Also, Friday nights are death sentences for TV. And it's also why networks do sports or reruns on Saturday.

Season 5 of Sopranos is an emotional wringer man. Rough stuff. Fuck yes! Your first time watching, or running through the greatness again for nostalgia's sake? Just a rewatch. I hadn’t seen the whole series probably in five years or more so I decided to start over because it had faded a bit. It has a lot of rough spots, but Falco and Gandolfini are so great.

I just caught up on S7 of Shameless, really good season. Probably the best season since S4. Carl's evolution of a character has been so great. Lip's struggles and Fiona's stories were both really solid. There really wasn't anything I could knock this season on. It felt very fresh. I think they could have ended the series on that final episode and I would have been ok with it but I know they have at least one more season to go.
And caught up on the first 3 season of Power and it is just so much damn fun. It's kind of like The Wire but take out all the social issues. lol. Just so entertaining.
First episode of S3 of MR. Robot...I wasn't feeling it. Maybe I was tired but I just wasn't into it. I'm sure it will get better as it goes along though.
And LOVING S2 of This Is Us. Such great storytelling and just hits my emotional notes a lot. It will be interesting to see how they handle the Jack character going forward. We know kind of his time table of his death and it seems bound to be revealed by seasons end how it all went down but he's such a big part of the show it's hard to picture it without him.

Must've had a free HBO weekend because I managed to catch 3 episodes of the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Can't get over the pickle jar or Larry becoming "bad boy" George.

I've given up on The Big Bang Theory. It just became really redundant. The jokes got tired and besides Amy the woman characters became useless. Seemingly only sticking to around to make fun or loathe the choices of their significant other. It has Sheldon and Amy but the rest of the characters are written like garbage most of the time. All that being said I'll feel weird going against my completist nature.

I still like BBT and enjoy most of the characters. Only thing that annoys me is the 180 they did with Bernadette and kids. Before she was pregnant she wanted nothing to do with them. She had several scenes where she expressed not wanting her life ruined.
But I guess after 8 or 9 seasons they had to bring children into the mix because they were running low on ideas. That and not a whole lotta comedy to be had out of abortions...

I started watching Vikings, only three episodes into the series, but I'm enjoying it so far. I've always been vaguely interested in checking this show out, and I think my wife might be onboard because of the lead actor guy (Jax Teller lookalike?)... So I'd be interested in getting your thoughts on the series. Do the first few episodes have a hook to get you in quick and keep you engaged? Or is it one of those shows that you have to be patient with and let grow on you?

Finished The Sopranos tonight for probably my first full rewatch since it ended. Strikes me how tonally different the show becomes first with the passing of Livia and even more so after Ralphie goes away from the comedy of big glasses Junior, suffocating his mother, and a guy named Big Pussy down deep into a depressing quagmire.
The strength of the show remained Gandolfini and Falco. Holy shit those two together were dynamic and seeing Falco in other things only reinforced it. Gandolfini though is just amazing, the best single acting performance I think in the last twenty years of tv.
A lot of the stories and actors around the show were pretty rough... but none more than the kids. Both were awful actors and got mired in terrible stories that I often wanted to zip through.
I also didn’t care for how the therapy ended. She at times seemed to take some pleasure in solving his work troubles, so then she got mad she was making him more sociopathic?
In the end the show was better than I remembered, but it remained for me too ragged and loose in nature to compete with shows much more consistently strong like Breaking Bad.

Falco has been killing it in the new Law And Order True Crime: The Menendez Brothers show I've been watching, last week's episode she was especially good. Last night's episode was also a good one.

Finished the second season of Stranger Things, another really entertaining season, one of the best shows at the moment (not tippy top, but top 10..might just sneak into the top 5), but upon finishing the season one thing occurred to me. I'm not really left with anything to talk about, not sure if it's the binge format, but while entertained almost start to finish, doesn't really leave much of an impression beyond being well made. Like, after every episode of Game of Thrones I feel the desire to pour back over everything I just saw, even Walking Dead leaves with regular talking points, but with Stranger Things, being entertaining is about the only conversation that comes to mind. Well, also the kid who plays Will does a fantastic horror face at one point in the season, just incredibly disturbing (but still a bit goofy).
Oh...and how banging Mike's mom is.

Oh...and how banging Mike's mom is. Almost good enough for Don Draper. I think it’s the binge format that leaves you without much to talk about, because if the show were week to week the cliffhangers would be deliberated ad nauseum. Plus it’s much more popcorn fluff than the first five seasons of GoT were (the last two though... a lot of fluff on GoT too). I’ve still got two episodes to go, but I’ve got it in the top five of my shows for the year but bottom of that list. It was my favorite show last year, but this season has had a slower build to the climax and episode seven especially was an understandable swing but a miss of an episode. Not coming close to The Leftovers and a few other shows ahead of it for me too. But I really came in to mention catching up on Great News, that show is funny in a very familiar Tina Fey / 30 Rock way.

I liked the first couple seasons of Catfish but the show really gets repetitive after awhile. I do still enjoy the train wreck that is Teen Mom 2. Just watching horrible decision making play out in front of your very eyes, it's a really weird thing. Your just thinking to yourself "how does she not see how bad this guy is".

Catfish was my go-to guilty pleasure show back in the day. I remember the documentary and while I thought it was a load of shit, most docos are to some extent and it turned out to be a fascinating story. The best part of that show was that you couldn't get mad with the woman, she had it so rough with the two disabled children that you ultimately felt bad for her.
The reality show was enjoyable, but the people they had on were so unbelievably stupid that it became too hard to get invested. Was there ever an episode where the Catfish actually turned out hotter than the actual photo? It seemed like they went for every other angle, I was holding out for something like that or a dumb episode where the Catfish pretends to be Max or Ronaldo.
Lately I've been watching through Vice Principals with Danny McBride and Walton Goggins. It's right up to the series finale and while the story appears to be finalised, it wouldn't be too surprising to learn that there's one final twist in the murder plot. I can't get enough of McBride's work. It isn't always laugh out loud funny, but he usually nails the drama portion and doesn't pull any punches. Goggins was awesome in the Hateful Eight and he's awesome here as well as a complete and utter psychopath - he's almost like Buffalo Bill if he remained in the closet.
Also watching the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. I'm relatively new to the show, I caught the odd marathon here and there on cable otherwise I've only seen the first couple of seasons. Despite being off the air for a few years, the show hasn't skipped a beat and I loved Funkhouser in the latest episode getting busted for his fake text scheme. I can't decide who I like better, Funkhouser or Richard who can't seem to cop a break whenever he's around LD. As somebody who didn't grow up with Seinfeld, I find myself enjoying Curb more. There's only so far you can go with that four camera sit-com format, the HBO mockumentary style is more my taste.
Also watching through Stranger Things and Mindhuter. I've got two episodes to go in both and enjoy both immensly. I've always been fascinated with criminology and so Mindhunter is like a goldmine, easily one of the better crime shows I've seen. Stranger Things is great. Like a lot of these Netflix shows, you get these rabbid fans who try and sell it as the second-coming but as an homage to Stephen King it's right up my alley and I thought the second season did a great job of living up to the first - no mean feat. Mike and Mike, I completely get where you're coming from with these on-demand shows. Trying to have a conversation about shows like this and the Ozarks was so rough because everyone is at different places and the show changes so much from one episode to the next.
