Caught a few on a week and a half away from home: Robin Hood (2018)-It was a fine film, but suffered the same problem as Arthur: Legend of the Sword, these don't need to be 100M dollar blockbuster, makes them strive for spectacle rather than properly fleshing just about anything out all that well. It was okay, I'd probably only ever watch it again if nothing else was on (which tends to be impossible these days), but I don't regret watching the once. C-Hereditary-This I may regret watching the once, I'd heard a ton of good things, but outside Toni Collette, it was a a real clusterfuck. Honestly, I didn't mind it to begin with, but all falls apart as it goes on. If nothing else was on, I'd watch nothing. D+ (an F without Collette) Possession of Hannah Grace-Basically "the Autopsy of Jane Doe" if "the Autopsy of Jane Doe" didn't suck, still not a great movie, but a better play on the premise. Resounding "meh." C+Creed II-Not as good as the first, not nearly, I'd have to watch them all again, but'd probably fall somewhere in the middle for the franchise. Still a solid watch, and I'll surely give it another go (watched it late night, well, early morning, and actually nodded off a few times leading into the climax). B-Breaking In-Enjoyable enough start to finish, solid performances all around, doesn't break any new ground, but a decent addition to the genre. B-Warrior's Way-Entertaining stylized action from a few years back, a bit over stylized in my opinion, which tends to detract in my eyes, but a solid cast and enjoyable story makes it entertaining enough start to finish. B-Buried-For a film almost entirely placed within a single box, this was well paced, well acted (one of Reynold's best, before he started getting the love he deserves), and keeps you on edge all the way to the closing moments. Took far too long to get to this one, really enjoyed it. A-Leatherface-This one I'm going to put into a spoiler to properly discuss. The grade is C+Okay, it was a decent enough movie throughout, but ending just kills it, absolutely forced, they had the perfect man to play young Leatherface and they Shyamalan'd the fuck out of it in an incredibly contrived way. First off, dude doesn't look nearly right to BE Leatherface, I guess he stops worrying about his body image and grows a bit taller after the fact. But also, he's almost virtuous through out the entire film, then he goes just straight evil because he got shot in the face, no sell to him murdering the chick he was protecting the whole movie outright. A better ending would be Hodor becoming Leatherface and killing the two people he was never quite protecting, but sort of was; he was the most perfect origin Leatherface they could have gotten, I can't imagine a better casting. But, nope, shitty twist. So close, knocked it down from a B+ in one fell swoop. Won't You Be My Neighbor-Everything you could want from a documentary really, and one of a truly deserving person. I don't know how to praise it more, I was fascinated start to finish. I'm not sure there's a greater Oscar snub in existence. A+

Under The Silver Lake (2018) - David Robert Mitchell's (It Follows) neo-noir is a movie that can be interpreted on several levels. On face value, it's about an unemployed burn-out (Andrew Garfield) living in a shady apartment complex who happens to meet a girl who mysteriously vanishes without a trace. Garfield has nothing better to do with his time, so he looks into her disappearance and finds multiple cover-ups and conspiracies that suggests the rich and the powerful of Hollywood are running an elaborate scheme and are using mass media to send cryptic clues.
That's the surface level reading, I won't spoil the other since it's something of a twist, but if you've seen the trailer, you can probably guess where it's going.
Silver Lake received very mixed reviews, but if you're like me and you enjoy mysteries like Zodiac, The Wicker Man, Brick and Mulholland Drive this might be something you're into. It's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and has a lot of fun set-pieces, but still manages to get pretty emotional by the end.

Detective Pikachu is already getting a ton of love from critics – it currently has a not-so-super 71 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes – the newest entry into the Shyamalan canon” www.fatherly.com/play/pokemon-detective-pikachu-movie-post-mid-credits-scene-spoiler-free/ I’m so confused by this article, pretty sure Shyamalan had nothing to do with it? Anyway movie was a 6/10. Not great but not bad either. Too many adult themes for small children and too childish for adults who grew up with the franchise.

Detective Pikachu: Took my nephew, to an earlier showing for this, he seemed to love it... I thought it was pretty good for what it was. As someone who grew up obsessed with all things Pokemon (and still somewhat is), I thought there was some pretty cool moments in the movie, that put a genuine smile on my face. Will I ever see it again? Probably not, but as a fan of the franchise, it was at least worth giving it one viewing. 2019 Movie Rankings6. Hellboy 5. Captain Marvel 4. Shazam! 3. Detective Pikachu 2. Alita: Battle Angel 1. Avengers: Endgame

I just finished watching the two part Death of Superman/Reign of the Supermen animated movies
The Death of Superman: This is the second time, that DC has given the Death of Superman story line, the animated treatment. While I enjoyed Superman: Doomsday, this one was more comic book accurate (obviously not 100%), and just more enjoyable, due in part to seeing Doomsday take out the Justice League.
The Superman/Doomsday fight was awesome AF, as to be expected (worth checking it out in Superman: Doomsday as well).
Reign of the Supermen: Given that this is a two parter, the movie picks up six months after the events of Death of Superman, and introduces four new super men (Superboy, Steel, Cyborg Superman, and Eradicator). As for the new characters introduced, Superboy was my favourite, and I’m kinda hoping we’ll see the character pop up at some point in future Teen Titans animated movies (Justice League vs. Teen Titans, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract).
The voice cast was good throughout both films as well, with the exception of Lex Luthor (voiced by Rainn Wilson), who I didn’t care for at all. While Marvel may dominate the box office, DC has for the most part, always put out solid animated films, and these two movies are no different.

Mr. Right-Funny little offbeat comedy starring Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. Nothing great, pretty basic movie all things considered, but Rockwell's presence keeps the movie from ever feeling stale. Some solid action sequences. B-
Darkest Hour-No wonder Oldman won the Oscar for this, truly a transformative role. Other than the occasional smirk, Oldman is completely lost in the performance; if you didn't know, you might not even notice it was him. Truly commands the screen from his first moments to the last seconds. Really a fantastic film, nothing but a series of political wartime discussions, but never really felt like it was lagging for me. Detective Pikachu - Went and seen this yesterday , really enjoyed it for what it was and it was pretty much everything you could ask for from a live action Pokemon movie. The graphics were beautiful and they made you really want to live in that world. Feel pretty safe saying this is the best video game movie ever. 8/10
Lego Movie 2 - Because I didn't get enough kids movies , rented this on the way home. It was fine... it had huge shoes to fill with the original and didn't come all that close to filling them. Had some great moments though and a few that got me to laugh out loud. Had it not had to live up to the original than I think it would have been better received.

I think that guy corrected his typo since you posted that with Pokemon. How the fuck does he accidentally put Shyamalan instead of Pokemon? Hahaha.

Holmes and Watson-A few decent chuckles, but that's it, well overstays its welcome even with a short runtime. D
What Men Want-Solid flick, but not as good as What Women Want. Pretty unremarkable, but enjoyable enough. C+/B-

John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum:
Discount Rose McGowan killed the movie for me, her acting was atrocious and that’s saying something as the rest of it isn’t particularly great.

Aladdin: Really good, the new version of Arabian Night is great. Brightburn: Pretty cool, as close as they can come to an evil Superman origin film without getting sued. Deaths scenes were nasty. Looking forward to the sequel to see the rest of the Justice Squad 😒

Game Night - Man I really wish I hadn't slept on this last year. It was quite good. Rachel McAdams also looked damn good here too. The jokes hit 95% of the time for me as well. Glad it was on HBO Now otherwise I doubt I would've tried it. May not have made my vote for the 2018 list either way though.

The Peak of Being a Wallflower.
Is it me, or is Netflix AU running low on quality to watch?
Anyway, after scanning through Netflix, I landed on this - I had heard of this movie, and from purely the poster, I had assumed it was a feel-good coming of age movie with little depth. And I really decided to watch it, because of Emma Watson. Aesthetically.
What a great little movie. Set in the early 90s - it follows Charlie, a kid returning to school after a series of traumatic events, in which he now suffers from depression and anxiety and a dash of PTSD, until being taken in by the alternative kids. Those kind of kids that weren't cool then, but would be tragically cool now. Sad in parts, as it could be easily relatable. But I really enjoyed this.

I do agree I scroll almost infinitely on Netflix, will probably watch Bad blood season two then Jessica Jones. I wish they'd subtitle the foreign decent content, I can't handle dubbing.

You can change the settings back to the original language and subtitles. Agreed that there hasn’t been a good Netflix show for a little while now, and the Australian movie selection has never been that great. I’ve been catching up on stuff on Foxtel while the missus got it for GoT. Stranger Things is out in a month though...

I'm not sure I will keep Netflix as I got it mostly for the Marvel shows, but I do enjoy Narcos, discovery and Sabrina Just signed up for Stan and I feel like between the two of them there is enough content for just one platform

Just signed up for Stan and I feel like between the two of them there is enough content for just one platform Yeah I think this is a real problem. The appeal of streaming is that you should be able to get everything for an affordable price. Now there’s Netflix, Stan, Amazon and Foxtel Go and you’re essentially paying the same amount you were for cable. The only solution is to share the cost with friends and family.

I mean there’s more monster fights, that’s always covered by snow/lighning/ash/darkness but it’s mostly melodrama between a daughter and her divorced parents and the rest of the equally uninteresting crew

Never have I had a problem with needing to pee at the theater, but I apparently hadn’t gone in a while and had to excuse myself to run to the men’s room right before this scene. Pleasant surprise in rewatch.
