Yes I'm starting this early , yes I'm already looking forward to the offseason and next season for the Packers. With the firing of McCarthy - the Packers have absolutely punted on the rest of this season and I wanted to get some thoughts down.
First the coaching candidates.
1. Josh McDaniels - A dream hire at this point for a ton of franchises. I don't know that anyone is going to be able to pull him away from the Patriots though as he is in line to take over the franchise from Belichek. Perhaps coaching Aaron Rodgers down the stretch run of his career and bringing him another Super Bowl would be enough. He is the creative offensive mind the Packers offense needs.
2. Lincoln Riley - It would probably take too much money to pry him away from Oklahoma and the Packers aren't exactly a spend happy franchise. I would love to see him and his offensive mind come to the Packers though and inject some life into this team and offense.
3. Zac Taylor - Sean McVeigh is like 17 years old but already starting his own coaching tree. Taylor is a really hot name in the news right now for candidates and I would be okay with him coming to the Packers.
4. John DeFilippo - The Vikings offense hasn't been a juggernaut this season but I've liked what I seen from DeFilippo and thought that he's done an okay job with a streaky quarterback and terrible offensive line at times. It seems as if he and Reich might have actually been the brains behind the operation in Philly.
5. Joe Lombardi - He's Drew Brees's quarterbacks coach this year , and if I'm being honest I only threw him at the end because of his last name and the history and coolness it would create having another Lombardi roaming the sidelines at Lambeau. Not that he isn't a good offensive mind and someone who I'd be interested in seeing taking over.
Two names I've seen floated around are John Harbaugh and Gary Kubiak. No fucking thank you. I want someone young and exciting - I guess Harbaugh could bring in a Lombari or Riley as OC and that would be okay but please the fuck no to Kubiak.

Now for the players side:
Clay Matthews - I've ranted on him enough , it's becoming blatantly obvious and now even the broadcasters are making excuses for him while awkwardly talking about how this is probably his last year in Green Bay (in like Week 6). I don't see him coming back unless it's for a massive hometown discount ... and that ain't happening because a team running a 3-4 will definitely ante up for at least two years of him. It's been a up and down ride with Clay but I won't miss him.
Nick Perry - I've been a fan of Perry for a few years now but he has lost a step , always seems injured and is due a lot of money. Depending on what happens with our defense I could see him being gone. Although I've always felt he would be a better fit as a 4-3 end.
Bryan Bulaga - Another guy I'm sick of always getting injured and collecting a paycheck. Solid player when he's in there but it might be time to move on from the contract and get someone who can stay on the field for more that three series at a time.
Randall Cobb - See all of the above. Money. Injuries. Productivity. We have too many good young receivers to keep Cobb around - although it would be interesting to see him with a McDaniels type who loves to utilize the slot guys.
We we need is alot:
Pass rushers: Fackrell played himself into a starting role next season IMO. He's had a great year. We still need a bunch of bodies there and this should be a focus of the draft.
Safety: Haha is gone. Tramon Williams isn't a safety. Brice pisses me off too much. Another position that could be addressed early .. I also wouldn't mind movie Jackson to safety so his ball skills can actually come into play. We probably need more than one starter here.
Right Tackle - Spriggs isn't the future. He's terrible.
Offensive line in general. We need competition at RG and depth.
That would be a great start.

Management won't change at the Texans, nor should it. FO did a good job in the draft despite no picks in the first two rounds. Bill O'Brien continues to impress with his ball control offense.
Players wise.
Tackles, tackles and more tackles.
There is a fear that Foreman won't be the same after an achilles injury and if that's the case then Alfred Blue needs replacing as RB2.
On the defensive line, Mercilus can possibly be replaced in house by Brennan Scarlett or Ejiofor.
Secondary may be a problem. I think we extend Mathieu and Reid has been great but Jonathan Joseph will be older still and we need to replace him. Aaron Colvin is not very good from what I've seen although he's been injured for long spells. So cornerbacks are of the essence, possibly two.
And of course Clowney is the big question mark. Will the Texans pay him? He is going to ask for more than he is worth for sure. He's very good but not an elite player. Will be interesting.

I think the Lombardi move would be awesome. Grandfather to grandson. Skip a generation. The Packers are in a tough position anyways with the Vikings and Bears in their division. The Packers have a lot of moves to make to get
I’ll take the draft spots right now for the NY teams. Jets at 3 and Giants at 6. Both franchises getting another high pick could be great if they don’t fuck it up by winning unnecessary games or making a bad pick.

The Texans aren't welcome in this thread yet , they are legit contenders at this point. No looking towards the future! I'm afraid the Packers will probably fuck up their draft spot now that McCarthy is gone , it might light a candle up their buts and reel off a few wins. 3/4 games on the schedule are very winnable. And that would leave us with a mediocre draft slot yet again. I'd love to pick inside the top ten. And the Saints pick could very well end up being #32 at this rate. I wish they'd lose some games (Sorry @theshow) and at least get it into the mid 20's. Either way I could see the Packers trading up for a premier player - especially if there is a pass rusher available. The defense has some nice building blocks with Kenny Clark , Jaire Alexander and "When healthy" Kevin King , and even Martinez but there needs to be more there. More superstars and swagger - especially in the front seven. Having two 1st rounders does help though , allows us to spend the first pick on a pass rusher or safety and come around and hopefully get a RT or even another pass rusher if there is one there. Offensively at the skill positions I think we are in good shape with Adams , the young guys and Jones in the backfield. Could just use some help up front.

The Giants first priority is drafting a new QB. I love Eli and am forever grateful for everything he's done for the NY Giants, but it's time. That being said he had been horribly scape-goated for this season. Last game you saw Eli GENUINELY playing like ass and the Giants still won because the offensive line actually played well and gave Eli more than 2 damn seconds to throw the ball and opened holes for Saquan. Hopefully the Giants O-line can keep this up going to next season but it's probably safe to draft some additional depth there using some of the lower draft picks.
Next priority HAS to be linebacker. Our linebacking corp flat out sucks, no bones about it. A replacement for Snacks wouldn't hurt either and neither would a new pass rusher to start alongside Vernon.

It seems like that’s a problem for the Giants every year. Who was their last legit linebacker? Armstead?

Antonio Brown has lost the plot. The Steelers are in a mess, feels like a big off-season for them.
I wonder where Brown ends up. I've heard 49ers which sounds ok actually. Just please not the Colts.

Without going into too much analysis of the salary cap situations, San Francisco actually seems like the only obvious legitimate option for Brown. I don't see him being particularly interested in going to rebuilding teams like the Raiders or Jets. I'd love to see it personally as AB and Kittle would make for a nasty pair of weapons for Jimmy G. If I had to bet though I think he stays in Pittsburgh.

Now we can officially welcome the Texans and Seahawks to the offseason.
Watching the Texans game yesterday and a bunch this season , it's obvious they need to focus on the offensive line early and often - much like the Colts did heading into last offseason. I also don't love their running backs - even if Miller has his moments. A better offensive line though would help , lead to a better run game and allow Watson to be more effective on the play action bombs he loves so much. They could also use some youth in the secondary , and another receiver or two because Fuller at this point needs to prove he can stay on the field.
The Seahawks have a solid little roster , I still don't trust their offensive line even after a good season of run blocking. Seems like they could get even better up front and really be able to dominate on the ground - Carson is asked to make too much happen after contact. They could also use better safety play - even if they like their young corners the absence of Chancellor and Thomas still has a big effect on the secondary.

Imagine getting him AND Bell together again in a locker room? The diva like attitudes will suffocate the good thing the Colts have going on . Andrew Luck is gonna stay far away from them in the offseason and just put up with that whenever he can.

I haven't heard the Colts come up much , and no way do they sign Bell and trade for Brown. Well anything can happen but I just can't see it ...
The 49ers , Raiders and Redskins all make the most sense to me. Probably in that order.

The Texans have two priorities, offensive line and cornerback. Everything can else is secondary to that. After they fill those needs, they need to pick up a second WR to help Hopkins. I have ZERO faith that Fuller can play a full season. Time to cut their losses there.
The Seahawks also need to build up their offensive line, especially their pass-blocking. They also need a new offensive coordinator. Going from Bevell to Schottenheimer is like going from the electric chair to the gas chamber. As UT pointed out they really need some new safeties as well.

True, but it's deeper than just the OC - Pete Carroll is clearly hanging on to the glory days and hired Schottenheimer because he would call a run heavy offence which is cool in theory but Chris Carson isn't Marshawn Lynch and the defence is just decent rather than elite. Run-run-pass is bad offence in 2019, especially when you have a top 5 quarterback.

Time to welcome the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens to the off-season.
The Bears need to get a new kicker desperately. No excuse for Parkey to miss that many field goals over the season, and to miss a game winner like that is unacceptable. Defensively the Bears don't really need anything, the draft should focus entirely on offense, especially at receiver and running back. They also really need Trubiusky to progress. A regression from him would be devastating for the team.
Baltimore...hmmm. As fun as Jackson was to watch this season, he really needs work on his throws this off-season. Otherwise teams are going to cut off his running lanes and just dare Jackson to beat them with his arm like the Chargers did today. He started to get it going in the 4th, but it was too little too late by that point. Baltimore could also use more depth at WR and running back. They also might want to find a replacement for future Hall of Famer T-Sizzle who is a little long in the tooth now, and probably sees the finish line.

That's got to be everyone right? Surely there aren't people still in the Eli camp? The only argument is that there are "better" prospects in the 2020 draft like Tua, Herbert and Fromm - but 12 months could contain so many variables that you can't use that as a legitimate plan.

Yeah you can't draft for the year ahead , every year half of the guys projected to be first rounders drop dramatically and quite a few other guys rise. Plus you are just setting your future back a full year.

Beautiful news about Haskins declaring in this otherwise subpar QB class. Cards have Rosen, Niners have Mr 130 mill Garapolo and Jets have Darnold but the Raiders who saw Derek Carr butt heads with Gruden this year pick four....
Thus meaning if you are the Jags, Broncos or Giants if you want Haskins to not go to Oakland and for Gruden to handpick his guy you come up to three since it'd cost less vs one or two and get him.
Time to get back the ammo we gave up a year ago with Indy and gave them Nelson, Leonard and others. Two 2nds in 2018 and this years 2019. Time to take back what is ours.
I think Elway will have to. Needs a big pick at QB and to prevent this guy to join a division rival. Jumping from 9 or, 10 to 3 will cost a pretty penny though.

Now reports are that Kyler Murray is going to be entering the draft as well. He's going to be a fun one to watch - whether his size holds him back from being a top round pick. He's even shorter than guys like Wilson and Brees but then you also have Kliff Kingsbury saying that he would take him #1 overall.
And at the end of the day if he doesn't like where and who drafts him he can just not sign a contract and go play baseball instead.

It reminds me so much of the Oilers in 93 with the way they brought in Buddy Ryan, which led to him trying to knock out Kevin Gilbride in a game(coincidentally against the Jets).

I hate nepotism in the coaching circles it smells bad. Can't remember when it worked maybe the Shanahans in Washington? Adam Gase and his father in law Joe Vitt and then Triple G and his meat head son and the bad blood between Vitt and Williams. My goodness I hope they let bygones be bygones because we can spend alot of money AND draft well if our GM can do the right thing for once. My take away from this is how the hell is JIM BOB COOTER your RUNNING BACK COACH? What running game did this guy have in Detroit? What does he know about this? Kerwynn Williams?

Hunt will almost certainly be suspended for something like 6-8 games, but it seems like a pretty slam dunk move by the Browns if you can look past the morality of it all. They're paying him next to nothing and will get a fresh RB1 for the second half of the season. I don't think it means too much to Chubb's role, he probably takes most of his snaps off Duke Johnson given how effective he can be as a receiver.
Browns AFC North hype train is in full effect now.

Seems kinda hypocritical of Dorsey to throw Josh Gordon out for his mental illness and then three months later signs Hunt after what he did but he doesn't shy away from taking suspect guys. Hunt was his guy from KC so this comes as no surprise. Shocked Cleveland didn't throw a claim in for Reuben Foster think they had the Redskins beat in the waiver claim at that point.
I'd rather have Hunt at this salary than Bell. Hoping Jets don't sign Bell. Find your own tailback in the draft.
