Space Jam: New Legacy Man this was surprisingly really good, first 20 minutes aren’t great but after that it’s hilarious. Ironic that some of the jokes feel dated at the start (like dabbing) especially as movies get delayed and yet classic Looney Tunes gags that are 50+ years old still hold up strong. Do kids even really know Looney Tunes now? I didn’t think they were on tv now due to the violence and guns.

A Quiet Place Part 2
No spoilers so not a full review. Very well done. It had The Last of Us feel to it at times.

F9: The Fast Saga: With nine movies in the main series (ten with the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off), you know what you’re getting into with the Fast & Furious franchise. That’s to say high-octane, exhilarating action, although you won’t necessarily be getting the greatest story, nor the best acting from the cast (though it is as always serviceable), but again you wouldn’t expect that from a Fast & Furious film anyways. Speaking of acting, while I’m not a fan of John Cena as a wrestler, I definitely enjoy him as an actor and this was another good performance from him. 2021 Movie Rankings 14. Locked Down 13. The Marksman 12. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway 11. Cruella 10. Thunder Force 9. Luca 8. Wrath of Man 7. Tom and Jerry 6. Godzilla vs. Kong 5. Space Jam: A New Legacy 4. F9: The Fast Saga 3. Black Widow 2. Raya and the Last Dragon 1. Mortal Kombat

Caught Greenland, solid disaster flick, a few nice turns here or there to keep things going. Solid performances all around, thankfully keep the kid's stuff minor (no pun intended). It's not anything you're gonna remember or return to, but if you like disaster movies(which I do)...it's definitely one of them.

Having seen both Terminator and T2... honestly I think the original was better. T2 I was expecting SO MUCH MORE and it felt kinda samey. I dunno since it's 30 years old I feel the time of release had to have played a factor in.

I wonder if that has more to do with it. Not getting time to forget, reset, refresh, etc.?

The Tomorrow War: I thought this was a pretty decent sci-fi flick, and the White Spikes (the name of the alien species in the movie), had a creepy looking design as well, so that’s definitely a plus. Chris Pratt was good in his role as well, however, J.K. Simmons didn’t get nearly as much screen time as I would have liked, which was kind of disappointing. Jungle Cruise: I went and saw this on Friday night, I thought it was very punny, that’s not a typo by the way, there’s just a lot of hilarious puns throughout the film. Both Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt had great chemistry with one another as well, which is a good thing. This was definitely the better of the two movies that I watched this weekend and a top five film of 2021, at least so far for me anyways. 2021 Movie Rankings 16. Locked Down 15. The Marksman 14. What's Jungle Cruise about then? Is it a light-hearted family friendly film? Worth watching for an adult in his 30s?

I mean I enjoyed it, as did the fiancée (she's 27, I'm 35), as for family friendly, eh there's a few scenes that young kids might find frightening (some supernatural elements), but appropriate enough for older kids. Like I said, it's hilarious, but also brings the action as well, I'd say it's a nice balance between the two. Maybe if you're into Indiana Jones, or like the Natrual Treasure movies with Nicholas Cage, you might like Jungle Cruise as well.

Nothing ground-breaking but if you're after a popcorn flick you could do worse.

Tom and Jerry: it wasn't terrible, mostly just recycled material with a live action backdrop, decent watch for kids.
A Mighty Wind: Been meaning to get to this one forever, too much charm to handle, a place for everything and everything in its place. Really an amazing ensemble. Good stuff.

Black Widow
Not a bad movie (there are very few bad MCU movies), but in the grand scheme of things it's lower tier. I'm wondering at what point in the MCU timeline this film takes place. Might be completely off here but it feels like it's around the time of Captain America: Civil War, so isn't this film like 5 years too late? Nothing particularly bad about the movie but nothing outstanding either. Average.
I guess my one gripe is that they threw a lot of shit at the wall. Black Widow is basically the only character I was familiar with, they introduce the Taskmaster and Red Guardian and Black Widow's "mother", and her friend who can pull helicopters out of his ass, and her sister. However I can't complain too much because there was a lot of exposition, any more and I may have been complaining about how the movie is way too long. At the end of the day I'm only slightly confused, considering the amount of plot and backstory that's going on, me being only slightly confused is a decent outcome. Red Guardian and Taskmaster did feel like a waste of space though at times, seems their main purpose was to cancel each other out in the final act. I did think the whole gimmick with Black Widow being unable to touch Dreykov because of pheromones was kinda dumb, but that's a super nitpick.
Florence Pugh was the standout to me, I feel like her comedy would have got a lot of laughs had I been in a crowded theatre. Meanwhile Red Guardian's comedy fell flat.

Black Widow is I were ranking the Marvel films now would be down with the Hulk films for me. It was just so poorly written. The film itself was acted decently, and look pretty, but that written just left so little to work with. Marvel not really doing the communist arc for the communist characters really makes it hard to figure out their backstories though. Also feel it was a huge miss to drop the shared backstory of her and Winter Soldier, with Bucky training her in the Red Room. It just works so perfectly in the MCU to have used this and they really dropped the ball.

But then they tie in Elaine's purple haired character whoever she is in the post credits, and we also see her in Falcon/Winter Soldier, so what? She's going to try and brainwash Bucky and Florence Pugh? They're just passing the story on to a new actress? LAZY

Black Widow may be disappointing but, I wager it's far better than Captain Marvel. Brie Lawson's acting is so wooden.

So yeah, watching Suicide Squad now. May be Gunn's best film. Fusion of GotG and his early work. Absolutely hilarious. Def a breakout film for Daniela Melchior. Cena is great as well in it and plays off Idris Elba so well. Def a hard R film as it is also his most violent film by far. A shitload of characters used too in the film, Gunn really took advantage of the deep DC roster. Starro in particular is a deep cut.

Yeah, the Suicide Squad is awesome, everything a Squad movie should be, hopefully the shit show of the first doesn't deter too many from seeing this beast, Gunn's name should definitely help. The action was awesome, the characters were on point, Margot with her best Quinn performance to date, and Cena/Elba having great chemistry playing off each other. Maybe the best DC movie since Dark Knight, definitely a close race. But god dammit, why did Boomer have to die? Him and King Shark together could have been pure fucking gold, so much personality gone to waste. It would have been acceptable if he came back in the end, but noooo, the fucking Weasel. [/b]

Did Cena film both Fast and Furious 9 and Suicide Squad at the same time? How does that work? F9 started filming in June 2019 and wrapped in November, Suicide Squad started filming in September of 2019 and wrapped in February 2020. Some overlap but since it's an ensemble you could schedule specific days for each shoot.
F9 was one of the first films delayed and was set to premiere in the 2020 Summer Season.

Cena also shot a Peacemaker series too. Gunn wrote the series and directed most of it.

The Suicide Squad is a really fun popcorn movie. It doesn't attempt to re-write the formula and at times it really does just seem like a glorified music video but I wouldn't call it boring. I really enjoyed all the shout-outs to DC IP and the villain really elevated the movie. What I like about Gunn's movies is just the small little touches he gives his characters, I even cared about the stupid rat. Even the main villian surprisingly had a poignant moment which caught me off-guard, I found the ending really touching.
Not quite an Iron Man or Dark Knight in terms of elevating the genre, but definitely in that top tier super-hero movie.

Also really give him credit for making Starro work, one of those villains that's more of a novelty, but really made the most of it. That end line was tragic.
