Kill Bill volume 1 is a gold standard action movie in my opinion, while volume 2 slows down drastically, practically the antithesis of the first (first was focused on action with story coming second, second focused on story with action coming second), the first just nails every aspect. Perfectly paced, outstanding score, amazing action, phenomenal opening, great cliffhanger. Endlessly rewatchable for me.
My 3rd rated QT film, #5 for the list.

This is the only Tarantino film that I do not absolutely love. It did not make my list.
Kill Bill was my #6, which I thought would be relatively low. I am surprised it only placed #8. That’s the only movie from my list to place so far.

Inglorious Bastards is an amazing film.
I fucking love it. Wish it would’ve cracked Top 5. Had this at #2.

Why do people hate Kill Bill? People have bad taste. Kill Bill Vol.1 was my number 3. It has the edge over vol.2 due to it's outstanding action and I like the kung-fu/anime mash-up slightly better than the spaghetti western approach. Raising Arizona was at the bottom of my list (I have only seen 9 films between them.) Nicolas Cage was great in his break-out role and we get to see an early example of the Coen's quirky sense of humour. Inglorious Basterds was my number 8. It's a great story but can seem to be a bit bloated in spots and could use an editor. Great performances though from Brad Pitt, Diane Kruger and Christoph Waltz.

I'm embarrassed how low I had this on my list. I've only seen it once, recall really digging it, but then it's been SOOO long since I've seen it, I think I've forgotten how much I did dig it. Six overall feels right though.

I've railed against Fargo in the past , and I get why I did but truth be told , I watched it again on a lazy Sunday a few weeks back and I'm starting to come around on it a bit more. As usual with The Coens it's not so much of a story based movie as it is everything else and once you watch it for the first time and realize that the subsequent viewings allow you to focus on all the other brilliant parts of the movie and the characters that are so much fun. I still wouldn't call it one of my favorites , or even near the top (it made #6 on my list too) but I do respect it a ton more.

Have either of you seen the show, UT / 🤯 ? Usually shows are far worse than the movies they are based on, but that is clearly not the case when the Coens are involved. They wanted to redo what they did in the movie but have a chance to do it better and they succeeded by a huge margin in every area. If the movie isn't one of your favorites still, I suspect the show could be. It is certainly one of mine. Both main characters, played by Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton, are just perfectly cast so much so that I thought these were their real personalities. Thornton managed to creep the fuck out of me in every single scene he was in and Freeman's character personifies this poster in his house: While this is a sentiment I usually agree with, he was so true to it that it even offended my sensibilities repeatedly. This wasn't just one of the best TV shows I've ever seen, it was so epic and cool that I still think about it often years later and quote the lines, as does my wife. And it's only ten episodes long (for the first season, I've still not watched the second or third but need to get around to it. Each season is a completely different story with different characters/actors though, so there's no way they are topping season one) so that's saying a lot for it to stick in your memory for that long. It focuses much more on the plot and the tension that results from it than the movie and the atmosphere is just so perfect to draw you in. From what I recall, the movie poses itself as a comedy blatantly and can get overbearing, but this one is 100% thriller that is funny solely due to the situation which is a style I like much more. It's very much like the film The Game in that regard.
I loved Freeman in Sherlock and The Hobbit, so seeing him in a role even better than both of those was great. I didn't know Billy Bob Thornton until watching this show, but I have followed him ever since and watched all of his stuff (the show Goliath he stars in is also fantastic). Anyway, if you like either of these actors then that is more reason you will like this show. I wouldn't worry about overlapping with the movie either as the stories are much different. I don't think Thornton's character is even in the movie?
Anyway, sorry to rant but I really like the show. If you're not hooked by the first episode, I'll be pretty surprised, because it's amazing right from the start.

First post in this thread so allow me to indulge in some movies we've stopped discussing.
Miller's Crossing is a masterpiece. The opening scene is a bit confusing at first, but in retrospect it's a great way to set the scene. And you never suspect the quiet, unassuming chap standing in the background is the protagonist and driving force behind most of the film's events. It's a great plot that isn't overly convoluted and I didn't have to much trouble following the story. Great modern noir.
I really like many parts of Inglorious Basterds, but whoever says the film needed editing and trimming down is right. In fact, this seems to be a recurring issue with Tarantino's recent output. Nevertheless, it's a compelling and unusual take on Nazi Germany, with a career defining performance from Christoph Waltz.

The Coens have nothing to do with the show short of giving their blessing and having their movie serve as inspiration. None of the characters are from the movie, though there are plenty of Easter eggs in there.

They were both executive producers in the credits so I assumed they were heavily involved. I guess producers don't actually need to do anything.
Well, in any case, it's still better!

Producer role is so broad and vague. Can be as little as a shout out. Could be as much as securing funding and procuring all other needed shit. Haven't seen the TV show, but interested in checking it out. Have heard good things.

The characters way better than the story they’re telling though. Also Fargo was my number two. The only Coen Brothers movie I love (though I recently rewatched a film yet to be named and enjoyed it too)

There are Coen movies I love and Coen movies I simply do not get. Fargo falls into latter camp. Overrated IMO.

Hey look it's one of the two Tarantino movies I really like , it's #2 on that short list but it's still a great movie that I found entertaining beginning to end. The cast and acting is magnificent from Foxx to Leo to Waltz and all the way on down and there are ton of great scenes and incredibly engaging dialogue. It does tend to fall into the QT trap of going way too long and that's prevented me from going back to it often but overall for MY money it's one of Quentins best efforts and best all around movies.

Even though it takes place in the south, Django Unchained has every element of a great Western. QT is a huge fan of Sergio Leone and it clearly shows.

HOW MANY HAVE YOU SEEN
He doesn’t have that many movies and liking two of them seems odd since I thought you hated him. The ratio of likery must not be that bad unless you’ve seen ALL OF THEM or something.

I haven't seen a few , but I've seen enough. My problem with QT hasn't always been just his movies , I don't love them but I get it and see the appeal - my problem with QT has always been his annoying pissant fans who think if you don't worship QT you don't love or know movies or something. Especially in regards to his most famous movie. It's an overcorrection on my part to his pissant fans to just trash him more harshly than he probably deserves.

Oh, well in that case, I 100% agree. It was even worse being at a film school for college. That poster was on every single dorm wall. People heralded it like the second coming of Christ. Pulp Fiction isn't even his best movie. And as much as I like Tarantino, he's not even close to being the greatest filmmaker of all time. He just happens to be one of the top good modern American directors. I'd actually say that the Coens are better directors technically, but I tend to like Tarantino movies more just because they are more flashy which is more to my taste. Anyway, carry on.
