Stuber I probably shouldn’t talk about this too much since I signed an NDA to see it. Explain yourself. Are you a film critic?

If by that you mean do I have a blog titled "The Film Critic", then yes. If you mean do I have special privileges granted to me for having some sort of designation, then no.
It is a common thing around the LA area. They let the masses see unfinished movies for free every few weeks or so to provide feedback for subsequent editing changes.

I'm pretty sure the definition of that fits what they are, yeah. A lot of people around here go to them often. You can see some cool stuff. One of my friends got to see Wonder Woman a year before it released.

A beautiful film. Much better than I was expecting. I've always liked Russell Crowe but I didn't know he was capable of this level of goodness. He has always been kind of a joke after the whole Les Mis debacle, but this man has some solid acting chops and deserves respect. All the dialogue and acting throughout this movie were top notch. It was a very interesting and emotional story. I highly recommend this to anyone who has not seen it. I also recommend not researching it too much if you are going to watch it; it would certainly spoil it some if you don't know much about John Nash. It's fairly accessible if you are into dramas to some degree. Interestingly, Nash is portrayed as having a very odd personality yet somehow it is still very much likable. So it will probably mesh with you more if you also have somewhat of a weird personality. It was also a very heartwarming tale and made me feel better about life in general. This movie delivered a strong message without being annoying or shoving anything down your throat like the last movie I watched at home "Like Stars on Earth"...it delivered the message just through good storytelling, like it should be. That's the proper use of the power of film.

I watched Vice tonight. I think that somewhere in there was an awesome movie, but they wanted to be The Big Short and that style blunted some of the attacks on Cheney. I loved the Big Short, and I felt like that style would’ve been put to better use on a more specific look at how the Bush Administration expanded the scope of executive power.
There’s a lot of flash in the movie, some of it great. Worth the watch for the style and if you like seeing people adopt the look and mannerisms of people they don’t look like.

Or was it trying to be like Big Short but failed and thus wasn't good?

Or was it trying to be like Big Short but failed and thus wasn't good? Trying too hard to be like The Big Short was what hurt it. I thought the movie was just okay, great in some spots, but mostly too glib. Big Short did a good job simplifying a large thing, this movie tried to do that but had half the time because it spent too much time on other things.

Watched Polar on Netflix, an entertaining little mindless action film. Some really great scenes of action in there, but definitely not for those turned off by over the top violence. Mads does most the work in carrying the film, and disappointing Winnick is so vastly under utilized, but still a decent watch.

Lionheart I watched A Beautiful Mind and only watched a small part of it and turned it off Before the twist is introduced, and only found out later watching a countdown so I was cut I didn’t give it a chance
mikec It’s the same director though? That sounds like saying Pulp Fiction tried to hard to be Reservoir Dogs 🤷🏻♀️. I really enjoyed it, I think they needed that style to make Cheney interesting but each to their own. —— I saw Dragon Ball Super Brolly: I’m on leave so no one was free to hang out..as they’re working etc. I thought fuck it I’ll go see this by myself. As a casual fan of DBZ fan I enjoyed it, first half was a lot better than the second though. The Mule: This just came out in Australia, fantastic. Disappointed but not surprised Clint Eastwood didn’t get nominated.

It is the same director, but I don’t think the it works as well. I think generally when Tarantino makes a movie that I don’t like his inability to adapt his style to the subject can be a problem. If that’s a better way to say it. I would’ve been fine with a movie about Cheney’s years as veep in this style, just thought the material stretched the style too thin.
I don’t particularly like Cheney, but this felt more like potshots than a well made argument.

Hahahaha. Well, I was thoroughly enjoying the movie from start to end so if you didn't enjoy the beginning then it's not a guarantee you would have liked it {Spoiler}after the twist either. But yeah, I didn't see it coming at all and it totally mindfucked me. I was in the same boat as Nash's character where I didn't even believe it until it was definitively proven with the letters.

Ben is Back: Really enjoyed it, one character I found really obnoxious but her actions were understandable (like Skylar I’m Breaking Bad).
Surprised it didn’t get any nominations.

I've been getting up at 4 to get into the gym before work so I have had some free time in the evenings to relax and watch a movie. Last week I watched Out For Justice on Blu Ray for the first time on my 4K rig. My love of this movie is never ending. It's a Steven Seagal movie but it's got this great crime drama vibe about it. So many great lines and moments, one of my favorite movies ever. The thing is its like there are several versions of the movie floating around. Whenever I would catch it on tv I notice a bunch of scenes that were not in the theatrical version, and also could have swore the butcher shop fight scene was more gruesome/gory than the one on this blu ray, so maybe there is a made for TV cut, an unrated cut, and the regular theatrical cut. What a classic 90's movie for me though, I think it's super underrated, one of the GOAT action movies.
Carrying on in the Seagal mood I watched Under Siege on my 4K rig I think Tuesday night. Haven't seen this in ages. I actually didn't enjoy it as much on this go around. The first hour or so is excellent but then once it settles into a Die Hard clone it kinda drags, but then the final fight with Seagal vs Tommy Lee Jones was great. It never really dawned on me how much of a Die Hard clone Under Siege was until this viewing, it's basically Die Hard on a battle ship. Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones make the whole movie.

I watched Snatch this afternoon - lot of fun, would recommend. Brad Pitt's Irish accent though. From what I've seen from video with some Irish people talking about it and such, it's a fairly decent pikey it seems. Not perfect, but hits a lot of the right notes.

Dog Day Afternoon Excellent film based on a true story about a bank robbery going wrong and being blown delightfully out of proportion. Al Pacino stars as the main bank robber, and he knocks it out of the park with an Oscar-worthy performance. Surprised this film/role isn't talked about as much as Scarface or Scent of a Woman considering how good it is. The film is both dramatic and funny, although it isn't trying to be funny like a comedy, the situation is so ridiculous that it just is funny. Highly recommended.

I've never seen the original Death Wish films so I watched this with a clean slate. Well, it wasn't the worst movie ever. Were it not for the massive bottlenecking factor of the atrocious acting, it may even have been good. The actors playing the wife and daughter of Willis' character are breathtakingly bad. His brother is okay, but even Willis himself had just about the worst direction possible and could have easily been played by a robot.
It also drove me crazy that the wife and daughter characters were so stupid. They really thought they could fight off three armed men by incapacitating one of them? I wouldn't call it a plot hole since it's feasible assuming the characters were dumb, so...whatever. Just not a real compelling reason to sympathize with Willis' character when his quest for vengeance is only necessary because his family was stupid.
It somehow still managed to be fairly entertaining though. Good action scenes.

Lionheart Death Wish V keeps coming on tv on one of the channels I pick up on my antenna(I rented it once back when it was new also, VHS!), it's actually pretty dope. I've seen bits and pieces of the others and to me doesn't really look too good, my dad always loved the first one. One of them possibly part 3 is like a notoriously bad Cannon Films schlock movie where they just went full retard. Probably worth at least looking up the trailer for it for some laughs. Death Wish 5 though is one that I always really liked, Bronson is pretty great in it even though he's old as fuck he's got some excellent lines. Mother nature provided me a much needed day off today and I spent it recovering my body pounding protein and fluids and watching movies all fucking day. I watched Single White Female from 1992 first off this morning. Haven't seen this in probably 20 years, it's really really good erotic thriller that I enjoyed. There is a scene where the main girl is being held hostage by her evil room mate and she pulls out a device and gets on the internet posting for help... in 1992 like a year before the internet existed right? WTF? This was a good movie though. Also finally got around to watching the 2010(or 2009?) Predators movie starring Adrien Brody. Always heard great things about this and it has Oleg Taktarov the former UFC fighter from back in the day. I thought it was better than any of the Aliens vs Predator movies and definitely better than that new Predator movie that just recently came out, but still just kind of an average movie, not really good but not too bad.

Watched The Big Hit last night from 1998 starring Mark Wahlberg and Lou Diamond Phillips and my girl Kelly Bundy. Haven't seen this probably since it came out. It's actually really funny and better than I remembered. Phillips is great in this, for this kind of a movie it has a surprisingly good story for being a comedy/action, I actually loved this movie this time around.

Alita Battle Angel: Visually breathtaking, good but not great as far as story goes. A bit cheesy. Too long to have such an abrupt ending. Escape Room: avoided seeing this as it looked terrible, Man was I wrong. I loved it apart from (spoiler) and them making the character that loved Escape Rooms into the butt of all jokes. Isn’t this meant to appeal to people who like them? :lol; I’ve neber done one but I’d like to. The plane ending felt very tacked on

This past Sunday I did nothing but relax and watch movies all fucking day long. I started with Dragonheart from 1996. Always loved this movie and really enjoyed it on this go around. Other than a scene or two the CGI effects have held up surprisingly well. While watching this I was remembering an AWESOME old show that came on Fox one Summer, it was like an old Dungeons and Dragons style show that I was REALLY into then it just disappeared and was cancelled out of nowhere. I did some research and the show was called "Roar" and it starred Heath Ledger! I need to track down a DVD set of it.
Next up I watched The Lawnmower Man from 1992, tripped out sci-fi movie starring Pierce Brosnan and the forgotten Jeff Fahey(Body Parts was so good!). This movie has a lot of themes to the story that were way ahead of their time for 1992, virtual reality, the internet, uploading your consciousness to a hard drive so you can live forever, etc. I guess it's kinda a cool movie but not all that great really. I'd give it a 6.8/10.
Then I FINALLY watched Gangs Of New York from 2002. Read so much hype about this on the internet, a lot of people seem to really love it but did not like it at all really. Daniel Day Lewis hits a home run with his performance as always but really he's the only positive thing I can note about this movie, it drags on for a long time and is just really overall really weird. I'd go 5.9/10
Then I watched Unforgiven the 1992 western starring Clint Eastwood for the first time. Another super hyped movie on the internet these days. I had actually tried to watch this a few times when it was on Netflix but always either fall asleep or get too busy to watch. It was a very good movie but felt a bit too long and kinda average story really, I'd go 7.5/10 not as good as the hype had me expecting.

What Men Want: I enjoyed it, the Fiji water product placement is beyond ridiculous though. Twice in the movie someone says “have a fiji”. I know it’s an American thing to say the exact brand of something but it was so blatant.
also overheard a woman talking to her group after the movie complaining the movie sucked. Her: In “what Men Want” he was a total misogynist and it changed his whole life. In this it didn’t matter. Nobody cares what Men think.” The hypocrisy is astounding.
Happy Death Day 2U: Some absolutely awful parts of this film, otherwise it’s good for a soulless cash grab sequel.
