I haven't seen The Fugitive in forever , and I barely remember much of the beats of it so I didn't feel comfortable putting it on my list. I wanted to rewatch it soon enough for the countdown but couldn't find the time with the holidays and all that - I'm thinking I might have time this afternoon.
Seems really highbrow for a 90's action move though. 7 Oscar nominations and one win , 96% by critics ... I'm excited to revisit it as it'll probably feel like the first time.

The Fugitive did not make my list but it's probably a top 20 for me easily. Such an iconic action movie. I'll never forget my favourite scene:

The Fugitive was a very late cut for me, would have fell just outside the my top 10. The film has more of a suspense/political thriller feel to it than an action one. Still a great watch though.

This is kinda how I felt about it. Not a bad movie by any means, just not enough action for me to justify a Top 10 spot on my list for this.

So I just watched it like I said I was going to , and it is definitely a great movie with a marvelous TLJ performance. Also cool seeing Julianne Moore , Jane Lynch and Joey Pants as bit players. Still don't think it would have made my personal top ten though , there is action and set pieces but overall like thereallt and 🤯 - it felt more suspense mystery to me. I don't think #10 is a bad spot for it though as it qualifies enough to be on the list but is going to suffer a bit compared to more pure action movies.

Also I forgot the biggest mark out moment for me...
Scrubs is my favorite show of all time , there's an episode where they figure out Janitor was in... The Fugitive. An earlier bit role for Neil Flynn... I totally forgot about that even being a thing so when he showed up it brought a huge smile to my face.

The Fugitive made my list. Somewhere in the middle. I let shinobimusashi be my guide for this. The Fugitive was on his big list. Therefore it counts as a 90s action movie. I have to admit without Shin's big list I probably wouldn't have considered it, taking the 🤯 & thereallt approach of 'not quite an action movie.' But I'm not about to doubt Nobi, and there were only 4-6 movies on his big list that I preferred to Harrison Ford & Tommy Lee Jones being awesome in The Fugitive.

Was lucky enough to see this in theaters when it came out what a great movie. My dad was huge Tommy Lee Jones mark so we went to see most of his movies in the 90s

I just feel like it needs to be stated and restated:
Tommy Lee Jones is such a great fucking actor, and doesn't get near the level of love he deserves. He's so fucking good in everything he's in, even if what he's in is trash (not saying Fugitive is trash).
He's like in that class of sleeper stars... People who no one questions their star status, but they're also not who spring immediately to mind when thinking of great actors. Kind of like Benecio Del Toro.
In fact, TLJ and BDT star opposite of each other in one of my all time personal favorite action movies: The Hunted.

I thought we were in for what I would have considered one of the biggest upsets in Top 10 history with Point Break not even making the list , thankfully it made a late charge and made it to the Top 10 - even if I think it's still low.
I thought for sure this would have been on most peoples lists , if not top five. To me and a lot of people I know - this is one of the essential action movies of the nineties. Like you can't even bring up the discussion without Point Break at least being in the Top 5.
And it ended up at #4 for me , could have been higher but I do go back to other movies more even if I love this one. You have IMO the greatest performance of Swayze's career as Bodhi. He was so fucking good. Keanu kick starting his career even more and becoming one of the greatest action stars of all time ... and Point Break gets credit for starting that. Probably the last good Busey performance. And of course McGinley who is another Scrubs connection.

Never seen Point Break.
All I know of it is it's Tony's nickname for Thor.
Someone gimme an elevator pitch on why I should go outta my way to watch this.

Wife and I are fully intending on casually exploring it, possibly not in sequential order, based on your recommendation/praise.

I haven't seen Point Break either. In fact, I never even knew it existed, let alone was a big thing, until well into the 2000s or 2010s. But that's really nothing new for me. I'm always off in my own little world. (Anybody want to talk about Happy Valley? It deserved all those BAFTA's, huh? James Norton as Tommy Lee Royce=Great TV Villain or Greatest TV Villain?)
I have a lot of free time over the next few days. Perhaps I'll check out Point Break. The wrestling fans among us may be interested to learn that a character in Point Break inspired Raven's ECW character. I'm actually pretty sure reading that on Raven's Wikipedia entry (or something along those lines) like a decade ago is where I first heard of Point Break.

I don't know if this means Happy Valley is part of your little world or that Happy Valley is a huge thing you missed because you're in your little world. I'm guessing the former, because I can't imagine Happy Valley being big in the USA. But let's talk about it anyway. I watched the first season and didn't want to watch the second. Conceptually it's fine but the tone is way too bleak for me. Like, give me some light relief. Anything. Nope. It's just misery piled on misery. That couldn't even overcome the remarkable local appeal (I more or less live in the area where it's set). Great villain, though.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised by the reveals so far. I assumed that this would've been generally a pretty predictable countdown. No slight to either of these films, but I would've never guessed either cracked the overall Top 10. It makes for enough uncertainty now that I'm even more intrigued how the rest of the countdown will unfold.

I'm disappointed in Baker I've been telling him to watch Point Break for the last 6 years and he STILL has not seen it. At one time in my life I would have said Point Break is a top 5 all time favorite movie ever for me, not just action but movies period. UT did a pretty great job of selling it but he left out the fact that is also has GOAT 90's action movie god Gary Busey, him and Keanue are buddy cops in the movie and it's pretty fucking epic 90's cheese brah, definitely. After rewatching the movie a couple of times recently it has sadly dropped a few spots on my all time favorite movies list. Really it should have made my top 10 for this countdown but I had a weird criteria for this one I went with subjectivity over objectivity and just went with the movies closest to my heart. There is no doubt though Point Break objectively is easily a top 10 90's action movie, probably even top 5. I'm really happy it at least made this top 10. To me it's the best Patrick Swayze movie he really makes the whole movie, without him it's nothing really. Back off Warchild, seriously Definitely

Point Break was my #9. This is no indication of the movie's quality whatsoever because I think it's fantastic. There were just 8 action movies in the 90's I liked better. Much like the 80's action countdown there is an incredible amount of depth here so perfectly awesome films will be ranked lower than they might deserve.
The Fast and Furious with surfers description is a good one, except I think Fast and Furious is a steaming pile of feces compared to Point Break. But that description gets the general idea across.

That couldn't even overcome the remarkable local appeal (I more or less live in the area where it's set). Great villain, though. Hooray! I never expected anybody here to have seen, or even heard of Happy Valley. Yeah, it's definitely part of my own little world. The only other person who watches the shows I do is me mum  and that's only because of me. Anyway, Happy Valley is the best show I've seen in 2018 (Series 1 actually came out in 2014 & Series 2 in 2016, but British shows often don't arrive here in the US until years later). I'd give the 1st Series a slight nod over the 2nd. First 5 episodes in Series 1 were amazing. Every episode left me wanting more. I thought the finale was a big letdown though. Sarah Lancashire's character vs. Tommy Lee Royce had such an epic Lawler vs. Dundee level build that I expected the big blowoff to be even bigger and better than it was. I mean, it was still a knock-down, drag-out brawl, but I expected even more. After seeing Series 2 I do understand why they went with the somewhat anti-climactic finale though. Keeping their top draw Tommy Lee Royce around to cause even more trouble was the right call from a booking perspective. Plus it can set up the ultimate showdown in the series finale at the end of Season 3. Can't wait! I enjoyed all 6 episodes of Series 2 but I don't think you would. It's as unremittingly bleak as ever. At least 3 episodes end in tragedy, and two of the few somewhat well-adjusted characters have serious breakdowns. I do remember laughing a few times though, but of course it was dark humour. I already have an idea about how the (B?) plot for Series 3 could/should go. Seeds were planted. And I can't wait to see whether I'm right or not. Anyway, Happy Valley rules, and the brains behind the show, Sally Wainwright, is definitely one of the greats. Now I'm going to ask you a bunch of surely annoying Yorkshire questions  How did the locals like the way their communities were depicted in Happy Valley? I can't imagine them being thrilled about it. Hey, I'm from Baltimore. I get it. How far are you from Thirsk? Harrogate? Halifax? Ripon? Hebden Bridge? Are the Bronte's still a big thing locally? Or at least somewhat of a tourist attraction the way Edgar Allan Poe is in Baltimore? *sigh* I really need to make it to England one of these days. I was supposed to go a few years ago with some people, ostensibly to compete in the Cotswold Olimpicks (I was particularly hyped to take part in the Shin Kicking), but I would almost certainly have eventually wandered off and did my own thing at some point. Anyway, that trip fell through and now I am sad about it. I'm disappointed in Baker I've been telling him to watch Point Break for the last 6 years and he STILL has not seen it.  Ouch. Now I know how 🤯 felt the other day when I scolded him for not getting a 70s Song list in. Come to think of it, I'm pretty sure it was you who first told me about Point Break being a genre classic/big deal. To make up for my laziness, I will not only watch it in the near future, but also contribute an extremely rare PW movie review. For I must get back on your good side. Edit: Umm.....I don't know what I did to Shin's avatar Nor do I know how to fix it. Stupid multi-quoting.....I swear I botch it in some new way every single time.....

Now I'm going to ask you a bunch of surely annoying Yorkshire questions Fine by me. Annoy me all you like. How did the locals like the way their communities were depicted in Happy Valley? Don't know. How far are you from Thirsk? Harrogate? Halifax? Ripon? Hebden Bridge? I live in a city called Bradford. It's about 7 miles away Halifax and possibly twice that distance to Harrogate/Thirsk/Ripon. I had the impression Happy Valley was set exclusively in the Calder Valley, which is the area containing Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden etc. I've been to those places various times. Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk are on the other side of Bradford and further away. I had no idea they were locations for Happy Valley. Are the Bronte's still a big thing locally? Or at least somewhat of a tourist attraction the way Edgar Allan Poe is in Baltimore? The Brontes are pretty famous throughout the whole country. I don't know if they are especially beloved in the local area. I know there is a Bronte museum. Somewhere. You are a strange individual indeed. Come to England primarily to participate in Shin Kicking, one of our many utterly absurd traditions? Well, I give huge props to you for having heard of it. You might know more about the quirks of English culture than most English folk

Of course I have heard of Bradford. Isn't that one of the bigger cities in England/Yorkshire? I'm just sitting here watching Cheese Rolling videos this morning and being sad that I am now too out of shape to ever compete. Even 5 years ago when we planned on going would have been stretching it. Buuuuut you only live once. So if I ever do make it to England I will probably break my neck racing down a hill to capture a roll of cheese
