I'm holding each and every single one of you motherfuckers accountable Did some legs earlier this afternoon wearing my sleeveless Brian Cushing jersey: Watching Cush highlight videos gets me so jacked for the gym, he was my spirit animal . That's dope. Cush is a good friend of mine. Whoa awesome! I miss his intensity, watching him play always made me want to hit the weights

Did 25 pushups plus one girl pushup. With relative ease. Based on challenge from Wife, prompted by Office rerun. Still got it. Good for another 3+ years.

Mr. Accountability right fucking here with some Friday night sprints at the football field in town. I'm doing 50 yard gassers, from sideline to sideline them back again full fucking intensity that's 1 set. I'm doing 3 sets tonight 2 minute break in between rounds. It's beautiful out here. I love my life

What the fuck? How is this possible? I don't care how hot she is, or how into you she is. That's a dealbreaker. Seriously. The guitar solo isn't mankind's greatest invention since sliced bread; it is mankind's greatest invention. The second greatest invention is the keyboard solo. My dad actually told me that exact same thing once. He just randomly said while I was playing music in the car driving him somewhere “I really hate that whiney guitar noise that’s playing. Why aren’t any other instruments going? Why would a song do this?”

Guys, it's the dawn of a miracle. Some coworkers back in Pittsburgh have been running together in the mornings to try to beat their dadbods back into shape. They've apparently been at it consistently enough that they've decided to sign up for a 10K at the end of September. I then went and wrote a check my dumb ass might not be able to cash by saying I'd come back to Pittsburgh then and run it with them. This was maybe a week ago. I was told I'd better start training. I immediately slacked and told myself I'd start in August. Well, August arrived and there's no more excuses. Out the door at 7:45 today to do a 6.25 mile baseline. 1.5 miles of street running to get to and from the nearest track, then 4.75 miles in boring ass loops around the track. I survived, and am sore and will surely get more sore as the day/days progress... But fuck it, the wheel is in motion. Weekend weigh-in clocks me at 183.4 lbs, and I'm guessing 20% body fat still. Gonna find and order one of those handheld electric body fat scanners to get a better sense on that front. Will keep you all posted. Recall seeing some posts on here that suggest PW has some runners in our midst? Any training tips? I've got roughly two months to take my pace from 12-minute miles to ideally 8-minute miles. Unrealistic goal? Doable? Open to any advice. Need to sort out nutrition discipline too starting ASAP. ( Wife will make this aspect the most difficult challenge. Damn her and her twig metabolism!) Also cleaned out the garage so that there's no excuses not to do at least some sort of lifting too. Don't have much in the way of weight or equipment here, but figured something is better than nothing. Right now I'm thinking of runs in the morning and a little lifting in the evenings. TBD on whether progress pics will be forthcoming. I'm not as brave as System, and even if I was as shredded as shinobimusashi I'd probably still be too self-conscious.

I cancelled my gym membership last week, planning to turn my garage that i never use into a home gym. Just have to get rid of all the junk that's thrown in there first.

Don't just jog all the time. If you run 4 or five times a week, then one of them should be a short sprint, and one should be interval training (Google HIIT). You will get more out of short bursts of speed week than you will geom constant slow jogging. I recently bought a weight bench and some weights. I plan on adding a treadmill and a TV to my basement room. This is mostly looking ahead to winter. But even for now, I've fallen into some bad habits and maybe every time I'm bored I'll workout.

Posting them to PW was an afterthought. It does work to take pics to keep track of progress though. I looked up some of my pics from last Summer and holy shit I have burned quite a bit of fat from my gut, also my chest looks way better and my back is ungodly right now.

Guys, not even a full week in and I'm dying. My knees feel like someone took a ball peen hammer to 'em from the running (probably specifically from Sunday's 6.25-mile cold baseline). I did a 3-mile jog/sprint workout Monday and yesterday morning, which probably aren't contributing to the good feelings. Strangely, my knees hurt least during sprints. Anyway... Then I lifted on Monday evening, thinking I'd run in the mornings and lift in the evenings to really kick shit into gear. Well, I got that brutal DOMS today in my chest and arms. And I can't tell if my right bicep just has some dope hypertrophy going on... Or is filling with adema. Jesus, I wish I was 17 again.

Hard to bear wait, excruciating to bend. What the fuck have I done to myself!? Also don't think I'm hydrating enough, as my piss was brown and thick last night. I'm guessing all my dying body parts as breaking down and passing out of my body as rotting proteins in my piss? Moderation has never been my forte. And old PI misses young PI and might end up on the side of "hates exercising, so therefore doesn't do it" permanently.

Sometimes the first step to running is walking, and you could just do that for a few weeks.

Don't push yourself too hard 🤯. 17 year old PI may have had better recovery, but chances were he was over-training and wasn't seeing enough fruits of his labour. Manage your work-outs effectively. There is no shame starting over and getting the reps in. You're not going to pick up where you left off and that's fine, it won't take too long for you to get into the swing of things. Just give yourself a day to recover, two if you have to and if you're still not feeling up to it, go on an hour long walk. You're still using muscles in your legs and burning calories so it's far more effective than feeling sorry for yourself or giving up. This is all coming from experience. I remember taking a few months off from running, and trying to get back into it only to get some awful stitches half-way through and constantly having to stop and start just to finish it. The second experience was even worse, but once I had rode it out and my body had recovered, I was doing the circuit no sweat. What are you eating?

I've been dabbling in Crossfit for the last month. With my travel schedule, I only get in 2-3 times a week at most, but between that and hotel cardio (1990s machines galore!), I'm feeling better.
My diet is lazy paleo right now.

I probably legit need a real trainer just to save me from myself (but also ensure I don't quit like some pussy). I'm definitely resting the next two days, hoping knee rebounds a bit. And thinking next week I might just stick to jumping rope for cardio... Fuck running, especially if my knee is still twingey at all. Honestly, I don't even want to be running! This 10K peer pressure just happened to be enough of a coincidental excuse to actually start exercising again. My eating is garbage still. I had fallen into a years-long bad habit of only eating one meal per day... Usually a large dinner. Again, I think nutrition will be a tough battle because of Wife's cravings. But at least it's been easy enough to cut out all liquids that aren't water, coffee, or tea. None of those empty sugar calories from juice, soda, etc. I do miss beer though...

Cravings? Are we speaking generally or did I miss the good news? What would a typical day's meal plan look like? No good news... Yet. Maybe in 2 months or so. Just general cravings right now. That's the problem, there's no typical day meal plan for me/us... I'll say maybe something like this though: MON - Cup of coffee or two for "breakfast"; essentially fast until dinner; dinner consisting of grilled chicken tenders, roasted red potatoes, Caesar salad with anchovies. TUE - Same as Monday, but let's say dinner becomes takeout Chinese because we're lazy or stress or cravings... Whatever excuse. WED - Repeat of Monday, but manage to get a salad or chicken or tuna wrap in for lunch. THU - Repeat of Wednesday, but let's say I randomly manage to actually eat breakfast... 3-5 eggs. FRI - Repeat of Tuesday, but replace takeout Chinese with going out to a restaurant we wanted to try. SAT - Hit a diner for breakfast or have a similar style breakfast at home: eggs, bacon and/or sausage, pancakes/french toast, fresh squeezed orange juice. Sandwich for lunch. Eat in homemade dinner, order in, or go out... Healthiness of dinner ranging from greasy pepperoni pizza to baked salmon and green beans. If Wife makes a homemade dessert, I'm eating at least some of that. SUN - Similar to Saturday but without breakfast or the dessert at least half the time.

🤯, that's not a terrible diet plan, but I'm sure you know it's not ideal. Something I do is pre cook and freeze portioned out meals so I have healthy meals ready in the freezer anytime I want. Even if you don't do a lot of it, trying something like this might give you a day or two more good meals per week than before. And eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day.

Agreed, I don't have anything against fasting and I know some people who swear by it. However, it isn't for everybody and you might find that eating six small meals a day will give you more energy allowing you to increase your training regimen and help with recovery.
At the end of the day, it depends what your goals are. If you're looking to burn fat, then you may want to focus more on proteins and fats, but if you're running then you should make sure you're setting your carbohydrate macros accordingly and giving yourself enough fuel to complete the course.
