I really hope this is the year for him. I’d love for him to finish his career with a MVP award. Although, I’m sure he would take another Lombardi Trophy over MVP as would I. It’s just crazy that every time he’s had a MVP season, there was someone who put up historic numbers and won the award. He’s looked great in camp and on his lone drive in the preseason so I am optimistic but last year’s road felt so long and tough, I don’t know if they will be able to repeat it. They need to run the ball like 450 times and save that arm. Just let Brees pass in the RedZone to pad his stats.

Deshaun Watson is a good outside pick. With their schedule, Texans will need some shoot-out wins if they're going to the play-offs. May more closely resemble Watson's first season in that sense.

Thursday Night Football Prediction; Packers get the ball first and Aaron Rodgers marches them down the field and hits Davante Adams for a TD. The score stays at 7-0 at the end of 1. The 2nd quarter sees the Packers kick a FG and Trubisky hitting Anthony Miller for a TD in the final minute before half and the Packers lead 10-7 at halftime. The second half starts off slow, but a fumble by Aaron Jones is returned to the house by Khalil Mack. Aaron Rodgers is not going to have any of that and leads his team down the field and hits Davante with another TD. Packers lead 17-14 going into the 4th. The two teams exchange FGs and the Bears have the ball last. Trubisky rushes for a big 25 yard gain on 3rd and 10 and drives UT mad. They fail to get into the end zone and are forced to kick a FG to tie it up.... .... AND THEY MISS IT! Chicago goes apeshit and the Packers win 20-17.

Here's my QB list since it's always good for discussion - remember the classic Sam Bradford vs Tyrod Taylor argument from last preseason? I'm doing Week 1 starters in order of who I would like to have playing for my team this season - with no real eye on projected potential. 1. Patrick Mahomes 2. Aaron Rodgers 3. Russell Wilson 4. Drew Brees 5. Matt Ryan 6. Phil Rivers 7. Ben Roethlisberger 8. Tom Brady 9. Jared Goff 10. Deshaun Watson 11. Baker Mayfield 12. Carson Wentz 13. Cam Newton 14. Kirk Cousins 15. Dak Prescott 16. Sam Darnold 17. Mitch Trubisky 18. Jimmy Garoppolo 19. Lamar Jackson 20. Matt Stafford 21. Jameis Winston 22. Derek Carr 23. Nick Foles 24. Kyler Murray 25. Andy Dalton 26. Josh Allen 27. Marcus Mariota 28. Joe Flacco 29. Eli Manning 30. Jacoby Brissett 31. Ryan Fitzpatrick 32. Case Keenum All I got from this is that QB talent in the league really falls off a cliff somewhere around the 14th team. (Also had you flipped Foles and Cousins I really wouldn’t have argued)

Speaking of QBs; Jared Goff just got a ridiculously monstrous contract extension.
4 years, 134 MIL with an NFL RECORD 110 MIL guaranteed.
No wonder RBs hold out.

You're letting the Super Bowl cloud your judgement of Goff in a big way Kid. Getting beaten by Belichick doesn't take away the fact that he had a fantastic season with a stat line comparable to Brady's 2017 MVP campaign - despite losing his slot WR at halfway, and having Gurley limited down the stretch.
As has always been the case, this contract will only last as the biggest until the next QB to sign. Dak will now be looking for more money than this - and I know who I'd rather have.

I’d rather have neither to be honest.
I’m of the crowd that thinks Goff is a system QB and he isn’t even that good. Kupp always got himself open. Same with Cooks Woods is great too. I don’t think Goff “made them”, I think McVay got them in the perfect system.
Not a fan of his.

Honestly I'm still not that convinced about Goff so I agree with Kid about his contract. Goff is a product of the pieces around him. I don't see him succeeding with a mediocre cast the way Rodgers and Brady have done in the past. To me a QB that gets that amount of money should be worth at least 8 wins just by being on the field.

The system QB argument is pretty dumb. Good teams get good players who win games and keep them together to continue winning games. Goff won't need to succeed with a mediocre cast because they have their core locked up. No one was talking about Robert Woods being a "piece" when he was a 500 yard receiver in Buffalo.
Goff literally has the best statistical game a QB has ever played. The ball didn't magically get to his receivers for 465 yards and 5 touchdowns.

So the Chargers brass sounds like a bunch of douches.
They wont pay Melvin Gordon and an unknown team inquired about a trade but were told they want a 1st round pick AND a 5th round pick for MG.
So he's not worth the money, but he's worth all that for a trade?
Dudes being held hostage and thats bad business.

Only thing Gordon can really do at this point is play out his contract and then tell San Diego to go fuck themselves. This is why the Chargers will never win because they are complete douche bags when it comes to their players. A literal pro-bowl game could be formed out of the people that have left them.

Honestly, from a business stand point; I don't think Melvin deserves more then the 10-11 MIL they're offering him. The place they play in isn't even filled with Chargers fans. It's like away games all the time. From a business stand point, it doesn't make sense for them to give MG what he wants. BUT, to expect a 1st and a 5th back for him is hilarious. It makes me want to say, "Who the hell do these guys think they are?!" Lol.

The Goff extension is what it is , you aren't going to just build what they have in LA and watch him walk away. Similar to the Flacco argument a few years ago , only Goff is actually good and I agree with most of what HR has said defending him.

Yeah and we see what paying for a lucky ring got Baltimore in the end. It's just a dumb argument that you should pay a guy who got hot for three games despite being crappy for 90% of his career over paying a guy who goes out and does it every game and comes up short , in his third year to the greatest gameplanner of all time in Belichek.
Imagine making that argument for Dilfer over Peyton Manning who constantly came up short in big games until he finally didn't. Peyton Manning who was also in an amazing offensive system with Tom Moore and surrounding by studs and 1st round picks. It's the same fucking thing.

Yeah, but you can't take that away from Flacco or Dilfer.
Jared Goff may never reach the Super Bowl, let alone win one. I don't think he's a game changer who deserves the (at the moment) richest QB deal ever. Just like I didn't think Kirk Cousins deserved it either.

So you'd take Trent Dilfer circa 2000 over Peyton Manning? That's weird.
Also it's not about deserves when it comes to these contracts , it's the price you are going to pay to build something. No Goff isn't the best quarterback in the NFL , but the NFL and quarterback contracts don't work in terms of the best getting the most money - it's just the next guy up cycle and if you want to build something long term you don't have a choice. Goff has proven he is a good quarterback in a great system and that he and McVay SHOULD be together for the next decade ala Brees/Payton. You aren't going to let semantics get in the way of that , it would just be silly. The alternative would be for the Rams to start back at square one at quarterback and hope they find another QB that fits their system like Goff and that's one of the toughest things to do in the NFL.

Also you can't take anything away from the Flacco and Dilfer's for their runs , but that shit gets brought up without context so often. Just because the endgame resulted in a ring doesn't mean they were ever long term good quarterbacks or difference makers.
