Anyway, these days I don't actively count reps or even pay attention to weight amount. Overhead a YouTube guy say something that resonated. Your muscles can't count, so reps and weight don't matter to them. All they know is time under tension and intensity of contraction. So I've bastardized that into slap whatever weight on, rep until it burns but I can still keep proper form for whatever I'm trying to hit, then call that a set. Rest and repeat. Makes tracking progress a bitch, but right now progress to me is just getting into the basement and moving any weight more than once or twice a week. I think there is something to that but at the same time you're never going to hit a 500 pound deadlift by lifting 135 x 50.
Then again what am I gonna say, I deadlifted for the first time since Covid (gyms opened back up in limited capacity recently) and I capped out at 275x4. Lost about twenty pounds on my press, too, but that's been coming back decently quickly.
Put on about ten pounds of not exactly all muscle during the pandemic, which is somewhat disappointing but also isn't too bad, I guess?

Challenge accepted: this week's deadlift day will be doing 50 reps of 135 lbs and seeing how I feel afterwards.

If I could ask you two deeply personal and religious questions: Do you count the bar? And what do you bench?

I screwed up the maths 🤯, sorry about that! Are you lifting to build muscle or to increase strength? The reps and weights matter depending on what your goals are. I have no time for the meme training schedules like starting strength. I started out on Bro splits before going to a PPLRPPR schedule but I'm back on the splits because I enjoy it. Lifting with a purpose? Lol, who's got time for that if you're not being paid to train for a Hollywood role or sports performance? Right now goals are just trying to reestablish routine. If I'm only getting into the basement once or twice a week, the big compound lifts seem to give me most bang for my buck. Think I'm familiar with bro splits, but what's PPLRPPR? Sorry 🤯, missed your question. PPL is the split: Push Pull Legs R is rest So I only used to do one leg day a week, because as it is I couldn't walk after squatting. As for holding babies, worse as they get bigger, you can see why chicks have hips... Baby shelves!! I often have to "rocket ship" my girls, which is running up the stairs with one in each arm. Killer work out. Today was the first time I managed to OHP 90lb for more than one rep since I restarted lifting. In other news: They also banned all the good pre workout in Australia because dumb ass teens were having heart attacks on them... I say let them die and let me have my crazy pumps with numb lips and a heart flutter!

I just finished three weeks with no sugary drinks. Water, unsweetened tea, black coffee, and sparkling water (the unsweetened kind.. not the Ones that are sweetened with artificial sugar. I’ve developed a taste for Bubbly, and drinks like that. In a weird scenario.. I’ve actually gained about 8 pounds. I’ve heard that people lose weight fast when they cut out sodas but here I am giving it up clean and gain weight. Baffles me. Sonic accidentally gave me a sweet tea this week and one sip and I was grossed out. Way too sweet. Had to toss it. I was drinking 4-5 sodas, teas, etc.. a day. So this was a hard thing to do. I think I already have a taste for drinking unsweetened drinks. Hopefully I don’t fall off the wagon. Will look at sweets and salty snacks in a month or so and see what I’ll cut out next.

The only fizzy drinks I drink are sparkling water and they have no sugar or sugar substitutes. With zero calories and no sugar or aspertain, surely they aren’t the reason I’m not losing weight, right? My only crutch is pepsi Max, apart from that I have dropped everything but water and black coffee from my beverage choices. Maybe a milkshake once in a blue moon as a dessert thing. System, your video disappointed me I was expecting some big change... But genetics suck.

jTjohncenaGOAT, my only two thoughts are this: Possibly a water retention thing? Or perhaps you're subconsciously supplementing your sugars via foods given such a sudden cold turkey cut-off of fluid sources? KJ might be able to speak better to it, or even KING KID, but I think with the keto diet there's often a discouraging uptick in weight before all the real weight loss starts kicking in. Since that's a diet built around limiting carbohydrate intake, could be some parallel to your situation?

Will look at sweets and salty snacks in a month or so and see what I’ll cut out next. I think these will be the key. You mentioned Sonic. Fast food is notoriously high in sodium with promotes water retention. Also, double-check you weren't subconsciously eating more fatty/salty food to make up for the lack of sugar. The brain is sneaky. Basically what 🤯 said. Damn, it's early.

Keto was great. I hit my goal weight and lost an extra pound.
I officially stopped KETO this past weekend. 10 months of excellence. Lost nearly 70 pounds and look like myself again.

If I could ask you two deeply personal and religious questions: Do you count the bar? And what do you bench? We add the bar in the States. You're lifting that too, so it counts. I dunno how much I bench, to be honest. For some odd reason, the benches are always taken while the racks are not so OHP is my primary press movement. Dumbbell bench 55 in each hand for 8-10, so however that calculates.

Dumbbell pressing is definitely more difficult. Feel like Jeff Cavalier of Athleanx once dropped a conversion percentage that sounded right. Maybe 150%? Feels right. I recall 75 dumbells felt like a similar challenge to 225 barbell.

I've moved the office into the basement, next to the squat rack, so that I can bang out pull-ups sets between emails. Super shredder dad bod, here I come. As Shelton Benjamin's entrance music used to say, ain't no stoppin' me now!
