Was that the GBC version that came free one year? Or did you purchase the NES Rom?
I'd consider the GBC version tough since the field of vision has been reduced. This can be tough particularly when you come across a hammer bros and you're trying to determine their placement and the break in-between the hammer throws. During my run through of the game, I must have died at least a dozen times, which was a pain because it was right at the end of a long level.

I got mine for free. As far as I remember it just appeared on my 3DS homepage in a gift box. Probably the GBC version then. Fuck the Hammer Bros. They are a pain in the ass in every Mario game. I almost never get past them without getting it. I don't know how you can even do it reliably.

Most fun with multiplayer is hands down NBA Jam with my little brothers, we would play it on a Sega Genesis with multi-tap usually with a cousin or somebody on the 4th stick, 2 on 2 epic games, EPIC games, I remember one that went to like 6 overtimes, it was INTENSE!!!

As far as older sports go, I was all over NFL and NBA Street for the first 2 volumes of each, they screwed the franchises after that, but the first two of each are classics.

Am I the only one that didn’t care about the microtransactions in BF2? Seemed like a fair trade off for no season pass, i’d rather have that than having to buy maps/season pass in CoD.
DKC: Tropical Freeze is probably the hardest game I’ve played. I’ve finished all 3 Dark Souls games and I’d say 2 is the hardest due to the reduced health on death but I don’t think they are that hard..just punishing. If it reloaded instantly/you didn’t lose Souls when you die..I doubt it would have the reputation that it has.
Cuphead is brutal from what I’ve played of it so far.

Haven't played Tropical Freeze, but I remember DKC Returns being absolutely brutal. I went about half the game without losing a life, then the later levels just tore me a new asshole.

DKC is my favourite series, DKC: R wasn’t a cake walk at all but Tropical Freeze is by far the hardest DKC game IMO, the “K” levels are brutal.

Yeah, I like the idea of a countdown.
If somebody can refresh my memory, on PW wouldn't each member nominate 3 games, they would then be put into seeds based off of Metacritic and then it would be decided via a tournament?

I think so and I think it was 5 games. Dunno, this year may have to have more picks as 5 is just not enough.

Susie - Killer 7Susie was a former target of the Killer 7 who returns in ghost form as a decapitated head. Through out the game, Susie gifts the players with different elemental rings which help the player through out the journey. When she passes these rings on, she regales the players with stories of her past exploits and they're just as looney as the next. Killer 7 is a game filled with memorable characters and moments, but Susie encapsulates the sheer insanity of the project. Auron - Final Fantasy XAuron maybe one of the greatest father figures in gaming. At first you grow to respect Auron because he keeps such a cool head through out a perilous journey and is the most physically able member of the party. However as you go along, you come across these memory spheres that show you another side of his personality. You come to realise who Auron is and that this front he's put on is nothing but an illusion to hide the pain he endured. In recent times, Final Fantasy X has been often criticised for it's clunky plot, but the deconstruction of Auron's identity is a plot point that holds up nicely even to this day. Makoto - Persona 5So really early on through the playthrough, Makoto is on a mission to track down the phantom thieves. At first you just see her conducting her investigation in cut-scenes, but over-time, you start to notice this NPC slipping in and out of view. It's Makoto, with the worst disguise of all-time as she pretends to read a graphic novel while really taking note of your movements. It really is the perfect representation of her character because she does eventually out you as a phantom thief, but her methodology is so overt. She's also one of the more interesting characters in the game, because her head sister is the head prosecutor for the phantom thieves case, so Makoto has to undergo this duality where she escapes her sister's suspicions, all the while sharing information with the rest of the team. Plus, her Persona is a motorbike she rides in while she's in battle. While Susie is quite the character, Makoto is the only character that embodies the qualities I'd consider wife material. Ebisumaru - Mystical Ninja GoemonOne of the biggest goof-balls of all-time, I can't help but laugh whenever I see him. Unlike other joke characters, Ebisumaru is surprisingly useful in the Mystical Ninja games I've played, able to use magic to access areas that other characters cannot. One of my favourite twist endings in video games is in Mystical Ninja 2 on the NES where you find out Ebisumaru was actually a beautiful girl the entire time - giving Samus a run for her money.

I won't spoil my 2017 list, so nothing from that year. 1. Mario Kart 8 2. Splatoon 3. The Last Guardian 4. Shovel Knight 5. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 6. Super Mario Bros. 3D World 7. Pikmin 3 8. Overwatch 9. Final Fantasy XV 10. Kid Icarus: Uprising Didn't receive a PS4 until Christmas of '16, so my choices were primarily restricted to the Wii U and 3DS. MK8 and Splatoon got me through two exam blocks and are games I still continue to go back and play. The Last Guardian was my first PS4 game and an incredible experience, few games have grabbed me as much emotionally as that game, from moments of pure shock, to awe to absolute despair and desperation. Shovel Knight was a game that had a ton of acclaim and somehow managed to live up to all of it. Incredibly fun game that borrows from the past and uses ideas to make one of the greatest 2D platformers of all-time. ALBW is remembered as the game where Nintendo decided to finally mix up the Zelda formula and made an amazing top down Zelda game, arguably the best in series history. 3D World was a game that was initially dismissed as a cheap cash-grab, but the game is bursting with personality and is an absolute joy in either single or multiplayer. Pikmin 3 is an excellent adventure/rts game that almost justified the Gamepad in terms of interface. Great levels and one of those games I keep going back to, trying to make the days more efficient than before. Overwatch was the TF2 replacement I was looking for. A tremendous cast of characters, each with a unique use and play-style that suits everyone. FFXV has it's flaws, but it's a gorgeous game and has some great story moments. No other game has been able to replicate brotherly comradarie as well. Riding around on Chocobos while listening to classic FF tracks never got old. #10 could have gone to a bunch of games, but Uprising was such a surprise. Excellent characters, voice acting and writing made it a joy to play and I got so hooked I had to complete 10 missions in one single evening. It's a shame some people couldn't get used to the controls, because the game was great for what it was. ADGQ 2018 starts up on Sunday gamesdonequick.com/scheduleI usually catch these late at night, so I'll be catching the Contra, Pop n Twinbee, Magical Pop'in, DKC2, Castlevania, Fire Emblem 8, TMNT, Dragon Quest, Addams Family, Jak and Daxter, Mario Galaxy, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2...and I'll catch any of the streams if they're entertaining.

Must have missed that announcement, HYPED! As someone who dodged the GC, Wii and Wii U, all of these ports coming to Switch have been FANTASTIC! I can see how it is frustrating as a Wii U and Switch owner but for me, this is awesome. Tropical Freeze has been the lone DKC game to escape my grasps, now I get to play it!
PLAYABLE FUNKY KONG OH SHIT! FUNKY KONG!

Did you play Returns on the Wii? Because they made it easier on the 3DS since they offered you an extra heart. I could not beat (or even get to) the final boss on the Wii because of the rocket section. Managed it on the 3DS though.

Did you watch the Dragon Quest run? Easily the best speedrun I've ever seen. tl;dw: Dragon Quest beat in under 30 minutes, at level 7, with insane RNG manipulation.

I just watched it then. I was aware of certain things, but didn't realise how deep it ran. Paying attention to NPC movements just to realise you've got the right set-up is just so far beyond the level of comprehension, you wonder if it was coded that way. Surely, it has to do something with the coding being so basic that in 30 years time, fans have been able to trigger certain events simply through their own inputs.
I'm surprised there wasn't a 'Save The Princess' incentive.
I'm not sure what it is, but I tend to like the horror speedrunning community. I caught the Silent Hill and Resident Evil 7 runs, both had great commentary and some clutch moments which is what I look for in these runs. As educational as these videos can be, you can tell a lot of the runners are nervous and they're not confident enough to engage with an audience, which is a shame.
The most insufferable run was Ultima. The runner spoke in the same tone through out and had an annoying valley girl inflection, obviously to compensate for their original gender.

Only thing that holds Nioh back from being the best of its kind is the world and monster variety, combat system is definitely the best of its kind for my money.

Both Bloodborne and Ratchet and Clank(Remake) are FREE for PS Plus. FREE. Two of the very best games on the PS4 with the former being my favorite game on the system are FREE. If you have PS Plus, you owe it to yourself to play these games!
Mighty No.9 as well which wasn't great but it wasn't god awful either....
I have all 3 games so it's a crap month for me but hey if you don't have those games, what are you waiting for? Download and play em when you can!
Guess the only thing worthwhile is Legend of Kay Anniversary, seems like something up my alley.
