Took the boys to see an early screening of Transformers One It was wonderful. That's awesome, KJ. I'm looking to do the same, but the kids have their minds set on The Wild Robot instead.

Speak No Evil (2022) Immensely frustrating and bleak film with no redemption. A poor man’s “Funny Games”, I know it’s the point but the husband character was pathetic. The guy that plays Patrick did a great job and some gorgeous shots but it made me want to be one of those people that screams at the screen. Speak No Evil (2024) Fixed almost everything I disliked about the original. It completely betrays what the original was going for so fans of the OG will be frustrated but this is the few times a Hollywood remake has fixed a film for me. James McAvoy was great as Paddy (Patrick) too.
I really like the reversal with the bashing Paddy to death with a rock ending as opposed to the couple getting stoned to death in the original
I watched Speak No Evil 2024 tonight. My wife’s the horror fan and she’d said she generally didn’t like the first but the ending had stuck with her. She then showed me the third act of the original when I got home. I felt like the remake was very safe. The buildup was good, but there wasn’t a great payoff at the end. The family that couldn’t make it ten minutes without a stuffed bunny suddenly killing three people felt very Hollywood. I’d assumed a Strangers type ending, so was a little disappointed when everyone made it out.

Caught Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, it was alright, was too tall an order to live up to the original, but this just felt uneven. Set up two seperate villains and did very little with either. While “Day-O” is an absolutely iconic scene, I think we could have done without the forced song and dance number. Was nice to see Keaton let the Juice loose again, Rider was entertaining as ever, Ortega was also there. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great, was just fine. Would totally be up to cap it with a trilogy if they can come up with an actually substantial conflict, this one was a little flat on that front.

The Substance:
An aging woman who’s fired from her morning fitness show finds a substance where you can change into a new younger body for 7 days. But after that 7 days you MUST switch back to your old self.
It’s school holidays this week so it’s mostly kids films in the cinema here, except this.
Never thought I’d compare a Demi Moore film to Tetsuo: The Iron Man but here we are.
Body Horror is probably my least favourite style of horror as I just find it disgusting, which i know is the intended point but I find it difficult to watch. So many squeamish and cringe inducing moments in this.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die: I finally got around to watching this, much like the other movies in the series, I dug this installment as well. As always Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have great chemistry, my only complaint is Vanessa Hudgens didn’t get enough screen time, for my liking. Boy Kills World: Bloody, over the top, and I loved every second of it. Easily one of my favorite movies of the year. Totally Killer: Campy as fuck, but man I enjoyed every second of it. I mean time travel and Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy, Modern Family), and Scream getting name dropped, what’s not to love. 2024 Films SeenAbigail Afraid A Family Affair Air Force One Down Alien: Romulus Argylle Atlas A Quiet Place: Day One Bad Boys: Ride or Die Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Bionic Blink Twice Bloodline Killer Bob Marley: One Love Boy Kills World Cash Out Challengers Code 8: Part II Cult Killer Damsel Deadpool & Wolverine Descendants: The Rise of Red Despicable Me 4 Dune: Part 2 Founders Day French Girl Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Harold and the Purple Crayon Heart of the Hunter Hit Man IF Imaginary Immaculate Incoming Inside Out 2 Jackpot! saw Transformers One with my nephew it was ok. He (11y/o) liked it. Badassatron was my favorite. My biggest complaint is it was just under $50 for 2 tickets, 2 drinks, and 1 popcorn. Don't get me started on the 30 minutes worth of previews and commercials from what was to be the start time to the time it actually started.
