Weirdly enough , I have never seen 300 - despite that fact it seems right up my alley as a movie. I should really watch it someday though as the critic/audience divide seems about perfect.

300 is stupid, but it's a good kinda stupid. It was also a pop culture phenomenon at the time. "This is Sparta!" was a huge meme. It's not the kind of film I'd typically enjoy. Full of unsophisticated manly bravado, not much in terms of story. But somehow it works. Just outside my top 10.

What movie would it most compare to in your opinion?

Basically the same kind of stupid as any brainless action movie. Say, The Expendables. The fact that it was set in ancient Greece gave it a unique appeal. I don't say "brainless" as a criticism. It just means you don't have to think very hard while watching it. It's like a thrillride. These kind of films have their place, and they are often good fun.

300 was my #1 and I really didn't have to think hard about it. There was none of the hand wringing, navel gazing, or political wankery you tend to see in these kinds of films, just pure balls to walls entertainment.
Also the dark and moody atmosphere people tend to shit on Zack Snyder for works perfectly in this movie.

The Incredibles is such a good movie that I'm glad made the list , in good timing too considering the sequel is right around the corner. I've talked about it in the Pixar countdown but I just think it's a fantastic Superhero movie with some great laughs and even better voice work - especially by Craig T. Nelson. I think it made #9 on my list but it could have been a little higher - I know it was close for a bunch at the bottom.
Still can't believe how low the audience score is on this. So weird.

I think I misunderstood the stipulations.
I thought the movie had to be based on a non-DC/Marvel comic book source material. Unless there was an Incredibles comic book that I didn't know about?
Either way though, I probably would've abstained from Incredibles anyway since it got discussion in the Pixar countdown. It is a GREAT super hero movie though. So the more recognition it gets, the better.

Oh man I didn't think if Incredibles. I went with strictly based on comics. Would've placed several spots higher if not.

I still consider it the best Fantastic 4 movie ever made. For what is supposed to be a family film it is a VERY dark movie. I think that turned off quite a few parents.

Yeah when I read “non-Marvel/DC” movie I just assumed based on comics since all their movies are.
300 made my list. As far as comic adaptations go, it’s easily one of the best. It’s an extremely entertaining movie and visually stunning. Can’t go wrong.

Mask was my #1 so a tad disappointed it's this low. Loved it as a kid. Haven't seen it since probably middle school so I wonder if it holds up or not. Also has to be Cameron Diaz's peak hotness.

The Mask was the second leg of a HUGE 1994 for Carrey in the movies that really introduced him to the public and put him on the map as one of the biggest comedy actors of the decade. Also The Mask was about as perfect as movie as he could ask for too - as it's really just a display of what he does best.
I haven't actually seen the movie forever but I watched it a TON as a kid and me and all my elementary chums quoted it ad nauseum , it was pretty much the coolest thing we'd ever seen at the point ... even if a handful of the jokes really went over our heads. All we knew is that The Mask was cool , this blonde bank girl (Diaz) was SMOKIN and it was cool to spell PARTY in the mirror.
Also great fucking bad guy in this movie.

The Mask fell just outside of my top 10. I enjoyed the hell out of it when I was younger, but it hasn't held up as well as the other films on my list.

The Mask always annoyed the fuck out of me, even when I was a lot younger and worshipped (almost) everything Jim Carrey did.

I loved Ace Ventura as a kid. Thought it was the funniest thing ever. It hasn't aged well though. Now it's pretty cringey. Difference is, The Mask was always cringey.

The original Ace Ventura still holds up in a ton of spots , I wouldn't be surprised if The Mask doesn't. I'd be interested in seeing how a Jim Carrey list shakes out down the line - he definitely has the movie library to get a top ten. I have a definitive top three I know.

The Mask didn't even sniff my top ten. That movie was dumb.
300 came in at #8 on my list and I think it was one of the best comic adaptations ever. So that tells me some of my top picks aren't going to make the top ten and it's going to make me jaded and upset.

If you don't like The Mask you deserve it! And if we do Carrey it's getting my #1 again!

The Mask was my #10, but ended up getting bumped for a movie I had forgotten about, I still think it's hilarious. Incredibles was my #2, just a pure joy start to finish. I DID forget about 300, just didn't occur to me.

I hadn't seen The Crow since the nineties , so I rewatched it quick before making my list and man what a weirdly great fucking movie. There are so many things while watching that I knew I could tear apart , the corniness of the bad guys is tops on my list , the acting of the little girl was distracting (and I don't ever care about that) , Ernie Hudson was pretty damn corny and some of the dialogue is insufferably corny and yet I was so fucking engrossed and in love with what I was watching I can barely explain it.
I think a ton of that credit goes to Brandon Lee's incredible charisma as Draven , without him that character doesn't work but he nails it and ties the whole movie together. I know he died on set but since this is the only real thing I know of him now - I wonder what that career would have looked like. Also nostalgia helps and not the nostalgia of the movie itself but it is one of the most "90's" things I have ever seen. Everything about the movie screams nineties including a bunch of my complaints. And it's all okay - I don't know it's so weird.
For a movie that I've now only probably seen twice and hadn't seen since I was too young to really appreciate anything to make it to the top five of my list is awesome. It's an experience and The Crow is going to be in the rotation now for sure.

No love for The Crow from before? Anyways ... Sin City is a movie I could definitely talk about forever , I fucking love it and it was #2 on my list and one of my favorites of all time. I remember being semi obsessed with it when it came out , seen it in the theatre and instantly bought it on DVD. I'd just never seen anything like it , so beautiful and uniquely looking , such weird yet fun dialogue and a cast of characters that just don't quit.
There's no argument that this is Jessica Alba's peak hotness and I would even argue her role and time in this movie is a top three hottest movies babes of all time. It's just incredible and sticks out like a sore thumb even now when you go back to watch it - I'm not afraid to admit I had a giant poster of her , from this movie on my wall growing up. Despite the fact she made out with an old man at the end.
This was also my introduction for Mickey Rourke who has probably the best all around character in the movie in Marv. I could have spent so much more time with Marv and it's a shame we didn't get to but he was fucking awesome and the perfect first story in this little trilogy of stories.
I loved the prostitutes as well , especially deadly little Miho. I wanted to see more of this world so badly , it was that way with most of the movie but especially the prostitutes who had such an interesting little world.
And then this cast , I listed some of the big names but also: Michael Clarke Duncan , Brittany Murphy , Elijah Wood , Benicio Del Toro , Powers Booth , Josh Hartnett , Carla Gugino - and a bunch of other people who you recognize instantly like Jamie King or Alexa Bledel. Just brilliantly of it's era and all do awesome in their roles.
