Rebuild of Evangelion is easily the peak of anime in my books.
So whats hot and whats not in the anime world? Got the next 4 months on parental leave and want to catch up on the last few years of anime.
Already got a backlog of dbz super and fan cut versions of one piece ready to go!

Sup Monkey. Married life and kids? Nice, I got that going for me as well. I'll be honest, I haven't watched a whole lot of anime, over the past few years (outside of Attack on Titan, My Hero, and One Punch Man), although did like Chainsaw Man.

I have found myself enjoying some Anime recently, I have watched most of DBZ... Well had it playing while doing other things because there are glaciers that move faster than the plots... The movies are better than the series. Really liked Baki and Kengan Ashura on Netflix. Not much chance of me descending into it too much because I think the ending of Neon Evangelion is stupid.Apart from that I have watched most of the Gundam. What really comes through is a very deep sense of self loathing in the Japanese psyche. Which ending? The TV series, which apparently no one but me liked, or the initial sets of movies which was made because no one liked the TV ending?
It's been forever since I've seen it but I kinda remember the TV ending being the way it was because the studio ran out of money -- like you mentioned, though, it referred to deep seated self loathing and was an introspective adventure where Shinji mostly came to terms with things; that he could define himself however he wanted and not be a giant robot pilot because that's what his dad wanted, and that pain is part of the human experience and it's better to open yourself up to the world than run away from it.
But the fans complained about no giant robots fighting for the fate of the world so the movies got made, and the world comes to a bloody end with everyone but Shinji and Asuka ascending. Good job fans!
Rebuild is pretty dope tho. Not a standalone reboot so you'd have to see the original first

I only watched the series and end of Evangelion IIRC where do I go from here? I'd say the Rebuilds, because that's what I did. I know there's some various comics and game spinoffs that are supposed to add to the lore but IIRC that's like Star Wars canon (well, before Eps 7-9 blew them all out), the games and novels and everything are officially part of the universe and count but really just the core movies are fine and you don't have to consume all 8713498796313 pieces of media.
Rebuilds were kindasorta pitched as a remake with modern CGI, but it quickly becomes clear that it's a Groundhog Day-style reset where it's a reboot and continuation of the OG series.

Anime seems like the only medium where skipping filler is just seen as normal. If someone suggested skipping multiple episodes of a TV series, people would freak out and say you miss important plot points. Or just yeah “skip movie x” in a franchise.
Like Oda tweeting that you can basically start from recent editions of the One Piece manga. I can’t imagine an author saying “yeah skip all my books and jump to near the end of the series” 🥴.
Is there something I’m missing here and they are just like episodes of RAW where there is so much pointless stuff to skip through?

Probably just wants people paying attention to his current stuff and thinks starting from scratch is too intimidating. And maybe even unnecessary? Live action bound to get more seasons, maybe it can eat up manga chapters. But there's also a rumored one piece kai style speed up of older seasons. Maybe he wants eyes on his current stuff until that comes out and feels the high page/episode count is too intimidating. "I don't know these people" Oda be like bruv I'll throw in some flashbacks I got you b. You with me cuz frfr. It IS on the same level as rewinding it back to Raw 93 watching Shawn and Jannetty until current. Raw's been on longer than the one piece anime, but she ain't that much older... Luffy doing new powers but he's the same, you can catch up to that other shit later. <_< So he should hurry up. GOT likely a no. Berserk guy died robbing the world of an ending. It's time.
With anime filler it really is NOTHING. It's basically jobber of the week style stuff. Or in OP's case super slow dbz style. You can skip good chunks of anime like this cuz it's on every week. It's more weekly soap opera than anything else. They repeat enough beats to keep you informed.

I’d say this will probably be the starting point for a lot of people that liked the live action.

I agree with @ness that a lot of anime, particularly the ones that put in stuff not from the manga to wait for the actual story to conclude (like Naruto is famous for), does have some completely nonsense filler and you aren't going to miss out on important plot points. However, due to my OCD I insist to watch every episode of everything in order anyway. And I definitely feel like this sentiment has overflowed beyond the point where it makes sense, with anime fans being a lot more willing to say "skip the first 20 episodes!" or whatever of actual manga content. I think this is silly. So I agree with System as well that skipping shit is seen as way too normal in the anime community and people making such recommendations should be burned alive. In other news, I finally got around to watching Erased and it was pretty amazing. Way better than all two thousand episodes of One Piece. And I have seen a whole one episode of One Piece. You could say ONE PIECE OF IT is all I needed.

That's the biggest issue with these shounen shows, they never take long breaks. Maybe a week or two here or there, otherwise they are on every week with no repeats. Since the mangas are still being written (and the author like GRRM probably a lot richer now so they aren't motivated as much...) they run out of stuff and gotta make up their own fillers until they have more source material but they can't branch off too far since the main story will need to be told at a moment's notice. Naruto actually had a decent spot to do it since there was an upcoming time skip. Maybe focusing on actual training and make it an anthology of different characters rather than Naruto we got this mission for you, forget about Sasuke for a bit. What's the mission Hokage sama? This cat is in a tree... this boulder is blocking the mailbox... <_<

Had some time, so I jumped into Attack on Titan, good shit, especially the animation, though season 4 really worked on my watch weakness, divided attention. Video games, undivided attention, but I have a problem of fucking about when watching things, so I kept having to rewind like "Wait, what the fuck just happened?" But I enjoyed it.
Speaking of, Hulu for some reason had the ENTIRE SERIES in dubbed...EXCEPT THE LAST TWO EPISODES. So, I got a 2 week trial at Crunchyroll and jumped into a couple anime I watched a little bit wayback when on Toonami.
Trigun, really do loves me some Vash, but I also fucked up in the second half and missed a lot of important shit so I don't actually know what happened. Gotta rewatch it again some day.
Then I watched Yu Yu Hakusho, was really good, but Jesus suffering fuck that first tournament is just WAY too god damn long. Damn near half the series is just that tournament, just too much, they could have cut everything but the last bracket and not lost much. Then, ironically, the final tournament felt incredibly rushed (was like 6 or 7 episodes counting setup) , that could have used a little bit of breathing room. Enjoyed it for the most part though, just wish it had a couple more arcs and not like 40 episodes of one tournament. Everything outside of the Dark Tournament was more entertaining.

Unlike wrestling on TV where most people feel like they have to or want to so they can stay engaged in conversation, I simply go at my own pace when watching anime.

Man, RIP Funimation. the streaming service is shutting down (also taking anything customers bought) and with the merge with CrunchyRoll, customers of the service is getting a giant price hike. Almost double. Anybody using these services currently?
