Rewatched the second Jurassic World. Still the drizzling shits. But what about that poor Brachiosaurus!? Think a bunch of moles were digging under it and a sink hole was formed as the island was exploding. It fell into the water and quickly evolved it's feet into flippers and traveled the loch ness and that's how Nessie was born. IT SURVIVED MAN!

Just saw Shazam. It’s absolute magic. DCEU has a legit home run in the stable now. Is Shazam The Flash with a new name? I saw the trailer. Looked pretty good.

Behind the Curve
This is the flat earth doco on Netflix. Why so many people have taken this view of the flat earth, I don't know and I can't understand. People are dumb, and getting dumber.
This is also a really good case as to why we need to take the western world's growing mental health problems seriously.
I think it's probably a good thing from a mental health perspective really. You have a lot of disaffected, isolated people who have found a harmless thing to believe in and become part of a community. Plenty of worse things they could be doing. Just saw Shazam. It’s absolute magic. DCEU has a legit home run in the stable now. Surprised to hear this is getting such good reviews. I saw the trailer before Captain Marvel and it seemed very forced.

No, shazam is actually DC’s Captain Marvel with a new name. The original Captain Marvel actually outsold superman in the 40s, but a lawsuit for copyright infringement basically killed the comic. DC then bought him and he’s been part of the DCU for decades now. Seriously ... this movie is special. I whole-heartedly recommend it. Very little has been given away, most scenes are cut awkwardly in the trailers. The humor is amazing. It’s both fun and funny. It has heart. It’s really great.

This is such a ridiculous paragraph that I'm inclined to think you're fucking with me, but I don't think that's your style, and the detail involved makes it almost sound believable. Then you start your next paragraph with "Seriously" and I don't know what to think. In conclusion: Shazam is The Flash.

He left out the part that despite DC's Captain Marvel coming first, Marvel trademarked the name, so while DC could call their character Captain Marvel, they couldn't use the name on the title, which is why the comics themselves were always called some form of SHAZAM. Leading to the confusion amongst the general populace that has currently seen the character rebranded as such.

Why would DC name a character Captain Marvel in the first place? That's the name of the rival company, you dummies! Or maybe they wanted to steal the name?

The Shazam trailers have done nothing to make me want to see it. I still plan to, but they've been kinda cringe. But I hope it continues the current trend of stand-alone solo DC movies being great so long as they're not trying to make a universe happen like they were before. Let them exist in the same world, but focus on their own shit.

Why would DC name a character Captain Marvel in the first place? That's the name of the rival company, you dummies! Or maybe they wanted to steal the name? They didn't. Captain Marvel was originally published by Fawcett comics. DC even sued them claiming Captain Marvel was a copyright infringement on Superman. Plus Fawcett created the character in 1940. Marvel didn't even exist under that name yet.

So DC's Captain Marvel came first according to RagnarokMike but DC didn't originally publish it and they then sued the comics who did publish it? Then Marvel decided to name their company after this superhero? Then I suppose DC somehow acquired him but renamed him to something else so no one would know who he is, thus severely nerfing their own sales and making the acquisition kind of pointless? Then both companies happened to make a movie about the same character at the same time? This mystery gets more convoluted by the post.

I don't think so.
"Marvel Comics" was originally the name of the comic series published by Timely Publications (the company that would later go on to become Marvel) in 1939 I'm guessing Stan Lee renamed the company after this comic.

Us: Really enjoyed it for the most part, Lupita Nyong’o was fantastic in the film. The twist is very predictable though but it still works Dumbo: Soulless cash grab of a film, just mean spirited for the most part.

Tim Burton is garbage at remaking movies. Of all the remakes he's made, the only good movie (surprise surprise) was Frankenweenie, a movie he originally made as a short back in the 80s. Everything else is so cynical, he's almost as bad as Adam Sandler where he treats his productions like extended vacations where he can hang out with his friends and family, make a mediocre film and call it a day.
Let's count them: Planet In The Apes - Awful, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Souless, Alice In Wonderland - The Modern Cure To Insomnia, Dark Shadows - Yes, seriously they made it.
It's a shame, because when Tim is involved in biographical productions, he seems to make really good movies. Instead of copy + pasting 'you'll never make it, we'll show them! oh no the fame got to us, dead/reunited' plot you see in every biographical movie known to man, Tim usually delves deeper into a theme. It's why Ed Wood remains one of his best movies and why Big Eyes was a return to form for him.
He's a tough director to rate because his output varies so dramatically from era to era. I still think he has enough quality movies to be in the conversation of great auteurs, but he's falling dangerously close to becoming another John Landis.

Bullet from 1996 starring Mickey Rourke and Tupac. This is a forgotten movie I think. I've been wanting to see it again for a while but I could never find it on Netflix or Amazon Prime/Instant Video or anything and it's not one of those DVD's you find at Wal Mart so I had to buy a DVD copy online. I got it in the mail and watched it last night. Completely forgot/never realized that Adrian Brody plays Rourke's younger brother the artist, also the Wire mark out moment when Omar appears as one of 2Pac's henchmen. I love it when somebody from The Wire pops up in some old movie or show I'm watching. Omar with Tupac is next level though, even better than Bubbles in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This was really good. Maybe not as good as I remembered but still really good. Ted Levine probably should have won some kind of major award for his performance it was something special. One of my favorite movies and I'm glad I finally found it and got it in my collection, fuck streaming, physical media ftw

No but seriously I kept seeing references to it online and even in Supergirl, so seemed I had to do it. Watched 1/2 on Netflix last night and when I went to resume... they took it away? Lol guess I'll have to use Amazon. Awesome movie even if it nearly clocks in at 3 hrs. Obviously cannot rank it in terms of Pacino films since I've seen so little, but it's up there for me. I am kinda puzzled by the quote UT used in the countdown. I had assumed it was something Deniro said to Pacino, but guess he just picks a better line than anything to do with the character. Reminded me of parts of Den of Thieves with the two sides playing cat and mouse, but I suppose it's very likely DoT was heavily influenced is all.

Saw Us a few nights ago. It is unfortunately getting compared to Get Out in my head so it’s on a level beneath that, but still a good time. The movie had some tension, but honestly not as much as I expected from the trailers.
So anyway, creative movie coming from a very specific point of view with good acting, but not particularly scary.

Hell of a shoot out too.

Ant-Man and the Wasp The first Ant-Man film had..shaky science, to say the least. The sequel takes the gimmick to levels that are beyond ridiculous. Suddenly anything can shrink or grow, whether it be non-organic objects or living creatures, with almost no consequence whatsoever, and there's a character who constantly vanishes in and out of existence, or something. "Quantum" is thrown in front of everything to justify all the non-science going around. Obviously we're not meant to treat the premise as if it were real science, but for a while the movie wants us to take all this nonsense seriously, filling the void with mostly lame quips from Paul Rudd and the supporting cast. Besides that, it's a barrage of clichés: the corrupt, power hungry suit-and-tie villain, the supervillain with an origin story of betrayal and superpowers gained through an explosion-ridden tragedy, and a car chase that goes on far too long.
It's during said car chase that the film starts to embrace its own silliness, then it becomes laugh a minute for about 15 minutes, before returning to the main mess of a story involving the lost mother/wife, who has been trapped in the quantum world for 30 years but devised a quantum plan to get out by somehow getting inside Ant-Man's head in a very quantum way, and as soon as she's rescued she heals the in-and-out-of-existence character just like that, as if it were the easiest thing in the world. Oh and she survived in subatomic land just fine for 30 years, living on...quark steak, or whatever they eat down there. You got all that? You did? Oh, well at least it makes sense to you.
Moderately entertaining, but certainly near the bottom of the list as far as MCU films go. And the comedy is much more miss than hit, in comparison to the first Ant-Man film.
The post credits scenes though...holy shit.

Saw Shazam, I'm really glad to see a movie where the trailer doesn't ruin every last moment in the movie, some genuinely pleasant surprises here. Enjoyable film start to finish, had the laughs, had the heart, maybe DC's best effort since the Dark Knight. On in the inverse, a movie that did give the good chunk of its plot away in the trailer, it did still have a little something more to bring, and was decent overall, but not seeing all the people saying "You don't need to see the original again." Aside from some of the acting and prosthetics being somewhat antiquated at this point, I still find the original the superior film. Finale was definitely a bit problematic: Okay, while the ending of the whole family being Pet Semeteried is an, I'd say, satisfactory twist on the resolution. It showed the daughter SLOWLY dragging the mother. So she somehow had time to drag her down the stairs, out the door, through the woods, over the barrier, through the swamp, up the stairs, THEN bury her, and have enough time to make it back down to the cemetery, with enough time for the mother to revive and make it there as well, before the father woke up and made it to the cemetery? Just a poorly framed plot point all around. Still, reasonably enjoyable. Just not blazingly superior to the original as It (with the exception of Pennywise) was.
