshaun Watson reached another new low with an awful performance against Dallas, and then was served with another lawsuit for sexual assault. Cleveland fans have been desperately hoping this gives their team an out of the worst contract ever handed out, but the organisation deserves everything they are getting for giving this creep tens of millions of dollars only for him to play terrible football. It was a familiar story for Jacksonville as they again failed to close out a game their should have won against Miami with the offence melting away in the second half under the Florida sun.
Jets @ Titans - two teams looking to bounce back after rough openers, Gang Green laid a big egg albeit against a tough opponent, and at least Rodgers made it through healthy this time. Tennessee's defence limited Chicago to under 150 yards but a blocked punt touchdown and a crucial Will Levis pick-6 doomed them to defeat despite having a 17 point lead.
Bucs @ Lions - Detroit are riding high after a crucial win over a tough opponent, led by Aidan Hutchinson pass rush and Jameson Williams szn arriving. Tampa took Washington behind the woodshed with Baker Mayfield leading the league in passer rating.
Raiders @ Ravens - Las Vegas had the coaching gaffe of the week with Antonio Pierce criminally choosing to punt on 4th & 1 in Chargers territory down 16-10 with only 7 minutes to play. Truly abominable. Baltimore took a tough luck loss against the Chiefs in the season kickoff game, but did get a star making performance from Isaiah Likely.
Sunday Late
Rams @ Cardinals - The good for Arizona was that they came close to beating one of the league's best teams. The bad was that Marvin Harrison had one catch for four yards and appeared to be running through mud. Maybe it was just first game nerves? The Rams also managed to be very competitive against a Super Bowl contender, but worryingly were assaulted by the injury bug. Puka Nacua and four o-lineman are on IR, leaving Matt Stafford little choice but to target Cooper Kupp about 30 times.
Bengals @ Chiefs - Joe Burrow was supposed to be the beneficiary of having his first full preseason program, but it looked anything but with Tee Higgins scratched and Ja'marr Chase holding in. Does he have a wrist injury? The Kansas City Swifts looked like the same old juggernaut, defeating the Ravens once again on the back of two explosive touchdowns by debutant speedster Xavier Worthy.
Steelers @ Broncos - Victory came in the most Pittsburgh-y way possible in Week 1, six field goals and a TJ Watt dagger sack. Prayers up for Bo Nix who is next in the pass rush maestro's sight, and struggled in his debut without a lot of help from any of his teammates or his coach.
Sunday Night Football
Bears @ Texans - Caleb Williams became the first #1 pick quarterback to win in Week 1 since Derek Carr in 2002, but it wasn't really because of anything that he did, failing to reach 100 yards passing. He'll need to do more this week against the high flying Texans who got the best start possible from their new faces, Stefon Diggs with two touchdowns and Joe Mixon with a sensational 150 yard rushing day.
Monday Night Football
Falcons @ Eagles - not a good vibe for Atlanta being beaten by their former coach when he was blamed for all their issues. Kirk Cousins took every snap from shotgun and barely moved, if this keeps up fans will be calling for Penix sooner rather than later. Philadelphia crucially came away from Brazil with a win, despite not having the cleanest performance, and Saquon Barkley looks like he might win the rushing title.
