So much in Entertainment would be Nerdery worthy threads. Just think of so much of what UT does now we used to do in the Nerdery. Just now all of those characters have main stream appeal thanks to the MCU. Remember it was the comics and cartoons forum in its original incarnation. Please make a Nerdery so I don’t have to see anymore MCU stuff. I’m on team nerdery. Micheal will participate in every thread made in our new, hypothetical Nerdery. Thanks for your endorsement! It means a lot!

Does anyone else feel like there's something in the water lately ever since the Fan Fiction Draft started up? Need to quote this: Maybe I feel this way because I don't own a car but... People overreact way too much to getting a scratch on their car. They rage, they cry, they are willing to fork out a lot of cash to get it scrubbed up. I feel this reaction is way disproportionate compared to getting a scratch or a mark on basically anything else they own. I think I can explain why this is the case. It is the first time something gets scratched, then it is not longer so new and perfect and people don't react as badly the second and subsequent times, because it is not longer in that perfect state.. I expect it's the same reason getting raped in the shower at jail would seem worse the first time. Because iNCY's edgy comedy has been gold tonight. Loving some of his hilarious hot takes. Speaking of hot takes, I've got one... The Sports Empire would fit in the Nerdery, because sports fans are possibly the biggest nerds to ever nerd.

Might be regurgitating a post from 5 years ago when I made this thread, but that's too bad...
Celebrity autographs. Don't get it. Why do so many people go out of my way to have a poster or a book signed by a musician or an author? What is the value? Maybe it's bragging rights? "I met this person." OK, you met for about 10 seconds, they smiled at you, put pen to paper, and waved you away for the next person. Congratulations?
Getting a photo with a celebrity, I can understand a bit more. It's not just a photo, there's even a chance for a few minutes of interaction with said celebrity, which does sound pretty awesome.
Then there's the next level down which is "OH MY GOD BEYONCE TOUCHED ME I'M NOT GOING TO SHOWER FOREVER". I know it's a joke, but why is it even a meme to say that type of thing? Like the touch of a famous person is some kind of divine miracle, and not just a human being touching another human being. Do not get.

I think the celebrity autograph/photo ops are kinda nice if they're free, but I'm not interested in paying for them.
I went to a TNA show years ago and they did a totally free meet and greet kinda thing at the end. I got to say hi to almost everyone on the roster at the time and got my program signed by them too (except Booker T, who was in a different room you had to pay for). It's a nice memory and it didn't cost anything extra.
This was 2008, so it was a pretty great group of wrestlers (Hogan hadn't ruined it all yet). Gail Kim was the nicest (in case anyone was wondering).
No way would I pay for that kind of thing though. Some of those comic cons are absolutely wild - as if I'd pay £100 for a picture and scribble from some random Smallville actor!

I think signatures were a popular form of showing you met a celebrity before having a camera at your disposal was the norm.

Depends on what it is. If it's the actual game ball or guernsey signed for example.. then absolutely, that's cool.
A 6x10 print, that 50,000 other people have. Who cares.
And it sort of depends on the celebrity's profile. If it's a cultural icon for example. Yes, of course that's great. Most people recognise Michael Jackson. But, if it's the guy who played a Cowboy on space opera #569 featuring the 5th lead from a monster of the week horror show #7389... then, I don't care. I'm not lining up to meet Nathan Fillion.

I actually don't understand the concept of celebrity. If someone is a great actor or singer, that is fantastic. To me though, it doesn't make me think the person should be revered or whatever. Especially boring toe a talk shows where celebrities tell their little stories and people hang off their every word...
I mean let's interview intelligent people who have something new and insightful to say about science or the environment.
I would only be interested in an autograph if it was at the bottom of a cheque.

For the record I would take looking at a waterfall over listening to a celebrity any day.

I don't get why we ask celebrities for their thoughts politically. Especially the younger ones.
Fame doesn't equal intelligence, or insight. And, if I'm 21 years old, rich, famous and living in Beverly Hills.. I could care less about government policy.

I don't get the flavour of memes that are being circulated around social media these days. There's a post with an intruging thumbnail of someone's face and an engaging caption usually starting "When...". Play the video, it's five seconds of that someone dancing, or pulling a funny face, with some quirky music in the background. None of the video's content is related to the "When..." caption. It's miniature clickbait. Every time I watch one the content creator gets like 15 cents so I'm probably doing some good to the world. Random examples: http://instagr.am/p/CgEevKGli58 http://instagr.am/p/CgHTgzJKvlv I suppose this is TikTok culture leaking over Instagram...but yeah. Don't get it. Is it supposed to be funny? Charming? Relatable? I'm just an old dude now. Times change. Memes change. 15 years ago I found this shit funny. I still do, actually. I giggled. And the generation above me would no doubt be feeling exactly the same way as I do when watching a TikTok video.

More people than not don’t change their beliefs based on facts. They change based on feelings. Art invokes feelings and empathy. And changes more minds than facts ever have. Stands to reason then that people would look to the purveyors of said art in an elevated fashion. That’s not so say I’m arguing we should listen celebrities over scientists and academics. I’m just talking human nature here. I would argue there multiple kinds of celebrity too. And I’ve known people who say they don’t think we should listen too celebrities who also believe every word kid rock or Gwynth Paltro say.

I like worshipped him as a wee lad getting into DJing because of him and learning how to make beats and shit. He was great when meeting him for a few seconds and he gave me a super rare hoodie. Then I spent a day with him when he was not "Moby" and he was a fucking miserable person to be around. Like no one wanted him around after a few hours and hoped he would leave. After that stopped caring out people just because they were famous. Met some awesome music people since, and some good wrestling people, but never like looked up to people the say way and assume people are people unless they prove otherwise. I have some signed stuff, but was shit that came signed, or people signed when I bought it from them. Never sought signatures. Or even pictures. Just meeting people and having the memory is cool for me, I do not need to prove it to anyone else.

This is not even opinion, it is fact in the psych of persuasion. Emotions are a primary persuader, logic a secondary persuader. People can change their minds based on facts and do all the time, but there is no urgency to it. As for celebrities, fans of the celebrities make an US group, so fans of the celebrities are more likely to be persuaded by them or members of that groups. It is Cialdini’s 7th pillar of persuasion, unity. Dude spent his life researching this shit and is the expert of expert in the area. Messages from the unity group get charged with emotion as there is a belonging feeling to the group, pushing their factual messages slightly from secondary to primary persuaders. Was my favorite area of psychology to study, particularly the memetic extension.

Maybe it's the metric system but I really hate (as an american) when people put a . instead of a , when they type large #s. Again maybe it's not incorrect but it always comes off very hard-r when I see it.
10,0000 CHECK 10.0000 WRONG
Even if it's "okay" it's still not.

Nothing worse than the only copy of said videos on YT are of react videos. So I can't even enjoy the real thing sometimes.
And more than anything those "react" videos show me how old I am. Zoomers talking about what I grew up with like it's forever ago. And yeah it was.

Girls on Twitch. Or the guys that will sit there for 4 hours watching a pixie play Fortnite. Buddy, if you wanna jerk off, go to Pornhub. And girls, if for a second you think anyone cares about your gaming, you'd be wrong. But you know that, hence the outfit.
