I didn’t watch it but my wife watched House of Gucci last night and said it sucked. She said it was boring and everyone was stupid and it reminded her too much of her own family (minus the murder).

I was looking forward to this in theory because I really like Adam Driver and Lady Gaga, but then I saw them on Graham Norton and they seemed to both not get along and not be that proud of the movie - so I never bothered to watch it.

Ambulance:
Pretty good if you’re in the mood for a simple action film and can look passed the fact that IRL Los Angeles traffic is horrible any time of day… (As shown in the opening montage)
meanwhile during this the streets are conveniently empty when needed

I went and saw Sonic The Hedgehog 2 last weekend, the sequel double downed on every thing I loved about the first one. So many hilarious moments throughout the film, plus I got some cool stuff when I saw the movie (a comic book and poster). This is easily my favorite movie of the year so far. Also there's a mid-credit scene as well, no spoilers but you might want to stick around for that, as it sets up a potential third movie. I also recently watched the first two Fantastic Beasts movies with the fiancée. I'm not super big on the Wizarding World universe, but the fiancée is, so we watched them, as Secrets of Dumbledore comes out this weekend. Anyways, I thought they were good for what they were, plus Nifflers are cute AF so uh there's that as well. 2022 Movie Rankings 11. Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild 10. Dog 9. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania 8. Marry Me 7. Turning Red 6. Fireheart 5. The 355 4. The Lost City 3. The Batman 2. Scream 1. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Watching X and it is REALLY good. I seen people were very torn on this, but it is a love level to the exploitation era of films and is Ti's best horror film. Likely his best film but not seen his spaghetti western yet. Everything that made House of the Devil great, without the LONG periods of slow burn. And as an exploitation film, he took the best that grindhouse had to offer, and put it all in one films with dozens of throwback shots.
Absolutely crazy editing given all the times Maxine and Pearl interacted.
Prequel Pearl still on for a release later this year as since they were all locked down, they shot for a few extra weeks to get a second film done at the same time. I really hope this is also a period piece for the Coney Island era.
Jenna Ortega having a killer year as a scream queen. Between this and Scream she solidified herself as a star, and Wednesday is still to come later this year.

Morbius - my expectations were super super low, and honestly it wasn’t that bad. It was a decent enough movie, I would watch it again and I didn’t feel like I was suffering the entire time. The special effects were left to be desired and reminded me a lot of Werewolf Apocalypse game that came out last year. Needed more Jared Leto ab shots though. Matt Smith was pretty damn good in it.
Sonic 2 - pretty average and funny. Not as good as the first one, but I really liked it. I feel like it was more targeted towards adults with this one and not kids though. They really need to sort out who their target audience mainly is. The Vin Diesel and The Rock joke was amazing.
X - what in the fuck. I love gory/horror movies but it was just super weird. And not ‘oh this is weird and unique that everyone needs to see it because of how memorable this is’ no it’s weird as in I have no fucking clue what’s happening half of the time. The editing and cinematography while unique and pretty well done just makes it hard to follow for casual movie goers (I could never suggest this movie to my mum and she’s a huge horror fanatic). The best part about the movie tbh, is none of the main people I actually wanted to die - they were pretty decent and normal people. Usually in horror movies I can’t wait to see them die, but this one I actually liked them and thought they deserved to live. Odd. Yay for the gore though.
Ambulance - the movie was way funnier than it had any right to be. I was not expecting it to be so funny. Pretty decent story, that felt a tad long but overall it worked well the suspense and the characters. Jayke Gyllenhaal is amazing as always. I don’t think he has ever done a bad performance even in his movies I hate. Definitely recommend checking this one out. Was just a super great fun popcorn action flick.

The Lost City - super cute and funny movie. It’s definitely predictable being a rom-com, but it kept me laughing and interested in the storyline. The chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum was amazing, and Brad Pitt’s cameo was the best.
They really managed to grab the most gorgeous people ever for this movie.
Daniel Radcliffe as a villain is always weirdly fun. Enjoyed him in this, though I do think he needed more screen time.

Oh good to know @ sandylea . Mom and I have been anxious for that one. We tried to watch The Bubble on Netflix on Saturday night (not for kids BTW). I don't know why we thought it would be good. Maybe cause I like some of the actors in it? We lasted halfway through and had to turn it off. It stopped being 'funny' and more stupid and I was done. Then we watched a documentary on RBG. That was a million times better.

The Wrestler (Darron Aronofsky, 2007)
Second time watching. I don't recall being impressed when I watched it years ago, but now I have a greater appreciation for the dramatic side.
A heartbreaking tragic hero story that absolutely needs a commanding performance to make it work, and Mickey Rourke delivered the goods. He's a pathetic figure, not the smartest guy or the most eloquent, but you can feel in equal parts his passion for wrestling and the immense regrets that weigh him down so much. You have to root for the guy. Despite all his mistakes he's trying the best he can to live his life and lift up those around him, truly a good person suffering hard times.
His apology to his daughter was incredibly well scripted and acted. I cried. The promo he cut before the final match of the movie was also brilliant. Straight from the heart.
While Marisa Tomei's performance was not bad at all, she would be far from my top list of Best Supporting Actresses.

Northman cams leaked. Watching now. It is good. REALLY good. All of the atmosphere of his old films, but with a lot more set pieces since he has a budget. And holy shit did he put it to use, the film is beautify and the locations alive. I am on a shit cam capture and it is beautiful.
Feels the perfect mix of Game of Thrones, Braveheart and Hamlet. The story is one that has been done many times, but this may be my favorite take on it.
Fairly sure heard Heilung a few times in the background and the music scene reak of them. They were def in the most recent trailer.
Saw some reviews that were turned off it is epic fantasy and said it was too pretentious, but if you are into epics, then this is just the right amount of over the top shit.
Gonna be the first blu-ray I buy in over a decade.

The Batman (Matt Reeves; 2022)
The movie is more of a contemporary take on the caped crusader with a younger cast rising up against the corrupt boomers and learning some inconvenient truths along the way.
Pattinson portrays Batman like an urban legend where once the Batman symbol fills the sky, criminals have to live in dread because lurking in the shadows is this ruthless vigilante. I really enjoyed the way they introduced him through a series of montages and his reveal to the remixed version of Nirvana's 'Something In The Way' gave him this ominous presence. The way the movie was able to contrast this almost eerily nightmarish appearance with hard-hitting and ruthless action scenes made them feel far more intense and satisfying than typical super-hero fare. It was something I'd hope the movie could maintain through out, but there were times where it would get comically sloppy with Batman taking all sorts of punishment only to shrug it off and send the offender flying.
The movie to me was at it's best when Batman was trying to infiltrate the seedy under-belly of Gotham and using the aid of Selina Kyle to uncover the extent of police corruption. There's a scene where Batman gives Selina a special contact lense that captures her perspective and IDs whoever she comes into contact with which was a really enjoyable sequence.
Speaking of, I thought the acting was largely spot on. I really enjoyed Pattinson's take on Batman, not so much Bruce Wayne who has some really petulant lines. I like the idea of the Batman persona interfering and consuming his life but there were some scenes with Alfred where he just came across as emo. Zoe Kravitz played a very sensual version of Kyle and was great in the role, Dano played a suitably insane and menacing Riddler. I liked how Riddler was like this Baked Alaska type figure bandying the other incel/loner types to rise-up. Then there was Farrell's portrayal of the Penguin which was completely unrecognisable. He was a scene stealer but it kind of felt like they under-wrote his part since he's effectively just a red herring.
I wouldn't call it an all-time classic by any means. It borrows a ton from Fincher and the Nolan trilogy and the only thing it really adds is more world-building. The movie has four villains involved and they teased a 5th right at the end setting up a sequel. I enjoyed myself, but I didn't fall in love with it like I expected to. A Batman movie in the vein of Fincher? Sign me up. Unfortunately it doesn't quite get there.

I loved this take on Batman and think this will be a fun series of films. What I loved was the focus on the detective side of Batman for once. Penguin in the film was basically a backdoor pilot, he has a show coming. Joker sequel also coming which is weird since the main Joker scene was cut from the film. Finally, part of the deal of doing sequels was an Arkham Asylum series is also coming. Assume the two series sets up the Joker being freed and Penguin rising to power to set up that second film.
///
Still thinking of the Northman. Feels like it could it easily be a FromSoftware Game. Same tone, same level of over the topness, same environmental atmosphere and same level of violence. All it is missing is vulgar magic. Cannot wait to see what is next for Eggers.

The Batman did make me hopeful for a future world here. God dude I even loved everything about that deleted scene. While I wasn't in love with the overall movie (felt the first hr kinda dragged on... maybe that's why they haven't focused on the detective work but suppose it's better than another origin story) I do feel it was worth seeing. The escape with the flying squirrel wings was kinda LOL worthy just how he ate shit at the end, but it also made it seem way more realistic than these acts usually come off. Makes sense as I'm sure this was early Bats as I can't imagine a seasoned one being captured by the cops like that. This is what I want from my DC properties, self-contained universes. Ya know how we did things before MCU.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent:
I can see why Nicolas Cage had some objections to his portrayal as it definitely feels like a caricature rather than him playing himself honestly. Amazing that he’s such a pro that he just went along with it anyway.
Hilarious film otherwise.

I love him claiming he has issues with the film, when he also produced the film.
Scene that got me was him arguing about the reaction to him doing so many films and saying people do not value hard working anymore. With the whole antiwork stuff it is just perfect timing. Also describes him perfectly. He is a Coppola that won an oscar real early on, what else could be do really? So why not cash in and just pound out movies and becomes the man who can sell more films a year than anyone else. He has two duds a year but three films that at least are marketable each year, that is far more than most actors can claim. And his hit rate is increasing.

The Bad Guys: Cute, funny and easily the best of the three movies I ended up watching this weekend. Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore: I liked it for what it was. I'm not really a fan of the Wizarding World, but this was the best of the three Fantastic Beasts movies IMO. Morbius: Things started off slow but eventually picked up, with some cool (visually) action scenes. Having said that, as someone who has seen every Marvel movie in theaters since the first X-Men film released (2000), this was one of my least favorite experiences watching a superhero flick. I will say though, I loved both of the mid credit scenes and I’m intrigued to see where they go from there. 2022 Movie Rankings 14. Ice Age: Adventures of Buck Wild 13. Dog 12. Hotel Transylvania: Transformania 11. Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore 10. Morbius 9. Marry Me 8. Turning Red 7. The Bad Guys 6. Fireheart 5. The 355 4. The Lost City 3. The Batman 2. Scream 1. Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was okay. I think I went in with expectations that were a bit too high. It was funny, but the fake family storyline really distracted from the Nic Cage of it all.
Lost City was also okay, made me want to watch Romancing the Stone.

Fright Night (2011)
I always put this one off because I wasn't a huge fan of the original but man was I wrong , this movie is awesome and up there with some of the best horror remakes ever. First of all - Colin Farrell is awesome as the lead vampire and as crazy as it sounds , this is one of his best performances I can remember. He brings such gravitas and so much fear to that role that easily could have came off hokey. The rest of the cast is stellar as well with Toni Collete , McLoving and Yelick (?) all being great in their roles.
It's got legit horror , some great comedic moments and pays great respect to the genre. Has a little Lost Boys feel in the end as well. It might actually be my 2nd favorite Vampire movie behind Lost Boys.

Sonic 2 was a lot of fun again, not much more to say, again, not the best of movies, but much better than it had any right to be, very charming. I hope they cap it off with a trilogy and let it be, not sure they can stretch it much further.

I'm not normally this guy, but you should really go see it on the big screen, c It wasn't a perfect film and had some pacing issues but visually it was one of the most beautiful movies I've seen in years. Also loved how accurately RE tried to portray Nordic culture rather than overtly romanticizing it. It's certainly not everyone's cup of tea and not what I expected (went in with zero expectation/pretense) but I really enjoyed it and finished out my yearly monthly large cherry ICEE quota so I'm a happy camper. But if you're someone who is going in expecting 95% action scenes, you will ultimately leave disappointed. EDIT - Another reason to watch: Nicole Kidman actually does some real acting in this one. It was like finding a theatrical needle in a cinematic haystack.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent - absolutely hilarious. I loved every second of it. Even almost spat out my drink from laughing.
Doctor Strange 2 - super enjoyable. Very much in the horror/dark side which made it even better.
The Northman - enjoyable but way way too long. Definitely couldn’t watch it again. The cast was brilliant, and took me by surprise with the storyline a few times. —————- at the cinemas ^^^————-
I’ve been catching up on movies I’ve saved to lists on whatever streaming service I have. So there’s quite a lot there.
The French Dispatch - I really wanted to like it, but it was super boring. It had such interesting ideas but constantly fell flat.
Spontaneous - pretty great film tbh. There is a lot of blood/gore in it considering students are just exploding, but the idea/storyline is pretty interesting. I really liked Katherine’s performance. Made me a bit sad.
Cellular - Film from 2009, surprised I haven’t seen it before given it has Chris Evans and Jason Statham in it. I really enjoyed it. Funny seeing old phones being used and the problems they had.
Wild Mountain Thyme - I have no idea how a cast this good, made a movie so bad. It was boring and the accents, holy shit. I regret watching it based on that alone tbh.
The Lost Daughter - I get the meaning behind it, that not every women is meant to be a mother/wants to be a mum etc. but it was painfully boring and the editing was just all over the place. Even the cast seemed bored out of their minds.
365 Days This Day - Look I watched this for one reason and one reason only. The sex. The first 30 minutes is all sex and then it goes downhill with the story from there. The story just makes very little sense, and I know they are adapting it from the books but I feel like they either dramatically changed it or left a lot out. This is not a masterpiece by any means, but a lot of women are still going to watch it and will want their men to watch it. For umm educational purposes. Keen for the next film regardless.

Spiderman: No Way Home
I know some critics have called it the best MCU film ever... I thought, like all the Tom Holland movies, it was.. good. The obvious high points are the inclusion of the other Spidermen and character development, but I wouldn't suggest it was amazing in any aspects.
I've described the trilogy as 'easily accessible' as they are fun movies, and that's what works here. It's fun. But to suggest, it's the best MCU film...

Finally got around to watching "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion," since the sequel is out soon. Film is written and directed by Park Hoon-jung, the guy who penned the script for I Saw the Devil.
Story takes a bunch of tropes common in horror anime and puts them together. Girl experimented on that develops psychic powers, then kills everyone in the lab and escapes blending into a normal family with no memory of the secret past. She goes on to appear on an idol competition and uses magic to levitate a microphone, staging it as stage magic, which leads to the people behind the lab, and other people with magic powers who were experimented on coming to find her.
Slow burn, but gets amazing in the second half. As intense as I Saw the Devil, but it takes it's time and bleeds atmosphere. And like I Saw the Devil, gets twisty as all hell in the end.
Also one of the best takes on psychic powers as modern magic. And the effects were done very, very well without overdoing things at all.
Very cool K-Horror film I strongly recommend.

Luckily they settled a bit in the middle, but the assholes never shut up, including the father. Great film I thought, not top 10, but enjoyable start to finish, wish some great visuals, and surprisingly brutal endings. Windfall - My expectations were low but I expected something mildly entertaining or even good acting at least with the cast, but god damn it was so so boring. Not at all surprised I haven't heard of it before.
Choose or Die - This could've been really good, but they decided to just not do that. The idea is interesting but the performances and the 'games' were so flat. Thankfully it was very short so I didn't have to suffer for long.
The Jack in the Box: Awakening - My mum loves horror movies, all of them. The good, the bad, and just the OH MY GOD WHY WAS THIS MADE, and that falls into that category. It was so bad. The performances/the storyline/the 'gore'. It wasn't even funny bad, it was just BAD. I have a few horror movies she gave me to watch and I feel like they are going to fall into this category as well.
Along for the Ride - Pretty predictable and corny, I enjoyed it for what it is. Definitely aimed at a young female audience. I don't imagine any males wanting to watch this and/or enjoy it. I'm even starting to feel a bit old watching movies around whiney teenagers trying to have the perfect relationship/job at 20. Seeing Kate Bosworth in the movie was good to see her again in a film - I actually feel like they should've had more of her in the movie. Also the fact they had a good step daughter/step mum relationship was really refreshing.

I Saw The Devil is great but from what you've described this film doesn't interest me so much. Seems like a rehash of Ringu 2, where they go into the backstory of Sadako and reveal her mother's life is exactly like the character in this film. But I'll check it out anyway.
