I don't binge watch, so I've been going through Stranger Things season 2 at a slow pace. I just watched the apparently infamous seventh episode. You know, the episode dedicated to Eleven's adventures in some big city with a poor man's Mr. Robot/Suicide Squad gang. It was bad and completely pointless. What did you guys think of the episode? It damn near derailed the season, but was thankfully unsuccessful.

I would’ve been mostly okay with the Eleven episode if it came somewhere else in the season. But the show leaves on its best cliffhanger of the season to go to a different story with nothing about it.
the episode was pretty crummy, and happening where it happened made it feel so much worse.

The sad thing was, I was genuinely curious about them after the cold open to season two and looked forward to learning about them. When they first appeared I was actually happy they were going to touch on them again but the episode just fell flat.
It reminded me a lot of Skins, which isn't a good thing.

I think I mentioned this on the old board, but I wasn't super into Stranger Things S2. It felt like Season 1, episode 9. Ultimately, it didn't contribute greatly to the mythology, we didn't learn anything more about the Upside Down or anything about anything, it was more of the same. Which is fine enough for what it is but doesn't make me super hyped for S3.
Something I never thought I'd say: I powered through Riverdale S1 and I am ALL ON BOARD. I have a friend who tried ep 1 and didn't dig it, so maybe you have to know who the Archie characters are to really get into it. It doesn't reinvent the characters too crazily IMO, but... take Betty, for example. In the comics Betty is the perfect girl next door, Riverdale sort of touches on what it takes to be the perfect girl every moment of the day and what sort of toll that takes on you. It pushes Riverdale as a small-town, big secrets sort of place.

I'm 50/50 on Riverdale, keeping me just enough to ride out the mysteries, but if there was a conflict on my DVR and I was forced to choose, I'd drop it in a heart beat.

So finished up Big Little Lies...just awesome. I 100% didn't see the finale twist coming but looking back on it I really should have. I'm kind of annoyed they are doing a season 2 because to me I feel this can only go down hill from here. That was a perfect finale.
Still trying to get into the first season of Leftovers. To me it's been kind of hit and miss thus far. I'm about 5 eps in I think.
I still haven't even got around to watching the final 3 eps of American Horror Story: Cult yet. It's one of those things where I was into the show but then I just instantly lost interest to finish it.

I'm about 7 episodes deep into my Blu Ray for X-Files season 4, the first 3 seasons I have on DVD, they really did a great job remastering this for HD on Blu Ray, it looks great on my 55 inch 4K curve. I bought the 4K Blu Ray player finally on Black Friday, the only reason I waited a full year to buy it was that there aren't really any good 4K Blu Ray movies out(and last year when I was looking at them the cheapest ones I could find were around $400, I got mine on sale for $100 this year). The 4K Blu Rays are like $25-$30, I guess part of that is because they also include the regular Blu Ray version along with the 4K, which seems like overkill to me. Wouldn't it be better to just sell the 4K Blu Ray alone to cut the cost down some? I mean, I don't really need an extra Blu Ray copy. But whenever I peruse the 4K Blu Ray section at Best Buy or Wal Mart for the past year it always reminds me of that one scene in the first season of Sopranos where they boost all the DVD players and Tony is bitching because there aren't any good movies out on DVD(this was 1999), one of the younger thugs tells him that the sound quality is top notch and he replies sarcastically "Good. 'Cause nothing beats popping up some Orville Redenbacher's and listening to "Men in Black". Anyways yeah I forgot what I was talking about, X-Files season 4, I loved the cliff hanger at the end of season 3. Overall I enjoyed Season 3 much much more on this rewatch because I noticed a lot of little things about the main storyline that I missed before. The show really got comfortable within it's own skin during season three and was just charming as hell with great characters, a great story, a lot of action and some great swerves. Season 3 was absolutely the peak of the X-Files. Season 4 starts off strong with the follow up to the season 3 finale, but then it really drags along with some lame monster of the week episodes. And then there was Musings Of The Cigarette Smoking Man, the best episode of the season so far, one of the best episodes of the series by far. They go so fucking deep with this it still blows my mind. GOAT series. Watching this I can't help but wonder how much better X-Files would have been had it aired on HBO or Showtime, they had a lot of restrictions being on network television, but still managed to be so stylishly edgy.

THE best cop show of all time. With another Steven Bochco creation, NYPD Blue at #2. I've always held Southland in high regard, especially the more beat patrol focused parts. Best cop shows would make for a great countdown, IMO... What say you, UT!? Vaguely recall hearing of Hill Street Blues. Never seen a second of it. Used to dig Law & Order: SVU, and I guess it's still good for mindless entertainment, but reached a point somewhere along the way where I really started hating it's unrealistic presentation. Heard The Shield was good. Still need to check it out. Southland and The Wire are probably #2 and #1 offhand. I'll put more thought into this if it turn into an official countdown. Meanwhile, Wife and I finished Season 1 of Stranger Things. I think it's safe to say we understand the hype in hindsight now. Pretty fun little ride. We've started into Season 2 now. Like Narcos, I was originally thinking/wishing the story would've been all contained in a single season, and the second season is taking a bit to get me warmed up... BUT, I do like the unique spin of focusing on how characters deal with PTSD in the wake of something as traumatic as each experienced.

The Wire is the best cop show for my money. The Shield is a close second. Third watch coming in third....but it's a bit fuzzy if that is a legit cop show as it also focused on paramedics and firefighters. That isn't to say Hill Street Blues and NYPD blue are bad, I just haven't seen them.

Just wrapped up Stranger Things, Season 2. If Episode 7 gets heat, I kinda get why. Overall, I get why this show is hyped and beloved. Awesome ride through both seasons. Interested to see where Season 3 goes.

Finished up the first season of Leftovers last night. Overall I felt the second half was much more consistent in episode quality. The last four episodes were really good. The next to last episode where they focus on the days leading up to the rapture or whatever it is was a really strong episode that just hit me especially hard. There is a moment in that episode where Kevin is talking to his dad at the party talking about why the life he has isn't enough, he's got the wife and the kids and the job but there is still an empty void....I get that feeling big time, the fear of "is this all that's left for the rest of my life". It's a very real fear of mine and i've been in that mindset. Probably why i'm still single. Anyways overall it was a solid first season that I think I might enjoy as a whole on a second run through at some point. So onto season 2 we go.
Also been watching a shit ton of My 600 Pound Life. It's a real bummer but generally ends on a somewhat optimistic note once they have the weight loss surgery. It's just sad to see people get to that weight. 600 pounds in no accident that just sneaks up on you. That is some strong sense of either delusion or some deep trauma which in the majority of the cases seems to be the case. Either the weird uncle molested them or their mom hung herself in front of them as a child. It almost always seem to stem from some fucked up event.

Season one of Leftovers is good, but season two is so much better. Less wrapped up in its misery (though with plenty of misery left) and willing to be funny. Hope you enjoy it vendrell!

They should bring The Wire back for a mini series to properly wrap that thing up, show is surely way more popular now than it was back when it aired in real time, that last season went out on a whimper(it was still entertaining enough though).
I'm down to the last disc of my X-Files season 4 blu ray set. I never caught the little two part follow up to Fallen Angel from season 1 on any of my previous watch throughs, that was a great. El Mundo Gira, Paper Hearts, and Leonard Betts are great episodes too. Season 4 had a bigger feel to it since the show really took off and became such a hit, it doesn't have the charm of season 3 but it's still really high quality stuff.
Also I never realized before this watchthrough how much legit science is on this show, with all the paranormal stranger things there's always some real science being laid out by Scully to balance it all out, I love that.

You could always say The Wire is the best serialization cop show and Hill Street Blues the best procedural cop show. The Wire was actually pretty much an average show in real time ratings wise, but that's often the case. I think The Wire is what Homicide:Life On The Street would be, if it was on cable.

I did feel they made some errors in the final season of The Wire. I liked the newspaper story and the street level stuff is always good but the Mcnulty serial killer thing just came off as very untrue to what the show was. I mean it was still an entertaining storyline but to me it just always felt a bit silly. Plus the fate of certain characters in that season was a real let down. Not all but Omar in particular got a real shit end for such a beloved character. Some people bitched about Marlo's ending but I thought it was good. He got everything stringer bell ever wanted but chose the street and likely death or prison in the process since his muscle had been put down and he was no longer untouchable.Mcnulty and Lester getting kicked off the force was inevitable given where the storyline had went but kind of lame. I did like how the four corner boys all went on to become younger versions of other characters. Dookie becomes the new Bubbles. Randy lost to the streets and likely to become a street soldier and end up dead or prison like his dad Cheese. Naymond makes it out and is a productive member of society again like Cutty. and Michael becomes the new Omar. I thought each boy weather it was a depressing end or a good end for them, it all felt real.

Wife just mentioned this show last night when we were trolling Flix for something to watch. Settled on Big Mouth instead. By cover image and description, this looked similar to Stranger Things. Is it? Is it also a subtitle read? Or just because it's German made doesn't mean it's all in German?

This has me super intrigued. And also thinking/wondering what are some good TV shows to watch though twice that get better upon repeat viewing? I'm nervous Breaking Bad won't hold up, so I've never revisited.

I've not seen Stranger Things, but I've seen comparisons made, but have also seen those comparisons slapped down. I highly recommend it, subbed if you can; the dubbed version seemed like it took a lot away from the overal feel of the show.

I think I’ve said this a handful of times about The Deuce, but with Simon’s style I find that there’s just a lot of stuff missed by me as a viewer when I’m trying to figure out who everyone is. Season 4 especially with the kids I was astounded by how much I didn’t pick up on the first time through. I’m not sure if I’ve ever sat through all of Breaking Bad but a lot of it holds up. I can’t say it was better because it relied on suspense and surprise way more than The Wire and some of that naturally slips away... but I’ve not lost my love of Breaking Bad on rewatch. (Well except the finale because ugh)
